  1. Hold it against him over other stuff? No. Hold it against him? Sure. They don't all indifferently walk off the field in the first inning of their final game to preserve a statistical anomaly in order to better market himself to other teams. They just don't. Some do. Others don't. And it's a worthwhile distinction which are which.
  2. batmagadanleadoff wrote: Tommie Agee in an airbrushed and logoless White Sox uniform even though he was an everyday playing Met in 1968 and slated to play everyday going into the '69 season. Even overlapping the autograph with the team name comes off as pretty bush.
  3. "I dont think Im a major league ... let me rephrase that. I think Im much better at first base than I am in the outfield. Im a big guy. Im slow. You can just tell by looking at me -- Im a first baseman." --- Lucas Duda, trying to be a little self-deprecating, and nearly putting his enormous head in a noose.
  4. Hamilton Bennett on his way to Vegas to save the 51 ship.
  5. TheOldMole wrote: He wasn't the first player to take himself out of a game to preserve a batting title. In fact, at one time - 1941 - the big news was a player NOT doing that, when it was assumed he would. That wasn't a batting title, but a .400 average on the line. I can't speak to exactly how common it was then vs. now. I'm not sure it should matter when judging how much we like it.
  6. Pops to Bixler but the runner tags and the Bees score the winning run. Horrid game for Bixler. Pena puts the tag down but he's safe. The 51s are arguing but Andy Marte is still down at the plate and in pain after scoring the winning run. Game three tomorrow night at Cashman Field. Somber mood for the winning team and their fans as Marte is writhing.
  7. Winning run at third and one out. Carson has a 2-2 count on Cousins.
  8. Brandon Hicks, who is just having a miserable Chin-lung Hu of a game, strikes out with the go-ahead run at third.
  9. Pena doubles home Hoffman to tie the game. Wally BAckman is a genius! WALLY BACKMAN FOR MANAGER!!!
  10. Time out called. Looks like Francisco Pena, who was coaching first, will be batting for Centeno, despite Pena being a righty aganist the righty and Centeno being a lefty.
  11. Two-hopper to short and they're down to their final out with Jamie Hoffman at the plate. Hoffman singles to right on the first pitch! Centeno up.
  12. Top of the ninth, need a run to tie, and Sandoval leads off by going down looking. Lawley at the plateley.
  13. Wicked Local Beverly loves the Rocket. It’s like playing baseball on the moon. It’s crazy; the ball absolutely flies, so when you pitch, you can’t go out there scared. You can’t go out there thinking about the worst that could happen; whatever happens, happens, and you have to not dwell on it.”
  14. Base hit scores a run as Bixler (what's he doing in center?) throws it in too late. Play break open on an errant throw, but the trailing runner gets nailed on the plate. Down 4-3 in the bottom of the eighth. Rob Carson coming in to face Matt Long.
  15. Wish I coulda tricked it out with HTML.
  16. First and second and one out in the bottom of the eighth, and Wally Backman calling Greg Burke's name.
  17. The GCL Mets finished 30 games behind them --- in a 60-game season. They were 28-2 at home! We were almost dead even with Houston until I got to the Gulf Coast League.
  18. So... runners on first and second with one out. Campbell grounds to short and Salt Lake goes for the DP. Campbell is hustling down the line and beats the relay, but... THE RUNNER ON SECOND IS TRYING TO PULL A MOOKIE AND SCORE FROM SECOND! AND HE'S... ...out. That runner... Ruben Tejada.
  19. Top of the eighth and the Chevy Vegas have two on with one out. Eric Campbell is at the plate and Salt Lake brings in... Chad Cordero? Really?
  20. Church pitches and fields himself out of trouble in the seventh. Team can't get Andy Marte out. Also, Centeno somehow has two stolen bases, but both for naught.
  21. There's probably half a dozen errors in here, but it looks like the Mets end up finishing with an overall record that trailed only the Astro, Giant, and Nat organizations. Some philosophical ambiguity exists in the standings, as the wide divergence in the total number of games played leaves some teams behind others in the GB column despite having a slightly better winning percentage. I left out the DSL and VSL because too many teams stock multiple squads, and would have a much better record if they had only one team. 22. John Church comes on and dominates for his inning. Vamos a la siete.
  23. Advertisment for a Vegas musical stage show called Rock of Ages featuring the worst rawk songs of the 80s.
  24. Big difference in this game was a run-scoring error by Tejada.
  25. Montero yields a drive to the centerfield fence that Nieuwenhuis is able to run down. Next batter pulls it to left and the game is tied. Montero heading to the showers.
