  1. What a disastrous play. Pollock does a bad read on the fly, and Young does a terrible read on Pollock.
  2. Mets givng up their share of deep flies.
  3. Gary sounds better after that Laggy double.
  4. The guy smashed his forearm and elbow. Why do you check if he's alright by making him do a few dashes? Give him a ball and see if he can throw.
  5. Well, I'm not really advocating --- or retro-advocating ---- but I wasn't really thinking of the end of last season, so much as well into the off-season, when they had put their money on Granderson and Young2.
  6. Yeah, that's the way you rehab. I'm kinda hoping he's in the lineup tonight. I was a little surprised the Mets didn't elect to trade high on EY. I think the team loves his habits hustle and intangibles, but his skill set is quite distinct from what they Mets are reportedly looking for.
  7. Brilliant. Now you.
  8. Playing short and keeping Didi Gregorious on the Mets shopping list is Chris Owings. Owings is pretty green, having appeared in only 20 games last season, during which he OPS'd at .742. That's encouraging, but 20 games is 20 games. He hit well in the minors, with good power for a shortstop, but hasn't yet homered in his 108 plate appearances thus far. Only one extra-base hit this season, in fact. He's a South Carolinian, 23 years old. He's credited more frequently with good instincts than a host defensive skills. Some scouts saw him bound for secondbase, but obviously the D-Backs like him at short. Really good at doing the funny Justin-Bieber-babyfaced-badass look: Oh, shit. See how his face is half in shadow? That means I'm going to get my ass kicked!
  9. September 20, 1973.
  10. Blake Forsythe, catcher, B-Met, third-round pick from 2010, and heir apparent of the famous Forsythe fortune, has been dealt to the Oakland A's for FuCos. Not a typical situation when a minor leaguer gets dealt with out big league talent coming back, and one imagines there are all sorts of mind games going on when the Mets deal with the A's. Forsythe was looked to as a power bat coming out of college, but whatever diminished power he has been able to muster as a pro as been offset by low batting averages, and he in fact hit .192 / .271 / .362 // .633 in 2013.
  11. Oops
  12. More dudes who look more like weekend warriors than professional ballplayers: Alomar, of course, was a world-class athlete, if not so much anymore by the time he got to Phoenix, but I include him because of the horrible lighting and comically amateurish condition of the field beneath him.
  13. "The problem with Wockenfuss getting on base..."
  14. In our tour documentaries about the record making bidness, our next selection is Dave Grohl's history of Sound City, the LA dump of an analog studio that took rock from mid-period classic (their first album was the Buckingham/Nicks duet that precipitated them joining Fleetwood Mac, followed by Rumours and TP&tHBs' Damn the Torpedoes) through pop nu wave (Rick Springfield), a little punk (Fear), lotsa eighties glam (Ratt, Warrant), until finally their failure to modernize and go digital had them on the verge of going out of business, when a grunge band at a crossroads landed on their doorstep, recorded an album called Nevermind, and the lack of computer processing and sequencers became a virtue for all the acts that followed in Nirvana's wake. Featuring, among many others: Vinny Appice, Frank Black, Lindsey Buckingham, Mike Campbell, Kevin Cronin, Mick Fleetwood, John Fogerty, Dave Grohl, Jim Keltner, Barry Manilow, Stevie Nicks, Rick Nielsen, Krist Novoselic, Tom Petty, Trent Reznor, Rick Rubin, Pat Smear, Rick Springfield, Benmont Tench, Lars Ulrich, and Butch Vig.
  15. This was the Free Game of the Day at mlb.tv. Thanks, fuckos.
  16. I'm done. See if you can root this one home for me.
  17. Bazon Ballz. Down to Laggy.
  18. German looking like a man lining up to be the team's next closer.
  19. Maybe it's a byproduct of nobody being on base, but Recker doesn't seem highly effective at blocking pitches in the dirt.
  20. And Zimmy was a big problem before that ill-fated slide.
  21. But he's hitting down there.
  22. Frayed Knot wrote: Can't be walking Aybar there. Hell, groove three to him, the most he's going to do is hit a double and, even if he does, you're no worse off facing Ibanez they you are with the walk. Yeah, it's like that.
  23. I got thingz to do in the morning, Jose.
