If you are an otherwise baseball-indifferent young adult that went to college during the aughts, "like"-ing the Sox means fondly recalling those celebratory nights at the Farthingminster Canteen and SWEEET CAROLINE DUH! DUH! DUH! OMIGODILUVYOUGUYS!! perhaps more than it means a deep-seated devotion to all things Rico Petrocelli.
  2. Vegas sporting six guys with OBPs over .400, and that's not counting Chris Young and Bobby Abreu, who were just passing through. Chris Young: .714 Allan Dykstra: .561 Kai Gronauer: .500 Bobby Abreu: .489 Anthony Seratelli: .444 Zach Lutz: .440 Eric Campbell: .430 Juan Centeno: .417 Taylor Teagarden is reaching at only a .350 rate, but he's slugging .583. Must be fun for Wally to fill out the lineup card these days.
  3. Because. Because he's been a disaster up there and if there's any time to isolate whether there's an advantage to batting the pitcher eighth instead of ninth, that may be the time.
  4. You know, Colonial days may be the days to experiment with the whole pitcher-batting-eighth thing.
  5. It implies a cheating intent. I think umps get leeway here.
  6. A night in the wind and cold, and our list, sadly, is expanding faster than it is contracting. Travis d'Arnaud, continues to get mostly good swings in there and went 1-3 with a walk. IMPROVING. Josh Satin, like the rest of Mets bench, spent the whole cold night stuck on that bench. UNCHANGED. Curtis Granderson, while the rest of the Mets were toppling like dominoes in the first three innings, actually scratched out a hit his first time up. It was his only knock, but he also had a walk and a solid overall game. IMPROVING. Bobby Abreu sat and joked with Colon all night, it looked like. UNCHANGED. But wait, there's more!! In going 0-3 (with a blessed walk), Kirk Nieuwenhuis has joined a club he surely wants no part of, with his average dropping to .188! Get off that road, Kirk! =#FF0000]DECLINING. Ruben Tejada, who collapborated with Nieuwenhuis on the play of the game, also aped his batting line (1-3, with a [critical go-ahead-RBI] walk), and has dropped to .193. You guys need to collaborate on batting practice, too! =#FF0000]DECLINING. =#0000FF].190=#0000FF].185=#0000FF].133=#0000FF].125=#0000FF].000=#0000FF].188=#0000FF].193Needs a 1-1, a 1-2, a 2-3, a 2-4, or a 2-5 in his next game to escape the interstate. Three, four, or five hits would work too.Needs to be re-promoted in order to rescue his stat line from shame. . . . . .Needs a 2-2, a 2-3, a 2-4, or 2-5 or better. Basically, two hits deliver him. . . . .We need a 7-7 here, man. . . . . . . . .Basically, one hit liberates Bobby. . . . . . . .A 1-4 or better, and you and I got no problems. . . . . . . .A 1-4 game leaves him just short, but anything better than that works. Ruben's also been walking like an Egyptian, so there's that. I can say no more.
  7. I have to believe the benefits have outweighed the bumps overwhelmingly so far.

But outliers are where the fun is. Anyhow, it's a good time to hold onto your stock.
  9. Ruben had about as solid an 0-3-with-a-first-inning-defensive-vapor-lock game as a guy could have. I got on board in the second. My wife wanted to see Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
  10. TheOldMole wrote: I have a problem with 3. I think it's OK for players to be quirky, uncouth and weird. If that rule were in effect, Dennis Rodman would never be able to play for the Mets. Good point. We're getting killed on the offensive glass.
  11. Worth noting as well: Yankees lost the game to the last-place Red Sox.
  12. Weird, isn't it? I just thought it might be a good parking spot for empty-calorie Harvey celebrity stories during the season.
  13. Ruben had just about as solid an 0-3 game as a guy could have.
  14. Farnie thinks he's Turk Wendell out there.
  15. Handy Grandy!
  16. Nice Bazooka Joe reference from Gary.
  17. Well, I guess not signing Peralta was a good idea.
  18. Not used to saying this, but great at-bat there by Granderson
  19. Is he just so dependent on the stuff that the idea of laying off of it until the heat cleared wasn't an option?
  20. All those years I was reading on the back of Topps cards about Stu Miller being blown off the mound, I never thought I'd see it myself.
  21. Curtis opens by laying off that same curve he's been chasing all year.
  22. Smoly crap. Five walks and ten strikeouts.
  23. Enjoying them grinding it out against Wacha here.
  24. Yeah, you choose that chart, you're going to, by definition, get players who were cooked by the time they reached the age of the player their being compared to. Much healthier to choose the chart next to it, listing the players who are most similar through their current age.
