  1. Something there is that doesn't love a wall, That sends the frozen-ground-swell under it, And spills the upper boulders in the sun; And makes gaps even two can pass abreast.
  2. I mainly don't like the railing fence right on top of the wall on the Party City Deck. It allows an outfielder to reach above the wall, but not over and behind it. So I'd like to see the wall brought in two or three feet. (I imagine the railing fence can't really be pushed back without eliminating seats, but perhaps.)
  3. That game report also includes this delicious line: It was the last time a Yankee would reach third base.
  4. Interviewer: That must've been embarrassing. Jeter: Oh, sure. I'm just glad it happened on the road. It would have been really mortifying in front of the home crowd. Interviewer: Derek, it did happen at home? Jeter: Wait... seriously? Oh, check it out. White uniform. Damn.

  6. That's pretty awesome. metsguyinmichigan wrote: Howard might write: Mets would have scored 14 runs and won all five games had ownership not run out of money and traded Ike Davis to save cash. HowardMightWrite would be a good thread title/hashtag/website/internet sensation.
  7. The chance of being correct is unlikely enough as it is. MCC predicts the next Met to be Giancarlo Alvarado. Get to know Giancarlo!
  8. Yoops. Met 1K.
  9. Hi, we're the Cubs, losers of 4 of the last 10 and not getting a whole lot of respect. When they lose, they get spanked: 9-0 to the Brews and 11-1 to Pads are two recent scores. Whoever said champs are the teams that win the close ones didn't know what he was talking about. Champs squish teams like the Cubs. The Cubs are celebrating the 100th anniversary of Wrigley Field, so look for some ceremonial oddities, and maybe some throwback unis. Between obsessing over a high draft pick, celebrating a century of a baseball cathedral, and saluting Derek Jeter, there's a lot folks have to distract them from the uneven play of their club. HOW DARE A TEAM PROMOTE THEMSELVES! Anyhow, Wellignton Castillo, besides being a Spanish Citadel that fell to Britain in the Penisular War of the early 1800s (and who weren't they fighting then?) is also the Cubby catcher. Wellignton will give you the sort of catcherly numbers that a Cub team deserves. Enough power to tempt you into thinking there's more, but a lowish batting average and an even more disconcerting OBP. He's sort of been the Cubs catcher of the future forever, but catchers come along when they come along. Ask Todd Hundley. Anyhow, this guy won't kill you, but he can run into a pitch. Welly is coming off a tough lousy May, that has seen him get some rest. He wears a chinstrap beard and hails from the Dominican. Has a big head. Hey, who's that at first? Open your ears, jackass!

  12. In light of the two weekend promotions, Met Count Central is now projecting Bronx-born Binghamton righthander Jonathan Velasquez as the future [crossout:38q964rv]Met2K[/crossout:38q964rv] Met1K. Jonathan is currently 3-2 with a 3.52 in 23 innings over 19 games for the B-Mets. He has struck out 22 and walked only four, for a 0.91 WHIP that'll play anywhere. Some solid Seaveriffic drop-and-drive form on the hill, too. [fimg=700:38q964rv]http://www.collectthemets.com/posts/20140518-BMets-Velasquez2.jpg[/fimg:38q964rv]
  13. Frayed Knot wrote: 4 out of 5 sounds (and is) a helluva lot better than 3 out of 5. Will stay ahead of Philly no matter what, can catch Washington with a win tonight. Two dang games better in the standings, relative to the opponent, that's how much better. They had a five-game sweep within reach too, but best not to get too greedy, as the Phils had two of those Met wins within easy reach too. Anybody want to speculate where this falls among the top wins on the season? Colon getting some momentum. den Dekker showing his game in all its glory. Flores untracked. A lot to build on. Even the two walks by d'Arnaud are good for something.
  14. Adds another fine play.
  15. Oh, sweet, we're gonna get Colon with the sacks juiced.
  16. Flores lets the juciest pitch of the game go by for strike two and then serves a pitch off the plate into right for a two-run double.
  17. Funny thing Stairs admitted yesterday. He hated pinch hitting. It's not just that he preferred starting (who wouldn't?) but he couldn't handle sitting on the bench all game worrying that his only trip to the plate would be with the game on the line. Makes perfect sense, but who admits that?
  18. So the Phillies broadcast just showed a heartwarming gesture by Bobby Abreu presenting a fan with a bat, leading to a huge celebration from the fan and the section. The booth didn't say it but the fan was apparently mentally handicapped, and as they're talking about how heartwarming it was to see the young man so delighted, the young man starts expresses his excitement by repeatedly pointing to his crotch. Abreu walks and asks how you like his sample size now!
  19. That's the fruit of the Mets philosophical regime right there.
  20. Close. He was singing the praises of northern birch. den Dekker is having a day.
  21. Phillies announcers wondering out loud if bats are still made of ash, and scratching their heads for an answer. "They were popular for a time..." Yeah, for a time starting with the dawn of time. Matt Stairs doesn't know if bats are still made of ash?
  22. I've seen enough overshifting to last me for a long while.
  23. I figure I'd get my knees all cut up by those coat-hooks 20 inches off the ground.
  24. Authentic or bogus? Steiner offering locker said to belong to Keith Hernandez and Pedro Feliciano on e-bay. [fimg=700]http://www.steinersports.com/steiner-images/skus/HERNLOU000000_zoom_IMAGE1_215220.JPG[/fimg] Isn't locker position assigned by status? How did Feliciano get the juice to park his ass in Keith Hernandez's locker, but not, I dunno, Edddie Murray, Edgardo Alfonso, Robin Ventura, or somebody? Any how, $2,500 to smell the butt stains.
  25. Rollins taking a powder (or possibly traded to Mets, I don't know). [*:36zkpma4]Revere, cf[/*:m:36zkpma4] [*:36zkpma4]C.
