  1. Oh dear, he represents, like, 50% of their assets at this point.
  2. Y'all need to get on board. The future is now and we've got Superman in center and he doesn't need you doubts.

  4. Looking just a full-season teams: Top Squad: Savannah Sand Gnatss (BOS), 59-27, .686 Wantingest Squad: Rome Braves (ATL), 29-62, .319 Top Mets-Affiliated Squad: Savannah Sand Gnats, 59-27, .686 Wantingest Mets-Affiliated Squad: Las Vegas 51s, 54-39, .581 An interesting thing is that things get better with the Mets as you go deeper --- until you get to the short season leagues, anyway. New York Mets: .462 winning percentage. Las Vegas 51s: .581 winning percentage. Binghamton Mets: .584 winning percentage. St. Lucie Mets: .612 winning percentage. Savannah Sand Gnats: .686 winning percentage. Brooklyn Cyclones: .560 winning percentage. Kingsport Mets: .450 winning percentage. =#4000FF]Gulf Coast Mets: .600 winning percentage. It's cool, though I'd like to turn that on it's ear and give the .462 to Savannah and the .686 to the big club.
  5. Rubin reporting Contorto deal is complete pending a physical.
  6. Leaks, breaking out all over, that AJ was broadly ill-regarded as a human by teammates and management.
  7. Does Travis get all four starts in the series or do we get a'Nthony for this one?
  8. Well, if you're not gonna play, you damn well better be on the DL. If you get selected, but your team is all... sorry, man, he just pitched the day before the break... well, he forfeits his right to be called an All Star in my book. Man up and throw an inning.

  10. Yeah, but, why would they delay him a full trip through the rotation to keep him out of one-ish inning of the All Star Game? That doesn't add up.
  11. And, since the system seemingly couldn't accept all that ezcoding in one post, here's the bottom 10. 12. Current organization-wide minor league standings below. Numbers could be off a tick or two, as I began counting yesterday afternoon, and finished late yesterday evening, after many game results would have been filed, but it sez what it sez. You've got to figure that all those repetitions he missed by being out the latter half of 2012 and the early part of 2013 stunted his progress a bit. Probably reading too much into it, but he certainly seems engaged and on top of his game more. On those two Heyward stolen bases, instead of him making that "I hope that doesn't cost us" face, it was more of a "It's on me to draw a line here" face.
  14. Keep it going there. Doing my best to help the Orioles come back against Nats..
  15. I'm heading out to the ballyard tonight to root Bud Norris and O's to VICTOIRE! over Doug Fister and his villainous Nats teammates. I'm counting on you all to carry this one without me.
  16. I agree. But, alternatively, the Mets also have mostly laid in with short-term free agents while they establish younger players, like Boston. So either the Sox have had better judgment, more luck, or more margin for error in their budget (likely all three), but it's not like the Mets have a completely different philosophy.
  17. Frayed Knot wrote: - have your fourth choice for closer turn lights-out for a half-season? ... Check! Guess which Flushing-based team is on their fourth closer. Ka-CHING!
  18. And just like that --- I mean just... like... that... --- I mention @whitesoxdiaries, and word comes over the wire that the Mets have released Hamilton Bennett. That chick has some frightening power.
  19. AJ Pierzynski is now DFAJ Pierzynski, because it looks like Boston is moving on. Bracing for a Twitter explosion from Super Groupie @WhiteSoxDiaries (who, by the way, is expecting twins --- and I don't mean the Minnesota kind).
  20. When I see a young guy competing with an older guy, I mentally tell him, "I have options on you, so you better damn well defeat your elder outright if you want his job." It's not like the Mets haven't demonstrated a happy willingness to shed Valverde and Farniefarn when that day comes. But earn it, Gonzo.
  21. Thirteen-year-old UMDB memory. The Mets were 27-21 and Tom Veryzer was hitting .333 on June 1, 1982. On that day Veryzer injured his leg and was lost for the season. The Mets record for the rest of the year was 38-76. Coincidence? I think not. Wow.
  22. A real look of the times. Kind of a grownup Kelly Leake. Looks like a guy who drove a gold Nova and was all lean-in jumpers and elbow-fueled rebounds on the basketball court, before cracking a Bud and lighting up a Winston during the break.
  23. He was apparently more than adequate for a while there. Replaced the chronically injured Ron Gardenhire (who would nonetheless get protected over Tom Seaver) and was hitting the ball hard, until Claudell Washington took issue with his leg.
  24. Mets deserve their own thread. Tom, the #11 overall pick in the 1971 draft (by Detroit) joined 1980/1987 Met Bill Almon (1974's #1 overall by San Diego) in the line of Bobby Valentine (#5 overall, 1968) --- former bonus babies with generally disappointing careers washing ashore in Flushing as adequate Met utility infielders.
