Cedric Mullins has suddenly replaced Taylor in bench limbo.

We have a broadcast. They just replayed the Asdrubal Cabrera walkoff homer. I remember him wearing bleached hair at the time, but was surprised to see Jerry Blevins rocking it also.

Losing your top starter and your next guy (who has been matching your ace pitch for pitch all year) getting taken to the cleaners when it is his time to step up can be pretty demoralizing. The Mets just need to keep on the Phils while they are on their heels.

And the other guys are going with the all-glove centerfielder batting seventh also. Trea Turner ® SS Kyle Schwarber (L) DH Bryce Harper (L) 1B J.T. Realmuto ® C Alec Bohm ® 3B Nick Castellanos ® RF Harrison Bader ® CF Edmundo Sosa ® 2B Weston Wilson ® LF Man, I remember staying with my friends at The Weston Wilson on our road trips Philadelphia. Good times.

That pickoff-turned-error was a real change of fortune they never looked back from. The sun shines more brightly when Juan Soto hustles.

If you are going to claim "Great minds think alike. You're not one of us." is somehow not directed at people reading your posts, but at people who will never read your posts, I do not know what to say. If you are going to claim "I would like to see some late game winning rallies for a change. You wouldn't?" is an honest question that I should take seriously, but somehow not read any contempt into it, I do not know what to say. I will just open my parachute and drop out of this thread.

Of course you have. You have THREE (now FOUR) sig lines at a time and frequently include one or two (two at the current time) which derides fellow posters as unintelligent. Why? I don't know. Pretending that "I would like to see some late game winning rallies for a change. You wouldn't?" is a serious question is just not honest. Of course it isn't.

No, it would be nice, but I would like to see some late game winning rallies for a change. You wouldn't? Later Of course not. Please don't ask me stupid questions. I just don't agree that I am spoiled because of something that happened 40 years ago. And they have had some late game winning rallies. They haven't won after trailing after eight. But they have won after being tied through eight. They have won after being down in the eighth, rallying then, and taking a lead. They have won after rallying to tie in the eighth, and then taking the lead or walking off in the ninth or later. And then there is the seventh. And the sixth. A late rally is not exclusively a rally that occurs after trailing after eight. And if we do not get what we want, then we don't. The idea that anybody has been "spoiled" and somehow maintained unreasonable expectations hasn't haven't gotten more realistic about despite four decades of reality may apply to somebody, but not myself or anybody I have met. And it is disingenuous to suggest this is about what "I would like to see." Who wouldn't? That is very different from being spoiled.

You have been expecting the performance of 1986 to repeat itself every year for 40 years?

When a starter would falter in the middle innings, he would be brought in with men on base to end the threat before the team (hopefully) started to build a bridge to Edwin Díaz. He had been failing in this role of late, and along with the middle-inning falterings that precipitated his entrances, he has had as much to do with recent struggles as anyone on the staff. José Castillo has given the team good innings in both the majors and minors. It will be interesting to see if he gets a similar role or it goes to one of the others. It would be nice to get starters through the sixth consistently enough to not need such a role. I am very much not spoiled.

I like to think they took something off Senga's back. Liking to think that doesn't make it true, of course. But the day he hit the IL — June 13 — was the day the Mets started a streak of eight losses in a row, 11 in 12 games, 15 in 18 games, etc. It put him in the position of being the key Met that had to return to change their fortune, and when he returned, he got hurt again, covering first, and he has tried to tough through it and hasn't found himself since that second injury. Now, getting picked up big time, the Mets send him the message that he can do what he has to do to get right, and they can pick him up until then. Or not, but they picked up Soto, Alonso, and Lindor pretty nicely as well. Also, in addition to seeing the super-slumps of Taylor and Torrens cracking, very surprising news coming out today about Álvarez taking BP.

José Castillo's first win since Crazy Rich Asians was on the big screen. The last time Castillo won, JD Vance was describing himself as "a Never Trump guy."

Lindor up! Five RBI for Torrens!!

One more batter needs to reach to get Lindor up.

The main thing that is left for tonight is to get Lindor into the hit column.

The 2025 Mets are 61–2 (.968) when leading after eight innings. The two losses were: April 25 against Washington, when the Mets rallied down from three nothing with four runs in the eighth. Ryne Stanek was sent out to protect the one-run lead, and gave up a triple and a single to tie the game. After a groundout, AJ Minter was brought in and yielded a game-winninghit to James Wood.June 3 against the Dodgers in LA, as Huascar Brazobán came in with a one-run lead gave up a game-tying homer to the first batter (Max Muncy) on a 1-2 pitch. José Butto came in for the 10th and Freddy Freeman drove in the magic runner with a one-out double. The Mets have blown some leads of late, but they have tended to be in the middle innings.

I was just thinking that the Mets have done all of this without the longball. I just checked the scoreboard, and not only did the Mets just go up 10-3, but the Phillies just fell behind by the same amount.

It has been all Mets since Micgate, though. Micgate is the new Grimace!

McNeil does not need to be bunting. He can advance the runner by grounding to the right.

I had tuned out for dinner, and then tuned back in to see that equipment delay, and after 20 minutes, I still have no idea what precipitated it. It was fascinating theater of the absurd. Two teams, four umpires, all walking around the field, shrugging at each other and occasionally pointing.

I imagine the outcomes under such a narrow set of circumstances would look pretty random, thought not meaningless. The distinction between a team that is playing .050 ball in such circumstances and a team that is playing .020 ball (or .000 ball, for the Mets) may or may not be a difference maker. The Rockies as leader, on one hand, make no sense, as they are having a terrible season, but on the other hand, kind of do make some sense, as they play in a stadium where runs are plenty.

Please don't spend another night telling me about how Mets starters don't go deep. Yeah, Phillies starters have gone deeper, but they are leaving out that Wheeler isn't aboard anymore.
