  1. February 12 Brandon Nimmo has found new power working with Kevin Long Tejada might play short when Neise pitches Matt Harvey: Chilling in Laos helpe me focus on the job back home Anthony Recker decided it was selfish to keep his genes all to himself
  2. I'm Chasen Bradford, a rare bird in that I'm a minor league pitcher who has climbed to the threshold of the big time while never serving as a starter. I pitched in Bingo and Vegas last year, and I pitched a lot — 72.2 innings over 57 games. Will the Mets ride me into the ground before they need me? Jeff Walters says they might! It's not an action shot, but it's really me! What will I bring to the table in 2014?

  4. I don't think he's going to taste any waiver soup this season. Not that we have right to expect another deGrom to appear for at least a generation, but he has the best chance to totally pull a deGrom. Remember, Hairboy got called up on the same day as the more anticipate Montero. Wouldn't it be nice if Bowman gets called up along with Syndergaard and totally pants him? Right now, the depth chart looks like: Harvey deGrom Wheeler Niese Colon *** Gee Montero Syndergaard Bowman Matz Possibly Gorski is in there too, but he didn't get a camp invite. So I don't expect Bowman to get the call unless there's a confluence of him pitching like a beast at the time of a serious injury. He gets a September invite. 11 innings. NO runs.
  5. A sidenote: Searching for him leads me to a lot of hits on "Charles Hurth III," a Republican political operative who, it wouldn't be crazy to guess, may well be the Met GM's grandson who literally bites ass, having been busted and successfully sued with regard to the following incident. [fimg=450:2pi8keni]http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Fhd2UZ0pRYs/TA5vb_xBz0I/AAAAAAAAAqY/xF20c0KOZV4/s1600/CharlesHurthBite.JPG[/fimg:2pi8keni]
  6. Tom Seaver once borrowed my soap and didn't give it back. CRITICISM!
  7. Do it for me and the love we share.
  8. The Mets perhaps I knew this and forgot, and perhaps I never knew it all had a GM before George Weiss. One Chares Hurth had the original chair, with Weiss serving as president. But Hurth resigned on November 15, 1961, pretty much just when it was time to start building the 1962 team. I'd think that maybe he was just there to built the organizational infrastructure and then turn the club over to men more seasoned in procuring talent, except that he left with two years left on a three-year contract. What was that about? He doesn't even have a listing in the UMDB! Here he is in 1961, center all high-wasted and wedding-ringless meeting with the president of the Carolina League's Raleigh club, who had just become one of the Mets first two ever affiliates. The club's owner is, as you might guess, a Pepsi-Cola bottler. [fimg=450]https://metsinpeace.files.wordpress.com/2015/02/untitled-1.jpg[/fimg] What's the deal with Hurth?
  9. Wow, a parenthetical sarcastic attack! You are starting to like me!
  10. Absolutely. I was trying to grab another shot.
  11. This statement is an annual event, isn't it? "I was really suffering last year, but didn't want to say so, even when asked directly. But I'm really 1000% better this year, honest."
  12. Got to check my work after posting. I thought I clicked on a Bowman photo, and somehow grabbed that. A lefty! Doofus!
  13. Matt Bowman, like Gabriel Ynoa, finds himself falling into that category of Mets pitching prospects flying under the radar because of a sweet surfeit of pitching prospects. But as a starting pitcher who has held his own after a call-up from Bingo to Las Vegas, he is not to be overlooked, having turned in strong performances at every level since joining the organization out of Princeton University back in 2012, and climbing fast since then. Plus, he's from Chevy Chase, and you're not. That's him. All six feet and 165 pounds of him. What's your forecast of fifteen for Matt Bowman.
  14. Blown saves, huh? That's tough to call. (Or easy. I guess most everybody gets 2–4.)
  15. Putting aside for a moment the cloud of insinuations of Nazi collaboration that hung over Wodehouse. I'll take Ms. Lee.
  16. Career disaster for Francis Ford Coppola and probably a strong knife in the heart of the film musical genre. Yet, I am curious. Should I go away somewhere and sit quietly until that curiosity passes?
  17. Jackie Robinson West stripped of their US Little League title after an investigation that reads as so thorough as to make the NFL look silly (not hard, I know). Now, see, had they been to Citi Field, they'd know that the nine virtues of JRR are Courage, Determination, Teamwork, Persistence, Integrity, Citizenship, Justice, Commitment, and Excellence. Six of these virtues won't do! Reputation of Philadelphia's Mo'ne Davis: still unsullied! [fimg=450]http://a.abcnews.com/images/Sports/AP_mone_davis_jtm_140815_16x9_992.jpg[/fimg]
  18. Well, someone will pitch. Who? Will they go with all right-handers? Why do you see it as a distinct weakness, after excellent seasons by both Edgin and Carlyle?
  19. Vic Black, like Josh Edgin, surprised everybody by failing to make the team out of camp. When he did join the squad, he proved to be effective and trustworthy, also like Edgin. had a nice little run there for a while as the "Seventh-Inning Guy," as goofy an assignment as that is. But then he herniated a disc and appeared only twice in September. [fimg=450:bpp5iwqy]https://thenypost.files.wordpress.com/2014/01/black.jpg[/fimg:bpp5iwqy] With Bobby Parnell expected back, Black becomes the fourth-highest-profile right-handed reliever on the team, behind Mejia, Parnell, and Familia, but ahead of Torres. If Dillon Gee ends up in the bullpen, Black could be the guy squeezed out. What do you forecast for Blackie?
  20. Well, 3.3 years above the mean in Savannah, yeah. But 1.8 over in Savannah and 0.4 over in Bingo don't plus me. 'Sides, he may have been over-aged, but he wasn't over-experienced. I don't know if he's any good, but I get the notion that the Mets think he may be a little something.
  21. Not a lot of Dario believers out there.
  22. I have 18 at-bats (24 PAs) down. Six hits. Six walks. Some power too. Maybe two homers. Maybe one homer and two doubles. Gets grabbed by St. Louis when the Mets try to pass him through waivers after having been stung by him the week before.
  23. Even that seems sort of optimistic. He plays a little outfield, but it seems to me, unless he hits the cover off the ball, the only way gets called up is an injury to/abject failure by Duda and at least one other guy. The long, sad journey of Dykstra has taught me a thing or two. If you want to hear that phone ring, you've got to do more than hit (and walk) in order to make your own breaks. You've got to be versatile.
  24. Brandon Allen has outlasted Allen Dykstra in the role of AAA first base insurance policy. Like Dykstra, he's a have-bat-will-travel type with middling-to-decent power and a fat walk rate. Unlike Dykstra, he's got himself an invitation to Mets spring training while Dykstra has moved on. [fimg=400]http://m.mlb.com/assets/images/7/5/8/101329758/cuts/allen1280_sew1i8h1_vfhe5ylh.jpg[/fimg] Plan B at first is probably to move Michael Cuddyer there if Duda gets himself broke, an replace him with John Mayberry et al. the outfield. But Allen comes to camp without a roster spot joining Eric Campbell as a solid Plan C. A SOLID PLAN C! What's your forecast for Brandon Allen's 2015 contributions to the New York Mets?
