  1. It kinda looks like a steal, only because the catcher and the runner seem to come together a lot like Berra and Robinson. But it probably is just an otherwise typical play at the plate. The pitcher seems to be watching a throw come in from the left. So, is that YSI?
  2. Following a profound split between his first half and his second, sandwiched around a torrid visit back to AAA, what do you think Travis d'Arnaud will provide this season?
  3. Nah, I remember Cardenál well, because he was acquired between games of a doubleheader from the team (Philadelphia) the Mets were playing, so he strangely just walked through the tunnel to the other clubhouse. It would've made a better story if he played, but he sat both games. The other thing worth remembering is the Phils were the class of the division, with solid players all over the field and big sluggers at third and in left, but they were platooning at first, with Hebner and Cardenál. Contending teams often get restless with a platoon, feeling like they're faking it. So when they got Pete Rose for first, both halves of the Hebdenál platoon ended up being scuttled Metsward, Hebner at the start of 1979 and José later that season. He was a pretty good player, enjoying some time coming off the bench at the end of his career. I was a little surprised the Mets kept him around to start off 1980. He was mostly playing the corners by then, but I'd've guessed he got a game or two at first or in center.
  4. Sorry, I thought we had those guys all in. I was ready to go with Cardenál. Karl Marx is, of course, Randy Jones.
  5. PREDICT!! Seriously, man, these threads are about money on the table.
  6. The ol' Twin has hit like a prince since joining the Rockies. But it brings up two questions that can only be answered on the field. [*:g9zydh5b]Will what happens in Colorado stay in Colorado?[/*:m:g9zydh5b] [*:g9zydh5b]If the production comes with him, will the dodgy health come also?[/*:m:g9zydh5b][/list:o:g9zydh5b] Get to work on that beard, MC. 7. I was watching The Odd Couple Season 1 Episode 7 ("Oscar's Ulcer") and got this sweet screen grab of Oscar flying the flag. [fimg=400]https://metsinpeace.files.wordpress.com/2015/02/screen-shot-2015-02-17-at-6-08-56-pm.png[/fimg] Later in the episode, Oscar heads out to a Mexican restaurant where he's watching a ballgame. Felix said he knew he'd be there because the Mets are out of town. The first play we see is a runner scoring. It kind of looks like a steal of home but the pitcher doesn't look like he's coming out of his windup. It in fact looks like a broader angle version of the famous Jackie Robinson steal in Game One of the 1955 World Series. It'd be impressive if they dug up that play of all plays to use as file footage, but that's doubtful. [fimg=400]https://metsinpeace.files.wordpress.com/2015/02/screen-shot-2015-02-17-at-6-43-07-pm.png[/fimg] You can see the play here, starting about the 20:10 mark, as Oscar multi-tasks, watching the game, stuffing his face, arguing with Felix, and making time with a Mexican waitress. Blink and you'll miss.

But why would Mets fans have wanted a shortstop that hit about two HR's a week when they already had one that hit about two HR's every six years? Don't you claim Wilpon was in charge since, like 1993, or something?

  10. Black looks like an enchanted woodlands creature. In fact, a Vic Black Gnome Day would be redundant.
  11. Vic Black, Bobby Parnell, Kirk Nieuwenhuis jump on a trend.
  12. This Mets team is going to make so much history in its next 10 years, it's going to be a blur. A glorious blur. I'm not advocating for the retirement of this guy's jersey or that, or even the un-unofficial retirement of Mays' number. If it happens, it happens. What's going on with the Yankees is so obvious that Bono* sang it out loud in 1988. You glorify the past when the future dries up. Here's to the future. And whatever the team does with regard to ceremonies during that period, here's to those ceremonies taking place on dates that are part of a long string of sellouts. * Bono Bono, not Jason Phillips Bono.

I think we'd be hard pressed to find someone in any sport that donned the same laundry for that long and doesn't have a retired number hanging around in tribute. It was pretty jarring to my young eyes to see Hubie immediately adorned with Ed's trademark digit. It seems that, in any case where a rational case can be made for number retirement, a team would do well to suspend issuing that number while the arguments play themselves out. Of course, sometimes the opposite tack is taken reissue the number quickly to close any debate before it gets any momentum. I get the idea that Ed didn't leave on good terms. Maybe Doubleday (or that dang Wilpon) didn't like him joining a rival bidding faction.
  14. Well, that's two more things the Mets shouldn't do.
  15. What's that pin you've been seeing on Bob Hendley's lapel? That's the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame pin, buddy.
  16. No way I'd remember this guy at all if it wasn't for his "LOOKIN' GOOOOD!!!" catchphrase.
  17. Not Rajsich? I'm slumping. [fimg=350:zl9m4j2f]http://2guystalkingmetsbaseball.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/large_stearns.jpg[/fimg:zl9m4j2f]
  18. An inconsistent 2014 saw Bartolo Colon alternating three good starts with three spotty starts. He did what he's best at — limiting walks and pitching deep into games, but one might hope for more winning baseball. Oh, and he swung the bat like a maniac. Made Al Leiter look like a pro. Is it all about the inning-eating? Or is there more you can get out of Bartolo? What do you think he'll give the Mets in 2015?
  19. I just wasn't clear on what your post was in response to regarding the thread of the thread. Now I see you were picking up on the Putz trade discussed at the bottom of page one.
  20. Joel Youngblood 1980 centerfielder.
  21. I'll need clarification on that one.
