  1. The truth is that I'm not asking for better defense, so much as better plate discipline. But more than that, I'm asking Terry stop living in fear and put Tejada at short and Flores at third.
  2. Can he go down to Vegas? I'm not so sure his contract and performance level is so prohibitive that he could be assumed to clear waivers to be sent down, as have other pitchers. That's why I speak of phantom injuries. Sometimes the only way to send a vet down for a period is for him to be disabled and then visit the minors on a rehab turn. I'm not doubting a vacation with a finessey lefty like Frank Viola wouldn't be a good thing, but I'm not sure Vegas is good for anybody's kahnfidence.
  3. Astros outfield prospect Derek Fisher was doing OK in A-Ball. Darn good actually hitting .305 / .386 / .510 // .896 for the Quad Cities River Bandits of the Midwest League. You don't want to keep a bat like that in A-Bal indefinitely, and neither did the Astros. So they called him up to the Lancaster JetHawks of the High-A California League. His first game: 4-6, with a double and three homers, two of them for grand slams, for a total of 12 RBI, against real pitching and everything. Notable (additionally notable) is that each of the three homers went to different fields. In case you're prone to prospect jealousy, MLB.com doesn't even list him as one of their top ten prospects, placing him 11th.
  4. I wouldn't conclude too much about one case based on another single case, however.
  5. Carig in one paragraph says"I think he's gone. And if he's on a different team, I'm gonna say yes, it would be the Yankees. That's just the reality of what this is." And then in the next, to go by this report, rants against fans being obsessed about what's going to happen 2019. That sounds like a man who needs a reality check.

  7. Looking for a media audience And it's keeping me up late Looking for a media audience Lord, don't make me wait I'll take HuffPo, Forbes, or the Daily Kos In a pinch, I'll go for Slate Looking for a media audience I guess it's just my fate
  8. Skye Bolt could ease my post-Damien Magnifico heartbreak.
  9. D'ang. Strangely Dee Gordon seems like the MVP on this team, not Giancarlo Franco.
  10. Ramos doesn't look so tough.
  11. Thanks Martn Prado. More help from the Mets, please.
  12. No doubt, but we've replaced the sacrifice bunt with the double play in our arsenal.
  13. Capps touches every part of his body before his motion.
  14. Yeah, but that'll be the fifteenth time. Be well. And happy birthday.
  15. Always remember.
  16. Team sucks. Fire Terry Collins, please. You're rather, I don't know... fickle. The only thing you can do about the Gordon bunt is go home and find a dose of that in your own game. That's the difference in the ballgame, right there.
  17. This is taking longer than I thought. I figured they'd be at .500 by now.
  18. That was a crazy move, Ruben.
  19. Credit that single to Tejada... and to Hsker D.

  21. Old Mets Who Have Devolved into Fish Lenny Harris (19982001) is the third base coach. Reid Cornelius (1995) is the bullpen coach. Brett Butler (1995) is the outfield and base running (and bunting!) coach. Jeff Conine (2007) is special assistant to the president and pre- and post-game analyst. He is joined in the pre- and post-game by Preston Wilson (1998).
  22. And chasing high cheese. He likes that, too.
  23. Ceciliani really likes dirt on his hands.
  24. Ceciliani, bunt your way on.
  25. But he cuts him down!
