  1. Hey, Michael Taylor: BOOOO!!! Don't steal my runs. Who do you think you are? Willie Harris?
  2. He has the ball. May he flourish with it.
  3. I liked that article too. What with his weird zen detachment on the stage, I would have thought of any veteran influence points he's earned as having been earned through example, rather verbal contributions. Good footwork by Nightengale, who's old skool in the better sense of the term.
  4. Clint Robinson is playing first base there and den Dekker playing left. Lobaton is catching in place of Wilson Ramos. Adam Rubin has reported that Michael Cuddyer is not in the Mets starting lineup, but the lineup itself isn't posted yet, I assume because they're waiting to see if Giancarlo can fly in by game time.
  5. Strange things all around the infield: Tyler Moore is playing first base, in place of Ryan Zimmerman. Danny Espinsosa is playing second base, in place of Yunel Escobar. Yunel Escobar is playing third base, in place of Anthony Rendon. Ian Desmond is playing shortstop, in place of Ian Desmond. The outfield is a little pear-shaped also: Clint Robinson is playing left field, in place of Jason Werth. Michael Taylor is playing center field, in place of Denard Span.
  6. Following up on two Florida State League League PotW honors already this season, your Eastern League PotW is Michael Conforto.
  7. Recker wasn't in the lineup for the 51s, so I'm guessing he got an early flight out of Vegas, but the transaction wasn't finalized until after the Mets game.

I had thought of that. Doing some quick, back-of-the-envelope math says the Mets look slightly more handsome (less repulsive) on a runs-per-27-outs basis. 9. That correlates pretty nicely with the Mets' home/road records.

    Well, that series wasn't exactly the soothing balm I ordered from my pharmacist. Tm R/G ARI 4.47 COL 4.39 SFG 4.27 WSN 4.21 LAD 4.17 MIL 4.06 STL 4.03 PIT 3.99 LgAvg 3.98 SDP 3.92 CIN 3.87 ATL 3.83 CHC 3.83 MIA 3.71 PHI 3.46 NYM 3.45
  11. I'm guessing that they're planning on getting an outfielder, but they knew the market wasn't meeting them yet. So they decided to get what they could out of Cuddyer over the last two gimpy weeks.
  12. OK, 27 Games.
  13. Strangely, though, he hit against St. Louis. Hottest Met over the last seven games, to the extent one can measure heat in the arctic.
  14. Michael Cuddyer may be DL bound, according to Adam Rubin. The injury is a bone bruise, and tends to worsen as games progress. He's started only six games in July thus far. I guess the most likely internal option right now looks like Travis Tajeiron. Whoever it is unless it's Dillon Gee, Rafael Montero, Dario Avarez, Vic Black, Jack Leathersich, Akeel Morris, Scott Rice, Logan Verrett, Travis d'Arnaud, Anthony Recker, or Zach Lutz would be Met #1000.
  15. Amazingly, we exit that chilly series as... the hottest team in the division(?!) even after the Phillies have completed their sweep the Marlins. Coming on strong is San Francisco, edging back ahead of the Mets and sitting one game off the pace for the second Wild Card slot, currently held by Chicago, but I've got no faith in them. Also making a minor run with a hot weekend is the previously disastrous San Diego, which may make them just a little coyer about dealing off parts. 16. You may now cease your distress. All is well with the world. Recker's probably a good bet to be tomorrow's catcher, since Kevin Plawecki caught about a billion innings today. 17. He doesn't play the Hammond organ. That song is one of those confusing songs where he's actually disputing what seems to be the thesis in the title. It may be the best Harry Nillson record not actually done by Harry Nilsson.
  18. To say nothing of Tony! Toni! Ton! [youtube:3i71vna5]-pyC7WnvLT4[/youtube:3i71vna5]
  19. I envy your hairy ass.
  20. Lost in the slow drama is that the Nats lost to the Dodgers, 50, and Washington now has your hitless wonders a mere two games behind them. The Mets head to DC with a chance to take back first place, thought they may not feel like it. Any offensive magic you might have in your hats, it's a good time to pull it out.
  21. Now that his slump has covered about half the season, I'm not shy about wondering if maybe the Mets have had a second consecutive 30-homerun first baseman turn into a pumpkin. Have they? If not, what in the name of Willie Montaez is to be done? I'm asking because shopping list for hitters has seemingly included shortstops, outfielders, and third basemen, but at this point, why not look at first basemen? Tell me, why not?
  22. I remember a disastrously failed suisqueeze a few weeks back. Can't remember the last successful one.
  23. Look at 'em. Most understated victory celebration ever.
  24. Thank you for swinging at the first pitch, Reynolds.
