Got to see one classic Lagares play, but I ended up cutting out before the bottom of the ninth. Long day at work tomorrow. You want to put that loss on me, I understand. But yeah, the one-inning-reliever thing is murder. Pointless under American League rules, certainly.

That's always a tough deal. It seemed an open secret to most everybody that the Mets were hanging onto him until he was healthy enough to release. This incentivizes a player to continue to act hurt. It may be the last big league money you ever see. But if they're not planning to release you, and the open secret is just a rumor, well the idea that you're dogging it to stay on the roster is sure going to motivate them to releasing you anyway. Strange system. Everybody's got a professional motivation to be dishonest. Didn't even DFA the guy. Cold. Consensus here in section 72 is that first inning got the road monkey off Syndergaard's back. Ruben, by the way, appears to be getting the series off after whiffing on that DP ball.

It took two batters today for a KABOOM!

Gavin cracks MLB's top 100 prospect list.

Yeah. The Dodgers got Utley and the Mets got glutley.

Thanks for those days of denial, Ruben Amaro. Man, San Francisco is suddenly looking for sure like the post-season hopeful without depth. They're going to ride their starters or bust against far deeper lineups.

Now I feel so stupid about all that cash I dropped on the billboard.

Vegas is guarding a 1.5-game lead. Whoever goes down, it might be a beneficial thing to play every day and help his team across the finish line, before coming back in September to pennant drive of the major league variety. Vegas went to the bottom of the ninth last night and filled the bases with 2015 Mets Darrell Ceciliani on first, Kirk Nieuwenhuis on second. and Eric Campbell a-hugging third. Dan Rohlfing came to bat and won it for Las Vegas (and for YOU, you ungrateful wretches) Homer Simpson-style, taking a pitch to the body and sending Campbell home. Dilson Herrera collected another three hits and is up to .349, which would be a league-leading number if he had enough at-bats to qualify. He would also then displace teammate Travis Tajeiron for fifth place in the league in OPS. Travis is looking for love.

Worth noting is that the Mets are sitting on a nine-game win streak over the Orioles. I think they're 22-9 lifetime over the Birds. That's 26-10 if you count post-season. You're welcome, Yankees.

Tack another 0.1 onto Syndergaard's fWAR for his hitting, and he's off to the races. fWARs of Other Met Rookies Sean Gilmartin 0.6 (0.5 pitching and 0.1 hitting) Michael Conforto 0.4 Hansel Robles 0.4 Rafael Montero 0.4 Steven Matz 0.3 (0.1 pitching and 0.2 hitting) Dilson Herrera 0.3 Darrell Ceciliani 0.3 Erik Goeddel 0.3 Logan Verrett 0.2 Kevin Plawecki 0.2 Rocket Leathersich 0.1 Akeel Morris -0.1 Daniel Muno -0.2 Johnny Monell -0.3

Same section for me tonight, this time accompanied by my fair wife. I don't know how much of it was me seating near the 7LA, but the park was seriously Metty last night. Lots of mixed marriages, too. All I spoke to agreed that the Yankees are a bunch of turds.

Looking at the lumpiness factor, I'd be surprised if the Mets tried Uribe at short in any but the most desperate of circumstances.

I got no room in the discussion for Scherzer.

Johnson hasn't done a lot, but, well, you sure don't want to throw him overboard if you don't hafta. Could be a useful part yet going forward. So it looks like it's Lagares vs. Conforto vs. whoever is hurt at the time (Duda?). If nobody is hurting, then it's Lagares (and any concerns that a demotion could undermine his career and confidence) vs. Conforto (and any concerns that a demotion could undermine the Mets' offense for a week. I'm also curious what happens to Uribe's role when Wright returns. Maybe he helps Duda out at first against lefties a little, pinch-hits, and dreams about the second games of double-headers. Even if Wright doesn't play every day, he's certainly not going to sit against any lefties.

As it sits today, Noah Syndergaard isn't a very strong candidate for the big prize, although he's certainly maneuvering to get in on the money. It appears to be Kris Bryant and Matt Duffy's race. (Kris, meet Billy Hamilton.) The good news is that pitchers can make up ground pretty fast. (Noah, meet Jacob deGrom.) The bad news, such as it is, is that the team is threatening to curb Syndergaard's innings down the stretch. Good to see him leading among pitchers, but if he's going to make a move, he can start by leaving the Mr. Hyde-on-the-road act behind this evening. Even if the gap in the peripherals shrink, Greinke has an appealing won-loss record. That gap will have to shrink as well, and there's only so much control a man has over that. On the other hand, deGrom won the Rookie of the Year race with a terrifically strong finish last year.

Welcome back to Logan Verrett, the next Chris Heston which, I guess, means that he has a pretty good chance to throw a no-hitter against the Mets next year. Mets Guy in Michigan wrote: Edgy MD wrote: "According to an industry source..." That may not seem like much to you, but when your name is Mike F. Puma, you make the rules yourself with your own bare hands. Exactly! Who in the hell is an "industry source" and how the hell would he know? Imagine if he A) Asked Parnell, or Asked Terry or Sandy? The thing is, unnamed sources in themselves aren't bad things. But there is supposed to be a standard. Something like having independent confirmation from a second source. And yeah, a basic part of the job is to call the principles Parnell, his agent, Alderson if only to get a no-comment, which you would print as such. I mean, you have a story alleging that the Mets are gaining an advantage by breaking or at least circumventing the rules. Honor your own scoop and do the full job, Mike. But congrats on the scoop. EAT IT, RUBIN!

Wow, gosh, and golly. Who'd've guessed the model of the forward-thinking front office would become a model of instability?

I left a 5-1 ballgame. I don't know what this "ninth inning" you speak of is.

What Gentlemans agreement the runner on third from jogging home there? Nobody's holding him.

"Is That Love?"

Yeah, total 7 Line Army act on my right. Not my kind of scene (at least, anymore), but they mostly do it right. Forgot my appreciation of the Oriole Park DJ. Mostly 80s fare, but he just went totally off-book by playing "Misfit Kid" by the Cars from Panorama. Now he or she is spinning "Dr. Robert." S As I sit and type, I get a segue to "Do It Clean" by Echo. Be my BFF, Oriole DJ. Shit. Delayed start just announced. (And Ryan "Church of the Poison Mind" comes on.)
