I know the performance history speaks well of him, but I've never been impressed by Volquez. He's got a cute knuckle curve, but not much more.

Ashie quits early.

Royals radio announcer is sounding mid-season drunk. Cespedes is not very supportive of Matt Harvey.

I'm your man. If Ty Kelly can't do it, I sure can. I'm a big, boy-faced first baseman/leftfielder that's played approximately one full season with four teams spread out over three seasons, and... I haven't hit yet. But, you know, I'm something of a minor league terror (.378 OBP over 2500+ PAs), and something could click at any time. ANY TIME! I think that time is here. And the place is now. Or something. I intend to collect a big league pension someday. What's the outlook seem to be? It's not like Terry to put two righties followed by three lefties through the heart of the order.

Good work getting the backup catcher's mojo in there. Other former Met matinee idols getting paid Royally these days include Omar-era-disabled-Met-reliever-turned-disabled-Royals-reliever Jason Vargas, mid-90s-Mets-reliever-turned-Royals-bullpen-coach Doug Henry, Mets-backup-catcher-turned-AA-manager Vance Wilson, ephemeral-Mets-infielder-turned-high-A-hitting-coach Abraham Nuñez, and Met-offspring-turned-special-assistant-to-the-Royals-general-manager Jim Fregosi, Jr.

Hi, I'm skinny, sensitive, and artistic Mets reserve infielder and internet funny man Ty Kelly. You may think, that a minor league journeyman won't taste a real New York bagel this year, but hey, I'm funny, and between me and Ty Cobb, we have 4,189 hits. I hit .179 this spring, so that isn't going to get me my big break, but I'm a grinder, and I think I'm going to grind out a season worthy of the name Ty. What do you think? I was a little blocked last season, and frankly, when injuries piled up and I was given a job, I didn't cut it. I was as big a part of the offensive black hole in the middle of 2016 as anybody. But things have loosened up a little for me. I mean, one year of Neil Walker is less of a blockade than a three year contract to Murphy, right? So one injury or failure — at second, third, or short — and I'm possibly right back in the mix. And should that come to pass, I intend to show my merits! What do you think I'll show? Still waiting to hear where Carlos Torres lands after his release from the Braves. Another Met cast into exile this offseason, but not mentioned above was Wilfredo Tovar, who hit a surprising .292 / .346 / .333 // .679 with the Twins out of Lakeland, but was a late cut, going down to minor league camp last week.

Surprised they decide to essentially go with a 24-man roster the first two days and sort of taxi-squad the suspended Robles. But wars of attrition don't tend to happen under American League rules. Also surprised the carried Eric Campbell as the sixth-infielder over a defense-first option, considering they're generally profiling as a defensively lackluster team. Anyhow, congratulations to your 2016 opening-day Mets. We'll let remaining free agents Edigolis Villasmil, Vic Black, Jake Kuebler, Jonathan Galvez, and Vince Belnome quietly drift into the ether of indy ball pickups, shoulder rehab, and post-baseball careers. A story previously dramatized by Gary and Martin Kemp of Spandau Ballet in 1990's The Krays:

But the dream of a Torres reunion dies, as Carlos T. asks for and receives his release, presumably exercising a contract clause that allowed him to go free if he didn't make the team out of camp.

Something about a chin beard is mysterious. So mysterious that I didn't even get a thread until now, despite my name beginning with a B. I spent all of last season in St. Lucie, but I kicked serious assification in the Venezuelan Winter League, and I'm ready to punish people now in my age 21 season. I probably will top out at AAA this season, but you might know better. I'll tell you this, sometime in 2017, I'll be sharing a homegrown New York outfield with Conforto and Lagares and Nimmo. And that'll be really cool. What else do you see? [fimg=444:24v3ikbp]https://cdn1.vox-cdn.com/thumbor/FnPys0Olhs1zbdo12bsLjdSLTG8=/0x125:2400x1475/1600x900/cdn0.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_image/image/46744564/wuilmer-becerra-donovan-2015.0.0.jpg[/fimg:24v3ikbp] [fimg=250:24v3ikbp]http://cdn.c.photoshelter.com/img-get2/I0000AlAbAAYuQEY/fit=/fill=250x250/g=G0000W6FNqYXs150/I0000AlAbAAYuQEY.jpg[/fimg:24v3ikbp]

I'm a big, Canadian right-hander who lost his track after shoulder surgery, and now I'm back. I even know how to wear a beard right. You had scarcely heard of me, and now I'm on your team and you're NEVER going to forget me. Who's your failsafe if Jeurys Familia doesn't turn out to be the closer we're all hoping he'll be. Well, I think it's Big Jim Henderson, THAT'S who! I replaced John F. Axford and if need be, I can replace Jeurys, too. What do you think? Man, peoples are gonna be furious about Campbell. Here's hoping he does something awesome in KC.

The real issue is Terry's soft-handed refusal to give orders to veteran guys. Play where I say on the field, and bat where I say in the order ... Terry left that guy in Anaheim or something.

The team has been "unlucky" for a lot of these games, in that they're matching the other team with regard to base runners, but being outscored meaningfully. But after 10 games, you have to start looking at stuff stuff like defense and base running and how few Met hits are leaving the yard.
