You've got me. Caught me lamenting when I shouldn't lament.

Yeah, I'm in agreement. John Harper is no expert. Jim Callis doesn't appear to be actually saying what Harper thinks he's saying, or that any of it adds up to anything approaching consensus. Harper is just trying to troll the Mets by mocking past drafts, and encourage them to try to win by losing, like the losers they are.

He didn't have to "pull himself from the game." He just would have had to stop fighting their attempts to sit him down. Of all the controversies, this is about as empty as it gets. Even the alleged insult actually contained something of an implied compliment.

He lasted 9 1/2 years, for somebody who seemed to be just given the job mid-season as an interim when Peterson was let go. I would guess that's the longest tenure of any Met coach since the remaining guys from Gil Hodges staff who ultimately got fired along with Joe Torre. Maybe Harrelson gets a longer tenure if you add his coaching career and his managerial career, but I don't think so.

He is an employee, and the idea that Ramirez goes and Barwis stays is an anathema. It's an execration.

Well, for a very long time, the team home run record was 1962. #RunExpectancies

Amazing to hear Keith at the end of the year, speaking about the pleasant surprises of pitchers like Sewald and Montero and even Pill — pitchers who were, in fact, just getting by, and would in other years be the staff lightning rod.

Some of your Tuesday games were awful awful. You had one really good one too, if I recall. We covered a list of the season-defining crap-ups here. But there were two-plus months of brown and gooey storylines to come. I think the team having to break into Harvey's apartment is really the worst, followed by the disgracing of our costumed mascot.

Wow, 2039. Plus you have a full-time job, a pair o' kids, and follow the real-life team. The game really seemed to be chewing up my time, so after 108 wins, I bagged it. Have you signed any players who were born off-planet?

This better not be another kickback deal like the Washington team got mixed up in.

batmagadanleadoff wrote: Edgy MD wrote: Sure it is. I'd rather draft 4th than 7th*. That's all I was saying and the only thing I could see that's complicated or controversial about that thinking is that you think it's complicated or controversial. No, that's not true. That may be all you're saying now, but the greater context is tanking to improve your draft position, which is certainly and unambiguously complicated and controversial. Beyond that, nobody has argued as resoundingly as yourself that the draft is a crapshoot. So this root-for-the-Mets-to-lose-and-improve-their-draft-position is a latter-day about-face.

Sure it is.

What's the most you ever won in that game? I replayed the Mets 2011 season, the first under Collins and Alderson, and won 83 games, outplaying the real-life team by six games. I then, with little experience playing this game, went out and spent what the game said should be my budget, added a few dudes, subtracted a few, and then went out and won 108 games in 2012. Is the game that beatable, or am I a baseball genius? (In fairness, the game didn't know anything about Madoff, and so they gave me a budget that was less austere than the one Sandy was using.)

Do it for Prince! Do it for Grant Hart! Do it for Mary Tyler Moore!

Milwaukee came in at the last moment and tied the Mets for the NL lead in homers, but it's still no small Metly accomplishment, since they had traded away their first- (Bruce), third- (Granderson), fifth- (Duda), and tenth-leading (Walker) homerun hitters with a third of the season to go. Number 12 (René Rivera) too! Those are their rankings at the end of the season, Assuredly, their rankings tended to be higher at the point of their trades. Also notable is that numbers 2 (Michael Conforto), 4 (Wilmer Flores), and 6 (Yoenis Céspedes) came home on stretchers. And of course David Wright and his 242 career homers gets a big DNP on the season. This was good for ninth in scoring for the league, which is a gross lack of correlation between baseball's scoringest play, and actually scoring. This is largely explained by that 11th-place finish in on-base percentage in the National League. So, as annoying as his backwards-K strikeouts seem to be, it's almost imperative that the Mets find lineup room for Nimmo next season. Any offseason acquisitions should focus on OBP. And if they could have names like Votto or Altuve, that might be nice too. Yeah, I know I'm supposed to be panting for Giancarlo Stanton, but I fear more homers aren't going to save us.

Parting ways with Terry is just the beginning. This is going to be an incredibly complicated season for Alderson's front office. THE ROTATION: For now it's projected to be the five guys that were projected to hold their jobs this season, but it would be the least surprising thing in the world if Alderson has given up on at least one or two and brings in a guy who isn't even superlative, but is steady. Maybe R.A. Dickey becomes Colón 2.0, but that's looking backwards. Somebody probably will though. THE BULLPEN: The most experienced and the guys out of options are listed below. Presumably, there will be a squeeze from on high, from at least one outside free agent, and on low, from the pack o' dudes acquired in the selloff. X-FACTOR: Will Jenrry Mejia get reinstated? It could look like current projections, but will probably look very different. THE OFFENSE: Three guys that would be projected to open the season had they been healthy — Rivera, Wright, Conforto — don't appear likely to be answering the bell on opening day. You want to fill in that space with winning dudes, but you don't want to recruit over somebody's head when he's going to be back in a month. Tough decisions. They likely won't have Reynolds, Cecchini, and Taijeron on the opening roster, certainly not all three, but likely a few Gary Matthews/Mike Jacobs-type fill-ins. That's no fun, but it happens. And likely there'll be at least one high-profile addition on offense. Infield or outfield, I dunno. I'm better at framing where they are now. I never really though that Conforto wasn't going to be ready for opening day until today, but I guess he likely isn't. FREE AGENTS: Unlike just about every other year, the Mets have only one major league free agent (José Reyes) this off-season. I keep Kelly Johnson next to Reyes below, because he never got signed last year, but never retired. In a sense, he's still a Mets free agent. This could change if Blevins and/or Cabrera don't get their options picked up, but there likely will be more dudes once the Mets start trimming the roster. ARBITRATION: Oh, my God, there's so much arbitration! Ten eligible dudes, including virtually all the key pitchers! What a great big pain in the ass! STAFF: I'm trying to treat this like I treat the players, replacing the guys who are going (Collins) or reportedly likely to go (Warten) with the next closest in-house solution, but who knows? MINOR LEAGUE FREE AGENTS: Holy moly, are there a lot of these guys! That's largely a product of players brought in during the season to fill in for all the Chris Flexens called up to replace injured Mets. But a lot are longtime organizational players that have played out their reserve period. Phil Evans was headed to minor league free agency up until a few weeks ago, and it's not 100% certainty that he doesn't get removed. But a lot replacements may have to brought in to strengthen the upper minors. 100% certainty has rarely been so elusive. But here's your projected roster, keeping in mind that projections aren't necessarily predicitions. I'm telling you, it's the pot.

Smith is putting on a minor league fielding clinic.

As Philly breaks through with a three-run dong in the bottom of the third. I don't think Flexie's a lost cause. He came up from AA in an emergency. A few seasons from now, he might be quite goodish.

I'm guessing Niese for the winningest pitcher during the Terry Tenure.

Ken Rosenthal, Scoopy McScoopmaster.

That Senderguard guy looked good. They should consider bringing him back next season.

Andrew Knapp is a great name for a backup catcher.

Love that 93-MPH change.
