1. That was a really terrific read, although it stays with the notion that the choices there were only to fight or to back down, but there were any number of third ways. Hamilton has a lot of nerve though. You're pissed that Piazza didn't throw down? I didn't see you out there bringing the fury.
2. Olerud was great, but brief. Some of these udder guys spent something like half their careers as Mets starters but never smelled the sweet air of All-Time Hits Leader Valhalla.
3. Biggest Mets names to retire without ever seeing time on the list: Gary Carter Dave Kingman Dave Magadan Gregg Jefferies Cliff Floyd Curtis Granderson Umm ... Robin Ventura? Lenny Dykstra?
4. I'm enjoying the hell out of reading this.
5. I'm embarrassed that I only learned about this last night. There are probably a dozen holes in the actual timeline of that thesis, but still, "Folk Music Saved the Mets" is my new quasi-fact. I'm putting it on a tee-shirt.
6. Also, I wish my brother Zvon were here, because he'd totally be into making a thing out of dressing Pete in various versions of Bowie hair and makeup.
7. As Michael Conforto is something like two years from cracking the bottom of that chart, the most likely way we'll see movement this season will be if Dan'l Murphy changes his mind about retirement and re-joins the Mets, perhaps finding enough pinch-hitting opportunities and off-day starts to rope in his 1,000th Mets hit.
8. Food room.
9. I'm not sure which was more riveting: the Kranepool/Jones matchup or the Wright/Reyes showdown. I know I'm going to kick myself, but it's after midnight, and my mind isn't working. Is there a meaning behind the different uses of orange bars and blue bars or did folks just enter the chart with alternate colors?
10. Betty Lee Seaver (nee Cline) was born September 2, 1913, in Butte, Montana, and died April 28, 1986, in Fresno, CA. [fimg=650]https://images.findagrave.com/photos/2020/247/215173606_d7693fea-1a82-45f2-924f-428aaec15de7.jpeg[/fimg] Betty Lee fell in love with a song called "Scotch & Soda" on her honeymoon in 1932, and husband Charles asked the lounge pianist if she had the sheet music, which the pianist obligingly transcribed for the newlyweds. Twenty-five years later, their daughter Katie was dating an aspiring musician. Wanting the best for her daughter's beau, she introduced him to the song she considered her's and her husband's. The musician was one-third of The Kingston Trio, and when his combo recorded the song, nobody knew who the composer was, so the young musician split the royalties with the Seavers. Legend has it that this minor windfall allowed the Seavers to enroll their son at USC before he was able to secure a baseball scholarship. So if you want to know the hidden force that redeemed the sad sack Mets and turned them into champions, the name of that force is "folk music." I'm Paul Harvey, and now you know the rest of the story.
11. That was me, and nobody else, I think. And I wasn't so much meaning to comment on the quality of his complexion as I was trying to note his relative adolescence in a camp full of men. Sorry again about that. Pete's mom, of course, is Met-lovin' big shot actress Ashley Crow, star of Little Big League, among other quality productions. Have you already cast Kyra Sedgwick only to find out that you need to fill the role of Kyra's sister as well? Why not consider Ashley Crow?! 12. I'm not typing well of late. Still getting some of the winter rust off.
13. Your final is an 8-4 Mets win. Jake Hager joined the homer club with a two run shit in the eighth. Each team enjoyed eight free passes. Each team had a guy picked off.
14. Perhaps of less concern is Pete Alonso, who got all four of those runs back on a grand slam in the bottom of the inning, picking up Dom Smith who left three, striking out on a foul tip before Alonso came up. Mets up 5-4 in the top of the seventh. Gselly on the mound.
15. According to Jeff Passan, a source has told ESPN (and it has https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/30992048/alternate-developmental-sites-return-mlb-teams-2021-aaa-season-gets-delayed-least-one-month-sources-saysubsequently been confirmed) that the AAA season will be delayed by a month, with players initially reporting to our 2020 friends, the alternate training sites. This is to allay concerns about players coming from camp and instantly jumping into travel without a quarantine period first, or something like that. The season will extend into September to make up for lost time.
16. Dellin Betances gets POUNDED in the fifth and the Mets fall behind 4-1. Dellin is a worry.
17. Whippoorwill said, and I quote (more or less), that she wanted it to be a rule that all Met wives marry their high school sweethearts and not some pole dancer. I go out and get a well-researched report of a Met marrying his high school sweetie and get tag-team shamed for my trouble. Fman, meanwhile, regularly and openly fantasizes about carnal acrobatics with the same ladies and he's the hero of the day? I DEMAND JUSTICE! THIS WHOLE SYSTEM IS OUT OF ORDER!
18. A ground single in the third ups Nimmo's spring average to .714.
19. Mets winning that contest 1-0 in the second thanks to a leadoff homer from Brandon Zimmo.
20. I have to say, I really enjoyed that video reel of his 2019 homeruns. I had forgotten what a huge portion of his early barrage was to center and right center. What I hadn't forgotten, but was delighted to see again, was just how cruelly and violently he can destroy a baseball.
21. I just think of it as part of the story I'm following. Part of what I think we do here is add dimension. I refuse to let the Fman put the creep hat on me.
22. Brooke Joseph (nee Cannon) went to college with Caleb's sister, who thought her friend would be the perfect wife for a career backup catcher, and so she introduced them on Facebook. She's from Eureka, California and attended school on a volleyball scholarship, graduating with a degree in mass communications. And if she turns into the next Kayleigh McEnany, I'm really going to go apeshit. She's got a wide, toothy smile, and seems to love her guy, who kind of gives off a menacing-backwoods-madman kinda vibe, so hats off to her. https://trevecca.prestosports.com/images/2010-2011/VB-CannonB-2.jpg> https://www.tnutrojans.com/images/2010-2011/VB-CannonB-1.jpg> [fimg=500]https://64.media.tumblr.com/872f232218c42cc3f01de8defd43dc22/tumblr_nyzzv5yfgx1ubn9cco1_1280.jpg[/fimg] https://fabwags.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/Caleb-Joseph-wife-Brooke-Cannon-Joseph-photo_thumb.jpg>
23. Hi, I'm the catcher of the future. Yeah, Met fans have been down that road, but I'm something. Even as a teenager, I've projected nothing but manhood. I skipped over the DSL entirely and at 17, I slugged over .500 between the GCL and Kingsport. Who does that? I do. So maybe I'm just an early peaker. Or maybe I juice like a maniac. Or maybe I've found a new, cool secret way to lie about my age. But I say I'm 19 and my game says I'm 25, so believe what you want. I'm built low to the ground but broad and strong just like God and Ivan Rodriguez intended catchers to be. So you can believe in me or you can doubt. I understand. I understand you've been burned in the past on this whole catcher-of-the-future deal, but I'm asking you right here and now what my 2021 is going to look like, and if any of you accidentally call me "Francisco Peña," I'm going to start punching. If you make it to 2:10 or so there's a really cool ballpark cut out of the rocks.
24. Crow-Armstrong, Mauricio, Vientos, Alvarez ... the Mets 2024 lineup is all getting their chances today.
25. And now it's 10-6. Two of the three runs were unearned, but still, not a strong inning for The Great Rock 'n' Roll Windle.
