  3. So, am I crazy, or was Heredia way too deep with Nido up?
  4. Thank you, Texas League.
  5. If they're pinch hitting Nido now, it's sort of a no-brainer to pinch-run for McCann now. I mean, they're not a lot of need for speed when you're on third with two out, but you can score on a ball in the dirt.
  6. You got it. If we pinch-ran for McCann, this would be tied.

  9. Those were three pitches I'd like back.
  10. Ouch. Anyhow, the curve that Morton is throwing is tough on everybody, but it seems utterly unfair to Khalil Lee.
  11. Can anybody explain the organist playing "Go Down, Moses" for Cameron Maybin?
  12. Villar now challenging Alonso for the team homerun lead.
  13. More interesting is that, starting against Syndergaard and his St. Lucie teammates, playing left field for the Palm Beach Cardinals, was a handsome prospect with the unlikely name of "Tommy Jew."
  14. I don't think we have solid information on that. Maybin may be the most definitive SOS move the Mets have made since James Loney.
  15. I suspect that, when J.D. returns (he seems to be on the fastest track), he might initially see more time outfielding than infielding.
  16. I don't think anybody would disagree with you. I certainly wasn't trying to suggest otherwise, if you read the rest of the post.
  17. Certainly not too much to ask, but you can expect the lesser lights of the bullpen to be called upon.
  18. MRC didn't have room for him in AAA when camp opened. But between the time he retired and the time the minor league season opened, and then again between then and today ... a path has been revealed. Too late for ☕️🎀, sadly.
  19. Fun Non-Fact: Upon hearing the stunning/not-stunning news that Mallex Smith is recovering from a broken foot, the team at Mets Roster Central started having a late-night rumination on the question "Just how close would we be to Tebow Time had the Heisman Winner not elected to hang 'em up this spring?" With the team currently getting buy on two outfielders plus Dom Smith and Jake Hager, they probably need two more just to call it an outfield, but they're calling it one now. Sticking with this configuration, they'd probably be at most within five outfielders injuries of calling up #15, with Mason Williams, Drew Ferguson, Sebastian Elizalde, Quinn Brodey and Matt Winaker probably still keeping the team from adding spectacle to disaster. But depending on who started the hottest, that could all break down. So yeah, welcome Cameron Maybin. I'd imagine we'd be clearing room for Juan Lagares at his old locker again if Mike Trout didn't get hurt.
  20. The first non-Verlander one for the Tigers since Kevin Costner.
  21. I agree with you, thougt the Phils came before the Mets in Hebner's timeline. He went to Detroit after. And hit there too. And even with the 1979 Mets, he co-led them in RBI despite playing in only 136 games. A big part of the problem with Hebner was what we've frequently seen since: (1) He wasn't a part-timer before he came to the Mets, but neither was he quite a full-timer, but he was coming over as the firstbaseman of a defending division champion with a stacked lineup, so he seemed to have high-end pedigree if you squinted. (2) He batted cleanup. (3) He was traded for the indifferently talented but popular Nino. (4) He was over-sold. A Met team that wasn't bringing in anybody brought in a cleanup hitter. (5) When he wasn't a superstar, he was booed. (6) Coming from a pennant winner to an under-resourced basement dweller, and getting rewarded with boos, he grumbled. (7) Those grumbles were interpreted as "Hebner hates us" and so he was booed some more. (8) The cycle fed off itself.

  23. I didn't get Foli. His Pirate teammates swore that he was a steal and a key cog of that 1979 championship, but with a gun to my head, I'd say that Taveras brought more to the table.
