  1. "And that's why my team has the eighth-best fWAR at first base in the National League. And there's this big game here tomorrow featuring all sorts of the best players, but I'm going home." — Pete Alonso
  2. I know. I noted that early. I guess my point is that I have a Milagro Beanfield War view of economics and justice. While exploitation is a constant in the macro, the individual mechanisms of exploitation in the micro are very much unsustainable and terminal.
  3. 1) The players and union each have an interest in ripping off amateurs, but it is not the same interest. 2) "High-school kids" is not an accurate description of the draft pool. 3) The idea that the teams are at their maximum spending limit is baseless. If they were, they wouldn't have a draft or a bonus cap. They install these things not because they have to, but because they want to, so no, it isn't true at all that "money spent on amateurs is less money spent on union members." Scarce commodities drive up prices. 4) Draftees have solidarity on their side. 5) Minor league unionization has momentum. 6) Agents are another party that is being ripped off. They are savvy professionals. 7) The anti-trust exemption is not guaranteed into perpetuity. Another party that has an interest in removing artificial constraints on the labor market is America. 8) If you're going to play the "Freddie Coupon" card, I'm not sure what else to say.
  4. =bmfc1 post_id=71206 time=1626144582 user_id=73] Let Pete get an AB tomorrow.
  5. I'm thinking The Buggles.
  6. [bIGPURPLE]¡CAMPEON![/bIGPURPLE]
  7. Pete wearing 44.
  8. Mancini sets the mark at 17 with a minute to go. Players, by the way, in their authentic team home jerseys.
  9. Dave Jauss teeing them up and Alonso knocking them into another state. He just took a time out with 14 in the bag and plenty of time left. No, that looks like it's it. Soto must have had 13. Alonso vs. Trey "Boom Boom" Mancini in the final.
  10. No, they don't. Not really. Beyond that, there are other interests that matter, that count, and that have legal representation.
  11. Solamente 15 para Juan. Pete tiene buenas posibilidades de defender su corona. Yes, I've switched to a Spanish feed.
  12. Soto is working with a lefty BP pitcher. Mostly hitting to center. And not showing me much.
  13. All the real muscle seems to be in the left side of the draw. Mancini beats Story 13-12 on the right side. Here comes Juan Soto opening against Alonso in the other semi-final.
  14. I seem to be getting a Japanese feed. Not understanding much, but the announcers are unquestionably subdued.
  15. Lindor's start will take a long time to put behind him, but he's at .298 / .431 / .468 // .899 over his last 15 games and .333 / .462 / .619 // 1.081 over his last seven. That's exactly a small a sample size at it seems, but it's sure not nothing. All I ask is that the best part of your season be more or less now.
  16. 2021 was JT Schwartz' redshirt sophomore season, and it was some kind of breakout year, slashing a .396 / .514 / .628 // 1.142 comet of a season. And he slashed that shit in the PAC-12 — one of the four conferences in Division I that is a league apart from the rest of the division. That batting average is seventh- and the on-base percentage second-best in Bruin history. Favorite athletes include Nolan Arenado, Chase Utley, and Kyrie Irving, which makes him a lot better than his ... wait a minute? Did he fucking say "Utley"? [FIMG=600]https://dbukjj6eu5tsf.cloudfront.net/sidearm.sites/uclabruins.com/images/2021/4/18/0057baseball_UTAH_21.jpg[/FIMG] Don't let that photo fool you. He bats lefty.
  17. UCLA shortstop Kevin Kendall becomes the sixth four-year collegian in seven rounds selected by the Mets. No known relation to Jason. Admires Derek Jeter and Tom Brady. Conclusion: total fucking dork. [FIMG=700]https://dbukjj6eu5tsf.cloudfront.net/sidearm.sites/uclabruins.com/images/2019/4/5/Kendall_Kevin_1_012619_DL_71.jpg[/FIMG] Interesting in that the only other non-pitcher the team has selected so far is firstbaseman J.T. Schwartz, also from UCLA.
  18. It's far more interesting to me what message we send by allowing the league to get away with having a bonus pool limit at all. It's utter garbage.
  19. Fucka da slots.
  20. Three pitchers in three rounds, two of them at college graduation age.
  21. =LWFS post_id=71147 time=1626110895 user_id=84]EDIT: A work friend of mine who's plugged into area high school ball/scouting in the area just texted me to say we REALLY missed out not getting funky, funky NJ lefty Solameto (Bishop Eustace HS).
  22. I always thought it silly to allow the runner to first to over-run into fair territory, and then ask the umpire to judge his intent. How hard is it to over-run into foul territory. And what trained athlete wouldn't fire his muscles to explode into a break for the next base as soon as he sees the ball get away. If you do that (and you intuitively should), you'd take at least a half step before judging that the ball is not trickling far enough away for you to make a full break, and then relax before landing the first full step and heading back to first. Yellich was out by letter of the law, but all he did was little more than leaning, which is what anybody would do.
  23. On the one hand, I'm sorry to see the break come just when some of the bats are heating up. On the other hand, this team needs some rest. Pitchers need rest, Alonso needs a rest, Lindor needs a rest. There were so many bats just a few weeks ago, that I'd see them come up in a key situation and think, "Oh, no, not him." I don't think I get that feeling about anybody. Nimmo just grounded into a big double play to take the Mets out of a rally in their last game, and he's been the guy you most want up. Heck, it was his first GiDP all season. If you get four guys swinging well, you're gonna be able to fight it out most nights, and I think they're at a place where they have enough redundancy to expect that many to be on at a given time. I know it's healthy to expect nothing from Syndergaard and Carrasco, but maybe they can help out in the bullpen in the second half. I feel good, though. I feel alive.
  24. Neither of his parents are obscure-but-working actors? Didn't go to Harvard-Westlake? Doesn't have a hyphenated surname that wraps around his shoulders from hip to hip? WHAT'S TO LIKE?!?! Really, Kumar seems like a lovely pick, and one with the closest-to-the-big-leagues tag, but had the Nats gone first and grabbed him, I'd be plenty psyched about Brady House.
