  1. Lefty shefty. Unless McNelt is hurt, hitting for him with Baez at this point is bad strategemery.
  2. Bunt your way into my heart, Mets.
  3. Fun fact: The box score next to the picture is showing the players' stats as of the original date of the game. So Villar just hit his first homer of the season, and Nimmo is batting .421.
  4. Just as the Gelbs report comes in to describe how Villar is more of a defensive hitter as a lefty, Lefty Villar crushes one for the team's first run.
  5. I agree with that. He's kind of painting some abstractions on his canvass and expecting the viewer to give him the benefit of the doubt and is surprised that they're interpreting the abstractions in such a negative way. Maybe this guy has an opinion. [fimg=600]https://ftw.usatoday.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/90/2017/09/screen-shot-2017-09-20-at-10-29-32-am.jpg?w=1000&h=600&crop=1[/fimg]
  6. The "talking about practice" moment was referenced in Ted Lasso, and I had to dial up the original press conference so my wife would understand the context. Man, it felt like Iverson repeated himself for a month.
  7. He hasn't been as sharp this year, though much of that be the challenge of calling games remotely.
  8. But Mookie was the offensive star for the 1980 Tides. I'm on Team Backman on that question. Four years younger and already on-basing like maniac. Funky Fact: The team lead in homers was was shared by three players with five apiece. These included Butch Benton and José Moreno, whose respective slugging percentage of .404 and .403 were the only one on the team over .400. Benton's next big league homer, of course, wil be his first. https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/team.cgi?id=4a23e15dhttps://www.baseball-reference.com/register/team.cgi?id=4a23e15d
  9. It's true. When Richard Todd gave Jets fans the finger, it was, like, their favorite day.
  10. I'm kind of "eh" about this. They're playing poorly and looking for a way to stay motivated, so they're using the negative vibes as fuel. That's fine. It's poorly thought out to turn that into a public campaign, but players can be stupid. The whole churve thing was weird in that it was hitters referencing the grip of a pitcher. He was, in fact, their number five starter and they were making the reference long after he was hurt and unlikely to ever pitch for the Mets again. It also looked like a white power sign. Players can be stupid. It's not like I need a reason to dislike the Baez deal, but his contract is up at the end of the season, which is more than I can say for Robinson Canó. A good leader — whether that's Alderson or Scott or Rojas or Lindor — can make something out of this moment, and a bad leader not so much. We'll see. I'll also add that I'm not sure I understand the advocacy for dumping Pillar.
  11. I can't. But you get 3,007 hits, 502 stolen bases, and 975 strikeouts off of this one. [FIMG=500]https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/RbIAAOSwjgtf727r/s-l400.jpg[/FIMG]
  12. I don't got nothing against mound visits in general. When they come in the midst of a rally, and the pitcher needs a reset, and the defense is gathered around to anticipate where to play and where to throw, there's generally something going on there. There's baseball substance. I just noted the irony of the rule change triggering a meaningful increase in one type of mound visit.
  13. Well may you ask.
  14. =smg58 post_id=75890 time=1630277333 user_id=62] I'm not sure what Lindor's involvement was, but they gave up more than the Yankees did for Rizzo and the Giants did for Bryant for what they are now saying was a half-measure (and got somebody that people will now be happy to see go in two months). And they got no relievers, and Rich Hill was the best they could do for the rotation.

I noticed this, and also mentioned it during an IGT, a couple days ago. And after picking up on the trend, EVERY PH appearance since has triggered a PC visit. Further irony is that twice in the last two days NYM hitters have knocked the first pitch from an incoming reliever over the fence... so maybe these conferences aren't quite as valuable as managers think. And Smitty got an RBI single, though it took four pitches.
  16. Three multiple-run innings in one game. I mean, it's game three of a series against the post-abscission Washington pitching staff, but I'll take it.
  17. God, grant me 20 more games just like this.
  18. Man, it sure is nice to have Villar and Pillar swinging the bat again.

  20. No more pitching to Juan Soto. Winning the game aside, there's a home run title on the line here.
