  1. - I was rooting for Walker to be held at 3rd during his entire dash around the bases. With no outs that was a bad send IMO - just another example of the promise that replay would be used only to overturn blatantly wrong calls is an unworkable ideal - gotta speed those replays up no matter what the call (that you can legislate a time limit with them is another false promise). Umps were 2:34 on headphones plus maybe 45 seconds leading up to it, and if you need that long then don't overturn. - not often you see 3 runs taken off the board in just the first 1-1/2 innings.

Combining them with the black tops could create an embarrassing situation. The D'Backs have a road combo that uses those dark slate grays for both top and bottom.
  3. Yeah, I was just taking a flying leap at ol' Nap - but I couldn't think of anyone else. My only other thoughts were Rocky Colavito (nice player but not statue-worthy or really an Indian long enough) and the Jacobs owner-guy who the stadium was originally named after before they re-dubbed it 'Progressive' in honor of the Bernie Sanders campaign.
  4. Fun trivia question: Name the three players with statues outside Progressive Field. Feller, Lajoie, Doby

  6. As if on cue, Brett Gardner tumbles into the stands catching a foul pop which immediately triggers Michael Kay to bring up the time Jeter made the catch "while flying into the stands".
  7. Orioles perfect season is over: lost 4-2 to Boston last night. Minnesota's (0-8) and Atlanta's (0-8) nightmare starts continue. Braves already 0-5 vs Nats (and now 5-24 for '15-'16) try again this afternoon.
  8. But those were line-up moves, not defensive ones. Without them we'd have faced the bottom 8th with Familia batting 4th that inning or needing to be replaced on a day with a short bench and an over-used pen. As it turned out that spot (De Aza's after the switch) came up with 1 out and 2 on. That ADA lined into an inning-ending DP sucked but it was certainly a prime spot to try and tack on needed runs. The better argument maybe is that Terry jumped the gun with his double switching an inning earlier which then in turn caused the need for the second swap-a-roo. But those first changes allowed Blevins to span two inning while facing three straight LHBs -- Gordon with bases-loaded to end the 7th then Ichiro & Yelich to start the 8th: resulting in two weak flies plus an infield single -- so I'd make the case for both set of moves. The moves that have really had the tongues a-wagging and the pens a-writing* from yesterday's game are Terry's "desperate" pitching gambits: - going right back to injury-plagued big Jim Slade right on the heels of his lengthiest (by pitch count) outing in years - Blevins for his 3rd day in a row - Familia for a 5 out save on his 3rd day in a row and doing so all in a day game after night game during the second week of April while essentially calling the game a 'must-win'. * MLBN talking heads, Vaccaro, Harper

  10. Papa deG to throw a bullpen session on Friday in Cleveland. If that goes well then he'll start on Tuesday in Philly. If not then "we're probably going to have to consider something else" says Terry. IOW: DL http://m.mlb.com/news/article/172088578/mets-hope-jacob-degrom-is-able-to-throw-friday
  11. Zvon wrote: I never saw that play by Wright before! Excellent! Thanks I see that Jeter play like once a week, but I had never seen Wright's. So your point is well taken. Jeter's catch was a very nice one and came during a tense moment of a very exciting game: 2nd & 3rd, 2-outs, 12th inning of a tie vs the Red Sox that the Yanx would go on to win in bottom 13 (July 1, 2004). But on a rating of sheer difficulty and/or spectacular-ness I'm not sure it makes the cut for top-20 into the stands plays just among infielders in 21st century baseball alone. Shit, Nolan Arenado may have 3 or 4 better all by himself and he's still like 17 years old. And even top-20 is assuming you consider it an into the stands play in the first place since, as mentioned, he caught it essentially crossing the foul line and was merely unable to stop. Simply because most members of the sports media only paid attention to baseball games in that era if they involved the Yanx & Sawx doesn't make it the best play or even all that close.
  12. That's two comebacks cleanly fielded by Familia today ... I think that's two over his average.
  13. And yet one more baserunner erased on the paths. And if Gordon didn't want the DP at 2nd he had the option of going for Cespedes trapped off 1st too.

  15. How shift-venerable the hitters seem to be has me worried.

  17. It says something that it took until our 3rd hit of the day w/RiSP before scoring the 1st run(s).
  18. Jeez, bases-loaded/no-outs ... even WE could have scored off that set-up!! Well, occasionally anyway

  20. Even when three hits come in the same inning no runs are scored.
  21. Met bats have kinda/sorta have gotten a couple balls out of the infield thru 3 innings/9 hitters.
  22. Lefty starter, cold bats, DGANG = lineup changes
  23. And yet our shit-rollers never go for hits.

  25. Is it my imagination or is that like the 35th slow-roller hit against us so far this season? Either slow-rollers, slow-choppers, in-betweers, soft-bloopers, or other assorted pieces-'o-shit.
