  1. I was wondering when Cashner's gig as roadie for the Tedeschi/Trucks Band resumed.
  2. OK, one more replay rant. Who da fuck wanted to review that last play?!? Not only was the play not that close, but the Pads had already used their challenge, and if this one challenge per game/per team limit isn't going to mean anything then what's it there for? P.S. and switching the channel just in time to see Pedroia smack a 2R HR and the Box lead 2-0 two batters into the game.
  3. That was a FUGLY game, but ultimately satisfying.
  4. Forget Schaefer, Antonio is getting hisself a big ol' helping of personally brewed beer for that outing. [fimg=300:fd5j6adx]http://www.politicsandbeer.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/Stone_Arrogant_Bastard_Ale.jpg[/fimg:fd5j6adx]
  5. Cubs had a runner thrown out at home in the 11th -- so now they're in the 12th.
  6. R & G are giving too much credit to Wilmer's throw. Sorry guys but two-hopping it from barely beyond the infield dirt is not a good throw.
  7. Gary (paraphrasing): "Ron, it's looking more and more like umpires are becoming reluctant to overturn calls unless there's overwhelming evidence" Me: "GOOD!!!"
  8. Yogi (reportedly) said: "it ain't over till it's over". Nowadays it's not even over when it's over.
  9. Nats & Cubs going to the 11th at the Friendly Confines.
  10. "Ya gotta have the gluteus" may not have quite the cache of Ted Williams's "Always get a good pitch to hit" as far as words of wisdom concerning hitting philosophy goes, but it does have a nice ring to it.
  11. Big article on Mitch in the NY Times today. Has been battling some serious health concerns recently but is on the mend.
  12. So I started the game on about a 20 minute delay while doing the gradual catch-up thing so was still about 10 minutes in arrears at the HR. Two things came to mind. 1) When George Foreman was making his comeback (which started in his late '30s), one that was treated as a novelty at first and still as a long-shot even as he (re)climbed the ladder towards a title shot. When he finally got into a title match and pulled out a stunning knockout, the call (must have been from Jim Lampley) was simply "It Happened" That was the phrase that jumped into my mind. 2) Bartolo was mom's last favorite player; she usually picked one. In recent years it went from Ike, then to R.A., and then, after those two were exiled, she picked out Colon. Like a lot of folks, I think she just got a kick out of the goofy nonchalantness he projects. Anyway, being a west coast game she might not have been awake for this one live, but she would have gotten a kick out of it.
  13. Fewer HRs than Bart this year: - Chase Headley (73 ABs, $13 million) - Darin Ruf (56 ABs) - Justin Turner (92) - Juan Lagares (40) - Howie Kendrick (69) - Jason Heyward (95) - Dee Gordon (even with all that help) - Francisco Cervelli (90) - both Rickie & Jemile Weeks (72 ABs combined) - most of the Braves roster (including Markakis, Francoeur, etc.) In fairness to Justin Turner, he also HR'd today so he's actually tied with Bartolo at 1. Needless to say there's a bunch of others who have one for the season also including the likes of Ryan Zimmerman.
  14. 15. I know it's also Kentucky Derby Day today, but Bart's HR trot, now THAT'S the most exciting two minutes in sports!
  16. Nice to see a clean and relatively low pitch-count inning from Jerry Family. Haven't been too many of those this year.
  17. Carlos Villanueva = Charlie Newtown Also = victim here tonight.
  18. Edgy MD wrote: It doesn't burn us after all. Heckuva challenge pitch from Reed. Good inning overall by Reed. Got beat by a couple of soft singles. And, the flip side of NOT having the defensive change is that Conforto would have been out of the lineup.
  19. Gary & Ron talked earlier about Terry NOT making the double switch to get Lagares in. I tend to agree w/Terry that it was too early/risky to do it then, but I hope this doesn't burn us here as you'd have to think that Juan would have pocketed that one.
  20. NYM bats (via their incompetence) seem determined to make the Bartolo runs stand up as the margin.
  21. Nice spelling tweak.
  22. Zvon wrote: Zvon wrote: Wow, that was a [crossout]ballsy[/crossout] stupid send by Tueffel. The way we aren't scoring? Cabrera isn't the fastest and that low ground view did make it look stupid, but I wanted him to try. Not when the shortstop has the ball just as Cabrera is only a stride past 3B. I probably wouldn't have sent him with two outs and definitely not with only one.
  23. Zvon wrote: HA! Cabrera didn't even try to touch home plate afterwards. Awww man. We don't know if that was the reason for the non-reversal or not - but it's just another flaw in the whole system. He didn't touch the plate afterward because he was called out and it's simply not logical to play the game as if each call made needs to be ignored like it never happened.
