  1. Cards take the lead on a Sac Fly. Belt up to face StL closer Oh to start bottom 9

  6. And suck on THAT one west coast scoreboard watchers!!!

But he's such a huge fan, he said so during the interview part earlier in the game. Don't dis Kevin James. He was doing publicity for another movie and was scheduled to take batting practice at Yankee Stadium. He was given a Yankee uni but refused to wear it. If that story is accurate then good on him and good on him again for staying through the 12th inning on this one.
  8. Cubs lost their 54th game today. That means they'd need to run the table to match the '86 NYM record of 108-54 which hasn't been reached by an NL team since. Maybe we should be like that '72 Dolphins team who break out the champagne every time the final team has their perfect season wrecked in the NFL. I know I'm willing to drink to it.

  10. I think somebody needs to make a resolution to hit one off this Tonkin guy. see what I did there?
  11. Nice inning by Edgin. That's only his 3rd complete inning he's thrown this year and the first one in a game that wasn't already a blowout when he came in. And now the heart of the order is up. If this game doesn't end now, the west coast games are going to end before this one does. Giants leading in the 8th; Dodgers over DBacks in the 9th.
  12. Guy pitched Reyes tough. Kept it far enough away from him that he couldn't keep it fair, then busted him inside. Bad luck earlier on that Plawecki smash - both that the pitcher got a piece of it and then the way it bounced. Thought that one was going to end it.

It took 11 pitches just to get Mauer for the final out. Yes, but that also means it took him 14 just to get the first two outs and with each of the last two hitters he faced he got to 3-2 and all those extra throws after getting ahead of the hitters, which is something that been an emerging pattern with him far too often during the second half of the season. Not that I'm saying it's a critical flaw or anything, but it's a large contrast particularly when they come on the heels of the efficiency of most of Reed's innings.

  19. Fman99 wrote: Forced to listen to the Twinks radio team as XM is barfing on the Howie/Josh call. These guys are surprisingly pleasant for a road radio team. Most other broadcast teams are insipid but these guys are giving equal talk time to both squads and not descending into who-cares-ness. The Twins TV booth is pretty good too. I forget the p-b-p man but Bert Blyleven is a hoot. He started a thing years ago where he 'circles' random fans with his tele-strator so, at home games, fans will bring signs to the game saying, 'Hey Bert, Circle Me!!, and once or twice per game he'll do just that.
  20. A Kevin Plawecki sighting!! His first ML game since June 19 even though he was recalled nearly three weeks ago.
  21. Giving FMan time to catch up .... OK now! Even more so than Jay Bruce, Conforto has been 0-2 or maybe 1-2 in seemingly every AB since about the 1st of May and the results become pretty predictable after that.
  22. bmfc1 wrote: Nothing against TJ Rivera but is Terry falling in love with the him and going L/R/L/R at the expense of Kelly Johnson, a better hitter? KJ seems to have fallen into the trap where he's been so good in the off the bench role that his manager wants to keep him there. Not so sure that's a cause and effect assumption you want to follow too far. Hey, check it out, a baserunner!!!
  23. So at this point we've gotten 121 starts from the season opening 'Starting Five' with another five or six still to come (We Hope!!) for Colon & Syndergaard plus maybe one or two from Matz - so let's call it 127 or 78% of the total 162 and 35 starts/22% from 'others'. That, viewed in isolation, is actually not so terrible and certainly teams, including NYM teams, have had worse seasons that that. The big problem is that the supposed #6, normally the first guy to turn to once someone goes out, was able to provide nothing and also that, rather than seeing the injuries one at a time, they came in bunches during the second half of the year. This meant that not only does the 7th starter get pressed into service but so do #s 8, 9, and maybe even 10, and all at the same time to the point where they're comprising 3/5 of the rotation during the stretch run and, Gulp!, the playoffs.
  24. Amazing how posts here go from 'Confirmed for Sunday' to 'Out for Season' inside an hour. At least it's not a structural problem I suppose, although nerve surgery can never be regarded as a Good thing.
