  1. Wouldn't have put much cash on Snell outlasting Nola after that 2nd inning, but he not only did but even lasted long enough to get the W
  2. So the Pads answer back by hitting the 2nd & 3rd pitches of the inning out of the park (Drury & Bell) and it's quickly 4 - 2
  3. Following a 1-2-3 six-pitch 1st inning, Blake Snell is getting dinked to death by the Phils in the 2nd: soft single, soft single, soft single, K, sun-aided double, soft single, GO (but bobbled so no GiDP), FO 37 pitches, 4 - 0 heading to bottom 2nd Nola pitching for Philly and Nola catching for SDP
  4. At least they figured out a way to get a post-season game completed in under 3 hours: have the teams combine for 2 runs on 4 hits and 3 BBs (and 20 Ks) with no mid-inning pitching changes -- 2:43
  5. Jose Alvarado (Philly's hot-headed lefty) on to protect a 2 run lead in bottom 9th
  6. And the Phils go to the pen for the 8th despite Wheeler's dominance [1 H, 1 BB thru 7] Seranthony Dominguez on to face the bottom of the order.
  7. In real time now. Still 2 - 0, bottom 8 Padres have lifted Darvish and are into thei pen (Nick Martinez)
  8. Watching via tape delay and have almost caught up to real time (about 15 minutes behind at this point). Currently 2 - 0 Phils on solo HRs by Harper (barely) and Schwarber (seriously) heading to bottom six. Darvish v Wheeler (a very efficient one hitter).
  9. And now it's been called off and rescheduled for a 4:07 first pitch on Tuesday. ALCS is scheduled to begin on Wednesday night in Houston.
  10. 2-1/2 hours after the scheduled first pitch and they're still in a "rain delay". I understand all the reasons why they want to get tonight's game in tonight, but at sone point you've got to say that this isn't going to happen.
  11. He's opting out for more money of course. But mainly it's for the extended time. This may be his last contract so he'd like to get as many total dollars as possible, iow, years at least as important as AAV. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Because I think his best days are behind him. I'm not so sure about that. He's younger and with fewer miles on him than Scherzer, not to mention cleaner mechanics. I mean, sure, we likely won't see the likes of 2018-19 again but we may be collectively guilty here of recency bias; that his last three starts weren't vintage so this is what he now is. But even his great years had similar hiccups (remember him getting battered by the Twins?) which turned out to Not be the end of the world.
  12. With their fans booing Judge.
  13. And Cleveland goes out on 7 pitches so they'll settle this tomorrow in da Bronx.
  14. Last chance for the [CROSSOUT]seriously, I just used a racist word when I really meant "Guardians"[/CROSSOUT] Guard Dogs ... at least until tomorrow.
  15. 4 - 2 Yanx end of 8 Cole went 7 (would he if D. Roberts were managing?) Guardians have one inning to send the Yanx home. Yanx have one to force a winner-take-all in the Bronx tomorrow night.
  16. So it's not like LAD mgr Dave Roberts is a stranger to being questioned about his quick starter hooks in the post-season. Yesterday's game (which I didn't see) just adds to the pile as Tyler Anderson -- 15 - 5 / 2.57 during the season -- is pulled after 5 innings and a (somewhat high) 86 pitches while pitching a 2-hit shutout. This meant that the Dodgers pen, in this case: Chris Martin, Tommy Kahnle, Yency Almonte, Alwx Versia, and Evan Phillips, had to see if they could protect their 2-run (later 3) lead for 4 innings. Only Phillips pitched a clean inning and that was in the 9th inning after the dam had already burst. Kahnle, Almonte & Vesia combined to record 3 outs while allowing 5 runs on 5 hits and 2 walks. Maybe those relievers are better than I know but I'd have a huge problem if my manager followed a similar strategy in an elimination game.
  17. I'm very disappointed that Cleveland CF Myles Straw isn't from Wichita like his brother Jack. 3-2 Yanx, top 6 as the Guardians are about to lose their second of two challenges on plays that never should have been challenged. And they do.
  18. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=111385 time=1665934472 user_id=68] 'Rosenthal: Too soon to cite new format as reason for MLB postseason upsets" (From The Athletic).
  19. Tough series for the M's Game #1 -- lose on a 2-out/3R walk-off Game #2 -- lose a late lead via a HR by the same guy Game #3 -- lose 1 - 0 in 18 But at least they reached the post-season (even a dumbed-down one) for the first time in 21 years and then advanced a round.
  21. Holy shit! Bottom 15th and still Scoreless In Seattle.
  22. Frayed Knot wrote: Things not looking very good for a repeat championship. 22 different champions in a row now. That's true at least to the extent that there have been no back-to-back (or even belly-to-belly) Champs. There have been 15 different franchises win the last 22 trophies starting from the 2000 season. The NFL who, as we all know, has much greater parity due to their rigid salary cap, has had a whopping 13 different teams hoist the Lombardi since 2000.
  23. Willets Point wrote: The way I see it, the Pennant and the World Series champions are awards for two different things. The Pennant is the award for sustained excellence over the regular season by winning the most games, or at least it was from 1876 to 1968. I think it should be restored as the award. But they're not really two separate things since one always flows from the other. I mean, I get it, we can call the Dodgers the 'NL Pennant Winner', but once the end of the regular season no longer meant the end of NL or AL competition or entry into the WS, having the league's best record no longer means the same thing even if we decide to call it that. And the Euro football tourneys are very separate thing run by different organizations based on the previous year's stadings. Not a great analogy jn my mind.
  24. =roger_that post_id=111343 time=1665870245 user_id=128] OK, you get my main point--the BYE is extremely valuable, but you're questioning its usefulness on the small handful of games so far? You don't think there's maybe a LARGE chance that you're overreacting to that small number of games? You're a smart guy. You know better than that. You're responding emotionally to a question you need to think through logically.
