  1. He tried to walk Taylor but Taylor wouldn't let him either.
  2. Why throw a strike when you don't need to?
  3. Lead-off runner on ... which means our run scoring chances just went down.

  5. A walk and three soft grounders = bases loaded and one out. And then the one ball they hit hard ends the inning with no damage. 'It just goes to show you Suzyn, you can't predict baseball!'
  6. We're very good today at FOs to RF Still not even a whiff of a hit.
  7. Paul Skenes in his ML debut, gave up his first run on a HR to Nico Hoerner with one out in the 4th. He then got pulled after giving up hits to the first two batters in the 5th and eventually got charged with those runs as well. So 3 ER on 6 hits, 2 BBs, 7 Ks and a rather hefty 84 pitches. Pirates had a 6-1 lead. It's now 6-6 and in a rain delay.
  8. Four hits + Four BBs in 14 innings.
  9. Speaking of traitorous Braves, that team seems to be stacking their broadcast crew with former short-term Mets. I don't think there's any intent on their part since all have longer-term Atlanta connections, but their rotating lineup now includes the recently retired Collin McHugh who joins the likes of Jeff Francouer, Tom Glavine, and, on the radio side, Kelly Johnson. How did they let Greg McMichael slide by without at least an audition?
  10. They have five hits and we've got nothing resembling a hit. That might be at least partially responsible for the 0-3 hole.

I was surprised too by Oquendo being as 'high' as 4% but Whitey used him there for a while so he played a lot more 1B than did Super Joe. I knew Mantle played SS in the minors but I couldn't remember if he did in the majors also. Turns out he did, three times. Played all four IF positions as it turns out plus all three OF spots so that's something to store away in the memory banks. Never pitched or caught.
  12. The fun part about these is trying to think up guys in positions they weren't know for playing such as Mantle at 1B (in the final year of his career) or Mays at SS (which he did for part of a 23 inning game vs the Mets) Those two wound up adding up to less than 1% Rarity = 9 MVP/SS -- Willie Mays 0.7% MVP/500HR -- Frank Robinson 4% MVP/GG -- Jonnhy Bench 2% 1B/SS -- Jose Oquendo 4% 1B/500HR -- Mike Schmidt 2% 1B/GG -- Mickey Mantle 0.2% 40WAR/SS -- Nomar Garciaparra 3% 40WAR/500HR -- Eddie Mathews 2% 40WAR/GG -- Ivan Rodriguez 2%
  13. Papa Jeff Burroughs still living at just 73, so he could be around for a long while still. I remember Sean as a top prospect right around the time the internet was making it easier to discover and track top prospects. He was going to be the BA & OBA guy who would buck the trend of Power! Power! Power! that was dominating in the late '90s/early 2000's But then his BA & OBA turned out to be nothing special all while he managed to knock just 12 career HRs in about three full seasons' worth of ML ABs scattered across seven different years. Jeez, 43!?!
  14. So other than that 10-pitch sequence in the 3rd inning Mrs. Lincoln, how did you enjoy the game? Looks like I picked the wrong weekend to try quitting drinking vodka out of a funnel.
  15. Well, tying run at the plate.
  16. Caught a foul pop while flopping onto the 3B tarp.
  17. I may be off by a couple on that count. But, hey, we looked good that inning, huh?
  18. Two out, a three run lead, and Nimmo's arm, I would have sent Riley.
  19. The Yanx managed to hold Tampa bats at bay in the opening game of their series [2-0], something our guys failed at miserably [20 RA in 3 games]

Tonight is his 7th of this year. iow, he's made every single fuckin' start from age 34 thru 40! while pitching to a 3.54 ERA (21% better than lg average). And the Mets look like they've never seen him before. You think they would have learned how to hit him by now. 1) Not the point 2) Morton's ERA vs the Mets for his career is only marginally better than his overall mark
  21. Two hits thru six, one of which left the infield. But at least we only have seven strikeouts vs one walk.

  23. I can't believe we slid out of that hole. The downside is that Quintana's pitch count is currently up to 147 thru 4 IPs
  24. No chance of [CROSSOUT]that [/CROSSOUT] those two missed outs coming back to bite us, eh?
  25. HR, HR, BB, HR after two outs, none on, and 2 strikes. Will the Mets have 3 HRs in this series?
