  1. It's the weekly, 'Johan is pitching so we can take the day off' theory of hitting. If the boy ever got run support I don't know if he'd know what to do with it.
  2. Reasonable lineup. - Reward the bench guy off his big moment while not really hurting the defense w/fly ball Johan out there - Reward Castillo for hitting well lately (11 of his last 21) by moving him up - and now suddenly 7-9 looks a lot more formidable Rumor had it that Tatis was going to [u:ba6886abfd]get a start at 2B[/u:ba6886abfd] today but this isn't the time for taking Luis out even though we do have to get Fernando some ABs soon.
  3. Hernandez - 1.0 Green - 0.7 Parnell - 0.5 Putz - 0.5 Feliciano - 0.2 Castillo - 2.0 Reyes - 1.0 Delgado - 1.6 Castro - 1.0 Sheffiled - 1.5
  4. GYC wrote: Shame on the fans in attendance for giving that shithead Sheffield a curtain call. Sickening. I was def more jazzed over the fact that it tied the game than I was about any 500th stuff. Plus I think there was barely a ground-swell for a curtain-call. More like Sheffield (who was obviously enjoying the moment) reacted to the still-buzzing crowd and took one anyway. I'm sure there were some fans who wanted one (hell, they've been conditioned to expect one for almost every HR) but it's not like the crowd was going to grow restless - a la Beltran 4 years ago - if he didn't take one.
  5. Can we please not play the 'let's score multiples in the 1st inning but never again' game tonight?
  6. ="PiggiesTomatoes":1d5bb52o]I thought the son-in-law was bounced from management once GSS's daughter filed for divorce???[/quote:1d5bb52o] This is son-in-law #3. For years while the brothers were uninterested in having anything to do with the team, older sister's hubby (Joe Molloy) was the guy slated to run things ... then she divorced him. Then the other sister's spouse was anointed as heir-apparent (Steve Swindal) ... then they went splitsville right after he got caught DWI on Valentine's Day at about 4AM). So now this new guy in the mix (Lopez) is first daughter's second husband. Hope you got all that straight cuz there'll be a quiz later. G-Fafif Apr 17 2009 06:22 PM I hear the Yankees suck and Matthews is a tool. OlerudOwned Apr 17 2009 06:53 PM http://www.theonion.com/content/news/mr_met_having_trouble_sleeping_in seawolf17 Apr 21 2009 11:07 AM Look! Wally's picking on the Yankees now! http://www.topix.net/forum/source/newsday/T6ABCQABNDESHS3O8 Well, maybe not. He's picking on Jason Giambi, blaming him exclusively for the MFY's failure to win a WS. Never mind the 209 home runs he hit, or the .900 postseason OPS, or the fact that the REAL thing that all those 2001-2008 seasons have in common are Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, and Mike Mussina, all of whom escape Wally's clutches. (Ignore Jeet's .800 OPS in the postseason since 2001, or Mussina's 5-7 postseason record as a Yankee. It's all Giambi's fault.) Dickhead. Vic Sage Apr 21 2009 11:44 AM ]In truth, there's only one appropriate name for this ballpark -- The House That George Built. In truth, when a German industrialist erects an architectural tribute to the greatness of his folk and the glory of its past, there's only one appropriate name for it -- Nuremberg. G-Fafif Apr 21 2009 12:03 PM I'm a little confused as to why Wally didn't use the occasion of Giambi's visit to blame the Mets for ruining the Yankees by being too cheap to sign him and thus preserve the integrity of the only dynasty New York had to rely on.
  7. Meet DJ Chunky Hate to tell you dude, but the new wider seats aren't THAT wide.
  8. 100' x 60' (I think that's what I heard)
  9. I heard speculation (MLBN, I think) that the Brews are considering skipping Soup-bone on Sunday due to his horrid outings to date. Seems a little quick for a team short on hurlers as it is and I'm not sure who'd go in his place if they do.
  10. ]I would think that is standard operating procedure Especially for guys who live across the country. I'm still wondering (and will never find out) how much George had to pay Yogi to get him to "forgive" past sins and return to the Yanqui "family". Always struck me as more than a bit of a coincidence that Yogi's return was right around the time he was starting up that whole museum/side business thing (come see my new tribute to me -- contributions welcome). It was also right at the time that George needed an icon to trot out during big games & events seeing as how Mantle had just died, the always-prickly DiMag was on his last legs, and funny Phil just wasn't a big enough name even after the rigged HoF vote.
  11. O'Day - 0.5 Feliciano - 0.5 Stokes - 0.5 Rodriguez - 0.6 Delgado - 3.0 Castro - 2.0 Castillo - 0.7 Church - 0.7 Reyes - 0.25 Murphy - 0.25
  12. duan wrote: what's troubling is really that the mets 3,4,5 & 6 hitters have got off to pretty torrid starts ... that should be a sign of winning team, not a losing one. Really everyone except Schneider is hitting at least decently if not better. Reyes has been just so-so while getting his walks (though several outs made on the basepaths haven't helped) but Castillo's got a .450-ish OBA making one wonder about the proposed lineup with him up top. Non-regulars aren't helping with their 3-for-33 clip and there have certainly been those 1-for-12 w/RiSP nights.
  13. I know the Carlos/Willie stuff makes for good copy, if for no other reason than because his turn-around (more or less) coincided with the managerial change. But let's review now that Delgado has three full seasons in the book: - He was real good during year 1 plus the back half of year 3 - and not-so-good during year 2 and the front half of year 3 about 80% of that time were Willie games. So does anybody really think he was either slumping because of Willie, or that he was tanking it in order to get rid of him? ... particularly seeing as how neither one of which does himself any good.
  14. When are these fans going to learn to leave balls-in-play alone?
  15. ]... the Fransisco FC is the Miller Lite Turning Point. What happened on that play? All hands safe on sac bunt try.
  16. Mostly it was the relievers I believe. And in a nod to the current score, Ronan Tynan is today singing 'Taps' for the 7th inning stretch.
  17. I'm sorry, I meant to say 10-1 Life's just so complicated when HRs are flying out of the yard as fast as you can type them.
  18. 9-1 seriously, I just used a racist word when I really meant "Guardians" - courtesy of a Grady Sizemore GS ('mongst other stuff).
  19. ="Centerfield"]Maybe that's the problem. I like bigger busts. ... and he can not lie. ]Thinking back to my days in Joe Ellner's basement, [underwear basketball] might have been my best sport also. TMI
  20. metirish wrote: Maybe I missed it but was the first game at Citi Field "historic" in the way that this game is been written as? To Howie & Gary and the audience they're talking to, yes. The problem with the YSIII stuff is the attitude that whatever happens there is historic to not only MFY fans but also to the Stock Exchange, to the guy who runs the McDonalds in Boise, and to starving kids in Biafra.
  21. M. Kay is noting every "first" at the new stadium short of first nose-picking in the stands.
  22. ]Are the throngs so large at Touch that they need the blue rope to keep people in line? OK who (besides me) read that as thongs so large that they need the blue rope ... ?
  23. Reportedly they're going to but didn't want to start doing so immediately until the place got a few weeks under its belt and they had a better idea of how the foot traffic goes etc.
  24. ="Benjamin Grimm"]What the Mets should do:
  25. ] ... we don't have room to do busts like we did before Because lord knows how much room those things take up.
