  1. I agree. At 25 by ST, Duda's not young but neither is he particularly old and with only 300 AAA ABs under his belt it's not like another 1/2 year will cause him to rot down there. And there's enough that he can work on and/or refine that'll keep him busy. And maybe HE is part of trade bait over the winter. btw, if you type in 'DUDA' into the search at BBRef.com you get 7 additional entries in addition to Lucas (all minor leaguers) as well as one guy named Dudas. That's about 7 more than I expected as I expected that simple entry to take me directly to him.

  3. Obviously the light never came on for Edison Volquez today. Still 4-0 thru five. No-hitter for Halladay tho no perfecto (1 walk).
  4. Centerfield wrote: It's official. CPF = As gay as Tony Randall. And we're not going to stop until we've at least reached the Truman Capote level. After that we shoot for Liberace.

Soriano's 209 hits in 2002 was one better than Ichiro and three better than Vlad Guerrero. 2002 - ALFONSO SORIANO 2005 - MICHAEL YOUNG 2008 - DUSTIN PEDROIA (tie) Still waiting on the guy whose big year came hitting in front of a future Met. I wanted to guess Soriano form the start but was afraid to. FK's "can't walk" clue plus, "different position" made it easy. Juan Pierre hit in front of a future Met, I think that's the guy, yes? Check the board, Pierre's already been guessed (and shot down). The Met who the final guy once 'hit in front of' is not a current Met.
  6. Odd game so far: 13 hits (9 for Tex) with 16 Ks (8 each) thru just 5-1/2 Key is just one hit off Lee since he gave up singles to the 1st, 3rd & 4th hitters he faced - but then got out of it with 2 consecutive Ks. 5-0 stRangers
  7. Pierre led the NL twice but neither time had the most in MLB And now that I looked that one up I saw the missing answers and I wouldn't have gotten either with a whole bunch of guesses. Think about good-hitting non-walkers folks.
  8. No, [u:1ws7th7b]everything[/u:1ws7th7b] is now a dead ball if it hits any part of any catwalk. Prior to that the ruling varied depending on which ring was hit and where. HR Molina 4-0 Texas
  9. Edgy DC wrote: Jerry was nuts. Mebbe. Like I said, we never got a chance to see for ourselves. He could be OK there for all I know. But virtually every ball that gets past him in the OF (particularly RF) is one extra base beyond what it would normally be and even the stuff hit at him is an extra base for whatever runners are on. I've never seen an arm (or lack thereof) like his. Bernie Williams would be a 1000% improvement.
  10. MLB (I assume it was them who ordered this) has changed the ground rules in Tampa's dome for the post-season. The catwalk 'rings' above the playing field used to be in play as long as they were hit in fair territory (dead ball if hit in foul). But now everything is a dead ball no matter which ring is hit or where it's hit.
  11. (working off the hint) Juan Pierre
  12. Nelson Cruz says, "let's make that 3-0"
  13. Not suggesting that Carter need be jettisoned entirely. But he is a train-wreck out there and needs to start as seldom as possible - like twice maybe thrice a month seldom. Maybe he can play 1B, I don't know. Jerry seemed to think that that was too risky; "too close to the ball" he claimed.
  14. Nine hits combined thru two innings off the aces. Lee has escaped in part thanks to getting 5 of his 6 outs via Ks - two of them w/bases loaded in the 1st 2-0 Texas on rib-eyes by in-season acquisitions Francoeur and B. Molina
  15. You waited Met fans for a year like that For fate to turn to your side Your team until then was the league doormat Til Cashen made them bona fide Bon-a-fide Straw was eighteen, Hernandez was seventeen Baby, those were the days Wally and Lenny setting the table Making their pitchers pay
  16. Fear Carter's glove (and arm). Be afraid. Be very afraid.
  17. David Wright strike-outs that offend the senses Jose hitting pop-ups while he swings for the fences Free agent pitchers with their arms in a sling These are a few of my least favorite things
  18. Full Sked: Wed - @ Minn - 8:37 PM Thur - @ Minn - 6:07 PM Sat - @ NY - 8:37 PM * Sun - @ NY - TBA * Tues - @ Minn - TBA Game 1 = CC Sabathia vs Francisco Liriano - Twins have faced the Yanx three times in the first playoff rounds over the last decade (2003, 2004, 2009) and lost 3-0, 3-1, 3-1 - and during the regular season they lost 4 of 6 this season and are 9-21 since 2006. - Yanx have said that AJ Burnett will not pitch (or at least start) and that theyll go with Sabathia on short rest in Game 4. - Yanx starters ERA since August 1st = 5.32, [u:2v63g37y]by far the worst in the AL[/u:2v63g37y]. Take out Sabathias ~3.20 over that time and it would look a whole lot worse. - Justin Morneau has been declared done for the year and will not play in any post-season games

  20. I hate the built-in extra day off. Id like to see the first round played with either one or even zero days off, but while two is acceptable three is horrid. Eight days to play five games changes the nature of how the game is played all year. In this case the NL gets one series with the extra day off and Philly, having the best record, got first choice if they wanted it or not. Naturally they took it and will only have to use 3 pitchers even if it goes the whole 5 games. You're right: baseball is played on every Friday and Saturday all season long until the first round of the playoffs when one league has Friday off and the other has Saturday off. And, as you said, the benefit of a deeper rotation is lost. It's not even which days of the week the off days fall on, it's just that there's too many of them. The main culprit is, of course, TV. To hold four separate series without tweaking them the way they do would cause all four to be played on the same day at least once and MLB certainly doesn't want games overlapping each other to further dilute the viewership nor do the networks who pay all that money for the exclusivity factor. The other thing is that once they went to the Wild Card system there became the perceived need to not only give the higher ranked team home field advantage (as opposed to the previous random system) but also to never have the lower team have the advantage for even a moment during the series. That in turn led to one extra travel day in a five game series as they moved to a 2-2-1 split from the previous 2-3 At least they've yanked the extra day out of the LCS series this year and next season they've changed the starting and ending days of the season in order to begin the playoffs on a (in their opinion) more favorable time in the week.

  22. Amazing what tumbling attendance and bad public image will do for customer service campaigns.
  23. An In-Series Thread for the two team who start things off tomorrow at 1:30 EDT And you know you're listening to ESPN radio when the update guy says that the 'Major League Baseball 2010 Tournament' starts tomorrow. Almost surprised that he didn't say that baseball is finally down to the Elite Eight or who the head coaches had named as starters. 24. Gardenhire seems to put on his dumb hat whenever playing the Yanx. That's probably an unfair view - and the fact that Joe Nathan always folded up his tent at the sight of pinstripes certainly didn't help - but I'm sticking to it anyway.
  25. The worst black mark against Ryan was waiving David Ortiz just before he exploded into a monster.
