  1. I was going to suggest maybe a small hand broom for the mini-sweep.
  2. Tim Byrdak: Efficiency Expert
  3. Gee just upped his bunting grade from a Dee to a Cee with that one.
  4. Edgy DC wrote: I guess. Still don't make me feel like the randy young hotshot I otherwise know myself to be. And now that I think about it, the two guys I've heard on FAN* to read those ads (Howie & Steve Somers) are both Jewish so there may be some further audience-targeting in their method. * Maybe other FAN jocks doing the live reads also, but SS & HR are the only ones I've heard.
  5. When an announcer talks about Livan "approaching the upper '70s" you don't always know whether he's talking about: his pitch count, the radar gun, or his age.
  6. Edgy DC wrote: Is that what it was? Howie pitched it directly. My team's advertisers seem to be aiming older and older. Depressing. Those ads are all over WFAN, not just NYM games. I think they're trying to appeal to the kids of those who need the apartments.
  7. Yup. Pitchers never get pulled because of lineup issues (part of what made the Mariano short stint even odder) and the only way teams do run into lineup crunches is in odd circumstances like last night when a batter takes a fastball to the face after all the subs are spent and then the pitcher who throws it is ejected. O's used [u:177s1qi1]Nine[/u:177s1qi1] different hurlers last night.
  8. BA Notes: Mets low Class A third baseman Aderlin Rodriguez already has 11 errors in 36 games. Theres no mystery there, though: If hes going to be a big league regular, his bat is going to have to carry him. Yet Rodriguez, 19, is hitting just .208/.255/.429 for Savannah. Rodriguez was terrific yesterday though, going 2-for-4 with two home runs, his fourth dinger in the last week. With nine home runs already, Rodriguez is a legitimate slugger, its just a matter of getting more polish at the plate in time.
  9. Edgy DC wrote: It's goot that the Yankees have to be thrown victories these days anyhow. Sure, although they missed their share of chances too. In all some wacky stuff in that game and I only saw parts of it. - O's chances: Got the leadoff runner on in the 10th; then got him on again in the 11th which turned into bases-loaded/1 out; in the 12th the first two made outs but then they loaded the bases; got the leadoff guy on again in the 13th and eventually left two on; actually went out in order in the 14th; put 2-on with 1 out in the 15th (now down by 3) and then had a clear single hit the runner going from 1st which would have loaded them up again. - ARod was almost the defensive goat for the 2nd time in a week but a great play by Teixeira saved both the error and the game. - Had the game gone on the Yanx would have lost their DH after losing their last position player due to a HBP and forcing DH Jeter into the field. - Colon was pulled with a 3-hit shutout and only 87 pitches under his (ample) belt. - Mariano not only blew the save but did so and finished the inning on just 9 pitches. Even so they did not bring him back for the 10th - Yanx got 2 on in the 12th and 3 on in the 13th (w/1 out) but didn't score either time I imagine Buck Showalter relishes beating them, thinks all Torre's championships should have been his, and will demand his players go after them with full vigor. He certainly doesn't look or talk like he feels all warm and fuzzy to his former org and certainly didn't look it last night. He even called out Jeter earlier in the year for trying to get balls called by jumping out of the way of not-very inside pitches.
  10. Niese - 4.7 Isringhausen - 0.3 Rodriguez - 0.3 Turner - 2.2 Reyes - 1.4 Hairston - 0.9 Bay - 0.2
  11. Man, the Os just invented ways to lose this game. Could have been bases-loaded w/one out ... but NOOOOO, the runner gets clipped by a sure single and it's 2-outs/2-on instead. And the fly out ends the game.
  12. Two more RiSP outs for the Yanx in the 14th (Jeter & Granderson GOs) Both teams now are like 2 for 20-something combined in this game. It's like two entire lineups of Jason Bays out there!
  13. 13 innings, 21 hits, 2 runs. Yanx get hit to start the 14th (22 hits now). It's like a rule in this game that the leadoff guy has to get on ... and then not score.
  14. Marlins lost to Cubbies 7-5 Braves out in the desert down 2-0 to the Snakes in the 5th Things tightening up in the NL East
  15. Yanx w/1st & 3rd no one out fail to score in top 12 Great watching ARod bitch about strike 3 to him which was absolutely a strike. Captain Clutch has ended several innings himself w/runners on.
  16. O's have left the bags loaded a couple innings in a row here (and like 8 LOBs in the last 3 innings) and now they're trying to get the Yanx to do the same.
  17. Hey, I've got a good idea, let's NOT bring the tying run to the plate!
  18. Phils win 2-1 over Rox as Madson Ks Giambi with 2-on in the 9th. O's tally one against Mariano after Colon tossed an 8-inning 3-hit shutout. 1-1 heading for 10th
  19. OK, time to call this game
  20. We need one more out here and we need it NOW!!!!
  21. I'm gonna break out the hats and hooters since Jose came home. Justin Turner is a red-headed God!!
  22. Got the leadoff guy on. Now just one more and we can leave them both on.
  23. Gutsy play by Muffy
  24. Hey, next inning we should try to leave two men on or something -- 8 LOBsters thru 5 innings.

So here's my version of a calendar year as seen by national TV/radio sports geeks: August - NFL Training Camps plus daily updates from Brett Favre's front lawn September - NFL Football and the beginning of NCAA football October - NFL Football, NCAA Football November - NFL Football, NCAA Football December - NFL Football + minor Bowl Games no matter how pathetic (because ESPN televises them all) January - NFL football playoffs + BCS Title Bowl games February - SUPER BOWL WEEK!!!!!! the biggest geekfest of all. Plus the SB itself and the aftermath. Focus then starts to shift to College hoops March - College Hoops, College Hoops, College Hoops April - FINAL FOUR!!! ... NFL DRAFT!!!! May - NBA playoffs plus (normally) reports from NFL mini-camps. "optional" work-outs, and NCAA intra-squad spring football June - NBA playoffs and draft July - VACATION TIME!!!! ... replacement hosts will of course discuss football because camps are almost ready to open and it's never too early to start making predictions
