  1. One thing that we can be reasonably sure of: this game isn't going to end 1-0
  2. That hard single to RF by Raleigh has been the only solid contact (and only hit) for the Mariners so far today. Everything else has been weak grounders/bouncers plus a couple of pop-ups. 12 outs recorded: 6 Ks, 1-3, 6-3, PO-6, 1-4-3 DP, 1-3 Only real issue is the 3 BBs
  3. Edgy MD wrote: Walking the eight and nine hitters He's a true Met!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ 57 pitches thru 3. Also a 'True Met'.
  4. Well at least we didn't jump out to a lead. That would have fucked the game right off the bat.
  5. Speaking of scripted, it was recently brought to my attention that the Bronx Giraffe has yet to win a single race. I haven't thought about this 'race' essentially since it was announced, but I find this kind of funny even if obvious and something I should have seen coming.
  6. I was just doing some reading about how Dylan almost broke the movie before it could get made. He was just about to release Renaldo and Clara, a movie he starred in as well as co-wrote that eventually pre-dated the release of LW by a few months, and he was reluctant to appear in something which might conflict with it. Scorsese and the Band knew that a Dylan-less Waltz would blow a major hole in the financial outlook of their film so frantic negotiations went on leading practically right up to performance night. In the end crisis was averted when Bob agreed to allow two, but only two, of his performances into the picture ... and the rest is history.
  7. You feel like that when the Mets are up by two they're actually down by three.
  8. So I'm thinking: leadoff soto HR from Solo, and then 1-2-3 to end one run short.
  9. Nine Mariner doubles tonight. Do the Mets have nine doubles in August?
  10. I have a feeling this Matt Brash guy has a lot of confidence.
  11. Big hit by Alvarez but, right now, I refuse to allow myself to Believe or Imagine.
  12. Five of the six NYM pitchers have given up a run or runs [4, 1, 2, 3, 0, 1]. The only unscathed is Stanek who faced just one batter.
  13. 15 hits by the Mariners, 10 for extra bases Three different Mariners each have two doubles.
  14. Mariners bullpen: retired all nine Mets they've faced NYM pen: retired 6 of the 14 batters they faced* *and now 6 of 15
  15. Not only should Ringo have been brought in to throw the first pitch tonight, he should have been brought in to pitch. Could scarcely have done worse.
  16. Johnny Bench: 45 HRs in 1970 (age = 22): 38 as C, 7 other (1 as 1B, 2 as LF, 4 as RF) ... he also played 3B that year plus 2 games in CF!! Salvatore Perez: 48 HRs in 2021 (age = 31): 33 as C, 15 as DH Cal Raleigh: 46 (and counting) HRs in 2025 (age = 28): 37 as C, 9 as DH Todd Hundley: 41 HRs in 1996 (age 27): 41 as catcher There are a number of ways to determine who holds the season record for HRs by a 'Catcher'
  17. OK, Manaea. You put up a zero in the 4th inning. Let's see if you can do it again.
  18. Lindor had to HR first so Soto could follow ... since we all know that if there were still guys on base then Soto's ball couldn't have gone out.
  19. So it looks like we're eschewing the big inning that's characterized NYM games recently in favor of a series of small innings. 1 + 1 + 2 so far for Manaea Mets = 1 + 2 + ?
  20. Weekend stuff - Padres @ Dodgers for three Don't look now but the Pads are in 1st place by a game while the Dodgers are a NYM-esque 15-21 since July 1st and are coming off a sweep at the hands of the Angels!! Yanx @ StL And, yeah, the Cards are in the WC chase so on our tails to one degree or another so I should be rooting for them to lose these games ... but I can't. Besides, the Yanx are only 1/2 G in front of Cleveland for the 3rd WC slot just as we are in front of that other Ohio team - speaking of Cleveland, they'll be hosting the Braves. Ronald Acuna re-activated - Phils & Nats have three games remaining on their four-game set after the Nats won Thursday's opener
  21. RH Luis Castillo (no, not that one) goes for Seattle tonight and, unlike Bryce Elder, he's like actually good and stuff: 3x AS, 5th in AL CY 2023 A 3.52 ERA and 1.18 WHIP are his career numbers nine seasons into his career that has seen only one ERA as high as 4.00 (4.30 in his first full season in 2018). Not exactly a late bloomer as he made his debut at age 24. But, being from the D.R., he signed young and was traded five times, four prior to making the majors. - SFG signed him as a teenager but dealt him away three years later to Miami. - the Marlins then dealt him to SD as part of a multi-player deal at the trading deadline in 2016. - he was Padre property for Two Days!! at which point they sent him back to Miami in a separate swap. - Miami traded him that winter to Cincinnati and he'd finally make his ML debut later that season. - he made 137 starts for Cincy across five seasons until he was deemed expendable at the 2022 deadline and so he found himself in Seattle In all, a combination of playing in/for Seattle and having a far too generic name have combined to keep him out of the consciousness of most baseball fans save for those denizen of the rotisserie set where those who chose him probably got some valuable points from his consistently above average results and his ability to make almost every start: 33, 25, 33, 30, 24 (and counting) since 2021.
  22. So despite not giving up a HR, the six batters he put on base somehow all managed to score.
  23. Jim Callas profiles ten players who mlb.com had unranked in their pre-season Top-100 who then made the biggest jumps onto their recently released mid-season re-ranking. And three of them are Mets. Carson Benge, OF, Mets (No. 20) Benge snuck onto the Top 100 in a rare March move related to injury and spent the next few months asserting himself with authority, courtesy of one of the best offensive seasons in the Minors this year. The 22-year-old really turned it on after a midseason promotion to Double-A Binghamton, where he homered eight times in 32 games (double his homer output at High-A in almost half the games) to earn another promotion to Triple-A Syracuse. All told, the '24 first-rounder was hitting .308/.413/.513 with 12 homers and 19 steals across three levels during his first full pro season at the time of the rerank. Nolan McLean, RHP, Mets (No. 37) The Mets have had a recent trend of top pitching prospects struggling in their first taste of Triple-A, but not McLean. After an uneven first full season in '24, the '23 second-rounder reached the Minors' highest level after only five starts and emerged as one of the best pitchers in the International League, posting a 2.78 ERA with more than a strikeout per inning across 16 appearances (13 starts). McLean's best weapon is his 70-grade sweeper, which he can spin at upward of 3,000 rpm. And it's hurtled him to The Show, he's expected to make his MLB debut on Saturday against the Mariners. Jonah Tong, RHP, Mets (No. 44) Three of the 10 players on this list are Mets, and Tong is the epitome of a breakout prospect with his Tim Lincecum comps and eye-popping strikeout numbers. The 22-year-old reached Double-A down the stretch last season and absolutely dominated the level this year, posting a 1.59 ERA in 20 starts before heading to Triple-A with Benge and others to start the week. He leads the Minors with 162 strikeouts -- 27 more than the next closest pitcher at the time of our rerank. https://www.mlb.com/news/biggest-breakouts-on-new-top-100-prospects-list-2025?t=mlb-pipeline-coverage And a link to the entire new Top-100 released earlier this week: https://www.mlb.com/milb/prospects/top100/
