  1. 11 - 2 DBacks mid-9th -- and they used OF Tyler Moore to close out the inning.
  2. Not to make too many excuses for the pen - but there was like one maybe two hard hit balls that inning. Everything was finding holes. Not exactly a great debut by O'Flaherty (I'm going to start calling him MIV - easier to type). Again lots of soft stuff finding holes, but the disturbing part was that it was all vs LHBs And the good news, just as the Mets were closing it out Welington Castillo was hitting a 3R HR to make it 8-2 Snakes.
  3. Uh, anytime you want to end this game guys if OK with me.

I wouldn't let him go far but also he only has 67 pitches with one out in the 6th. tonight's pitch count isnt the point, he could be at 25 through 2 inings and i'd pull him if we led 25-0, IF there is an innings limit for the season. if there is no innings limit then i have no issue, but if there is then he shouldnt be left in for low-leverage innings on the rare occasions that blowouts develop. same goes for Syndergaard if he has a limit. But all innings aren't created equal, so if tonight's seven are more like five regular innings then it's not a big deal. Bottom line is it's more like a general innings target than a hard and fast limit so one or two extra pitched now doesn't necessarily mean one or two fewer down the road.
  6. Snakes take a 4-2 lead, still batting in top 6
  7. How the hell are the Nats/Snakes only in the 5th inning of a 2-1 game two hours after 1st pitch?
  8. Nymr83 wrote: It's 7-0 after 5, if Harvey is on any kind of innings limit following Tommy John surgery, should he be yanked here? He was at less than 60 pitches as this inning started - which is about standard for four innings of work, so he's OK for now. Don't want to overwork the pen either.

  10. OK calm down Ruben, you hit it over Yelich's head once ... don't push your luck.
  11. Jean Sibelius perhaps?

He would be foolish not to take that opportunity. This part, coupled with that no signing until May rule, is what seals the deal in this case. Cespedes has to either decide that he so loves the Mets (and vice-versa) that the two lovers throw caution to the wind and hit on a mutually agreed-upon lengthy deal prior to the end of the WS, or he has to blow off the first month of next season to re-sign here after a winter of spurring all other offers. Neither scenario is logical.
  13. Suddenly a top four which looks fairly formidable. As opposed to, say two months ago, when those same four were probably best described as: Suxx, Absent, Elsewhere, and Lost.
  14. So I got to thinking about our pre-season SS wants and as to where some of those dreamboats rank now that we're ~2/3 of the way through the season. As ranked by OPS, ML shortstops with 300+ ABs Ian Desmond = 20th Jean Segura = 21st Alexi Ramirez = 22nd Starlin Castro = 23rd ... that's out of 23 who qualify. Flores (though to be fair not a full-time SS) is 12th and Tejada (45 ABs short of qualifying) would be right behind him.
  15. Speaking of Leathersich, lost in much of the deadline hoopla surrounding last week deadline madness was that he underwent TJ surgery - so not only is he no longer a factor in this season's planning but he's pretty much out of the picture for next year too.
  16. Niese - 4.0 Campbell - 1.0 Tejada - 1.0 Granderson - 1.0 Lagares - 1.5 Duda - 0.75 Flores - 0.75
  17. From above ^^^ "Niese was the ninth Mets starter in the last 10 games to allow two earned runs or fewer, and the bullpen has thrown 11 1/3 scoreless innings during the winning streak." Colon's previous start is the only bad one in the bunch for the starters. For the pen the scoreless streak goes back to the debacle in the rain vs SD.
  18. Getting a long way ahead of ourselves here, but I don't see Cespedes getting offered a Wright-sized contract and certainly not for numbers north of that. - he'll turn 30 this October, already a year older than Wright was at the time of his extension - he won't have the good will built up with a team (no matter who he's talking to) the way Wright did w/the Mets. In his 4th season in MLB he's already on his 4th team. Not his fault necessarily, but Boston & Detroit did tire of him pretty quickly. - he's simply not as good as David at the same time. It's a smaller sample size for sure, but we're talking about career stats where his BA is 30 points lower than Wright's, an OBA that's dow 60, and a slugging that's 20 points less. I don't see him getting the length or total dollars of a Wright deal. And if he does I don't think I want to be the one paying it.

  20. Nasts hang on and end their 4 game losing streak. Still a one game gap.
  21. Remember his from his Braves days when Atlanta always seemed to have at least a half-dozen LHRs in their bullpen. Can't say I'll miss ATorres too much. Wasn't a bad idea and was kind of necessary after Edgin went down suddenly, but just too many walks to stomach. This is maybe an acknowledgement too that Blevins still isn't all that close.
  22. Saltalamacchia took Papelbon to the wall but it was just short. But now the final out of the game (grounder to 3rd) was thrown away and it's 5-4 w/the tying run on 2nd. Cliff Pennington is your batter.
  23. Another day ... another day in 1st place. Nats tied 3-3 in bottom 8 Matt Williams DID use Drew Storen tonight in the 8th inning of a tie game. Maybe he's been reading his reviews.
  24. Gwreck wrote: I was just saying that I found it strange that Campbell was the first bat off the bench. Well, it was either him, Plawecki, or a bunch of lefties vs Dunn (Murph, Johnson, Conforto) Could certainly make an argument for Muffy ... and now it's broken open anyway!!!
