  1. Growing up and hearing stories from my Grandfather about the Blank and Tans I might have viewed this movie with a somewhat different eye than you Bucket, of course I am assuming your Grandfather wasn't there. Certainly the story made for a violent and depressing movie, not sure you would want to butter it up differently though. This movie caused huge controversy in Britain and to a lesser extent in Ireland, Ken Loach though has never shied away form controversial topics . I understand in movies like this the freedom fighters often are portrayed in a romantic way , I think Loach avoided this for the most part. Bucket I would be surprised if you got this movie thinking Braveheart.
  2. True he must have, hope he has come to terms with them though.
  3. I wonder if Gooden ever looks at Clemens and thinks that could have been me, but maybe he has no regrets.
  4. Sucks that my memory of Gooden are him either in trouble with the law or pitching for the yankees.
  5. No Willie is less than impressed with the throwing ability of any available catchers.
  6. Mets have interest in Octavio Dotel the Times says.
  7. Very cool moment, I wish I was there.
  8. From what I have read the Rockies were going two years at $7 million combined, apparently his agent will take the Mets offer back to them as a courtesy , I rather he not get four years too.
  9. It's all about their foundation and that's just great to hear.
  10. Of course all this could be just to use the Yankees as a negotiating ploy, if Hank or Hal stick to what they said then they won't be fooled by that.
  11. I don't know about this gay, it's like he has to start over again except it's worse than that. http://arod.mlb.com/players/rodriguez_alex/article.jsp?story=111407
  12. Val , please tell me all about Owings and why you are so enamored with him.
  13. Excellent, good sport, see if we can get Tony Clark back to sort out the club house.
  14. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Let's go Montero and Hudson in the same deal; I'll part with some prospects for that. Find a D-Backs message board and try and sell that deal.
  15. Boston and Oakland open up the season in Japan for a two game series March 25/26, Sox are home team.
  16. I don't disagree with the AL manager but does Francona get looked over easily?
  17. Considering the dismal ratings for the world series not many people in America know Rodriguez is an asshole.
  18. No they are not but I can't see him coming here to platoon.
  19. That's the thing though, can you pay a guy millions to platoon him, I think not.
  20. Daily Snooze reporting that Rodriguez and MFY's in talks without Boras, I don't believe that.
  21. ] Reliever Scott Linebrink, a frequent Mets trade target as a Padre, seemingly won't be heading to Flushing as a free agent. Linebrink's agent, ex-Met Joe Sambito, said there had been "no communication" with the Mets regarding his client.

Yes they rocked although we had in SK's words " pitching woes" and Gonzalez was not the answer. Fun IGT to read.
  23. There certainly is concern about having star players for when they move into the new ball park, seems to be a line of thinking when it comes to trades, I might mention Art Howe very soon.
  24. Getting some feedback here, offer made from me. from a mod on that board. ] A lot of people fail to realize that the A's had a 5.04 ERA post all star break. They think pitching is a strength (And it has been for a long time) and assume that trading one or both of these guys is no big deal. Which is why I don't see those trades happening unless it is for high quality prospects that are a couple of years away from the majors. The A's are a Blanton and Haren trade away from a 90+loss season.
  25. This bold move should shut Kevin Kernan up for a while.
