  4. Looks to me like A Reyes flinched as he got called out because he " went around" .
  5. Those two at bats by Wright and Delgado were two of the best I have seen in a long long time....they had everything...

  11. Great picture.
  12. In the booth Gary questioned why Reyes didn't break for home and Keith thought Jerry must have had him under orders not to go, Ron agreed saying that becasue Castillo rarely gets it out of the infield he wanted to give Wright the chance to knock him in.

  15. Here is what I read , Heyman now has added espn. ] Mets' Minaya gets 4-year extension By Jon Heyman, SI.com General manager Omar Minaya and the Mets have agreed on a four-year contract extension, SI.com has confirmed. An official announcement is not expected until after the season. Minaya's several high-profile acquisitions have built the Mets into a perennial contender in the National League, and while the timing of the news is a little unusual in that the Mets are struggling in September for a second straight season, an extension was expected all along based on the club's overall improvement during his tenure. He also enjoys an excellent working relationship with the Wilpon family, which owns the Mets. Minaya's major acquisitions for the Mets have included Carlos Beltran, Pedro Martinez and National League MVP candidate Carlos Delgado. But while the Mets have been a a contender for three straight seasons, they are in the midst of trying to avoid a second consecutive disastrous ending. Minaya came under fire for the way in which Willie Randolph was fired, but the Wilpons didn't blame him and Randolph's replacement, Jerry Manuel, has led the Mets back into the race. Minaya's first Mets contract, which was to run through next year, was for about $4 million over five years. The extension is expected to contain a significant raise. News of the impending extension was first reported on nybaseballdigest.com and espn.com.
  16. I'm no James Joyce but that reads like it was written by a four year old.
  17. Apparently news of the extension was first reported over at Mike Silva's NY Baseball Digest. At least Jon Heyman credits them on his article regarding Minaya. http://nybaseballdigest.com/
  18. Congrats to Jose , now go get a bunch more.

Perhaps, but for the season, no other second baseman in the majors has seen more pitches per plate appearance than Castillo (4.26). I would not be surprised if someone comes up with numbers showing that he only offered at the first pitch once in the past month. It's probably more my perception than anything else.

  22. Not surprising I guess , Rubin I think it was several weeks ago said that no matter what Minaya would be back. The four years might be a surprise.
  23. Fman99 wrote: Hank's a big dumb ****. ] Hank Steinbrenner has some issues with playoff system I thought I was done blogging for today. Then I read the excerpts from Hank Steinbrenner's latest column in the new Sporting News magazine. Yikes! On revenue sharing: Thats a system I dont particularly like. Its a socialist system, and I dont agree with it. Does it work? It depends on your point of view. But is it right? Is it even American? Id argue no on both of those points. On the divisional setup: If you want to talk about things that infuriate me about the game today, revenue sharing doesnt top the list. The biggest problem is the divisional setup in major league baseball. I didnt like it in the 1970s, and I hate it now. Baseball went to a multidivision setup to create more races, rivalries and excitement. But it isnt fair. You see it this season, with plenty of people in the media pointing out that Joe Torre and the Dodgers are going to the playoffs while were not. This is by no means a knock on Torre let me make that clearbut look at the division theyre in. If L.A. were in the A.L. East, it wouldnt be in the playoff discussion. The A.L. East is never weak. On Joe Torre: Im happy for Joe, but you have to compare the divisions and the competition. What if the Yankees finish the season with more wins than the Dodgers but the Dodgers make the playoffs? Does that make the Dodgers a better team? No. On his case for the divisional setup not being good for the game: Go back to the 2006 season. St. Louis winning the World Series that was ridiculous. The Cardinals won their division with 83 wins two fewer than the Phillies, who missed the postseason. People will say the Cardinals were the best team because they won the World Series. Well, no, they werent. They just got hot at the right time. They didnt even belong in the playoffs. And neither does a team from the N.L. West this season. On the media: The divisional setup is not right by any definition of logic. But the sports media rarely deals with logic s o you never read about this. Posted by Neil Best on September 23, 2008 2:02 PM
