  1. From Neil Best ] 3. SNY will add closed captioning for the hearing-impaired (and for sports bar patrons) in time for the Mets' opener, lest it read about its failure to do so here every single day. 4. SNY also will show the 1969 World Series in honor of that event's 40th anniversary - including Game 1, thus beating YES to the honor of being the first team-owned cable channel in New York to present a classic game that resulted in a loss
  2. Does Heyman still keep his SNY gig? I see he is listed on sny.tv as SNY's Sports News Team.
  3. Watching MLB Network Hot Stove and they are reporting that San Francisco have offered Manny Ramirez a four year deal. Dodgers and A Jones have agreed to defer most of his money owed likely leading to him playing elsewhere. Scott Proctor to the Marlins for one year.

    Who?

Exactly , I can't think of anyone that spurned New York's money to go to Atlanta, maybe a few bullpen guys but I can't think who.I have a very vague memory when Valentine was here that some players may have bad mouthed NY because of him and went to Atlanta.

    Who?

Maybe the downslide started when Tom Glavine took the money and went to NY in 2002 and Jared Wright taking the money in 2005 can't have helped.

    Who?

    Greg Maddux ?
  7. I went to the source and it looks correct. MBTN does not have #83 listed . http://mbtn.net/roster
  8. From Wikipedia... ] MLB Network HD MLB Network HD is a 720p high definition simulcast of MLB Network, which launched simultaneously to the regular channel. All studio programs are shot in HD. The network is also currently remastering 30 World Series Films in high definition. [7] According to a December 15, 2008 Broadcasting & Cable article: After much discussion, MLB Network decided to use the 720p format instead of 1080i because it believes 720p shows the motion of baseball more accurately and will degrade less when recompressed by cable operators to save bandwidth. As Mark Haden (VP of engineering and IT of MLB Network) says: That's our best shot of maintaining quality to viewers. [8] The 720p format is also used by MLB broadcast partner Fox and many of the Fox Sports Net regional sports networks (which hold the rights to local game coverage of several teams), along with ESPN. DirecTV carries both SD and HD.[9] Verizon FiOS has also come to an agreement with MLB to carry the MLB Network in SD and HD[10]. Cablevision has announced they will carry the HD version. [11] Some Time Warner Cable systems do as well. Their decision to go with 720p format sounds interesting , I'm no expert though and to me 480i , 720p and 1080i/p are good selling gimmicks. SNY & YES use 1080i on their broadcasts . I read recently in a trade magazine that with a HD TV and a BlueRay DVD you can get true 1080p.
  9. Tuesday's at 8PM Ken Burns "Baseball" documentary will be shown. 1st Inning will air January 6th with subsequent Innings each Tuesday at 8PM. I have never watched the complete series so I'm looking forward to this.
  10. Jackie and the Dodgers employ the shift for Mantle and the other left handed hitters on the yankees , Mel Allen talking about it being OK if Mantle bunted down the third base side for a hit. Mantle just beat the shift by hitting a home run.
  11. Duke Snider just hit one barely foul down the right field foul pole and Mel Allen said " Ed Rungy watched that one go just foul", very cool to connect the dots with that name.
  12. Yeah this is fun to watch , apparently this is the first time the complete game minus the first inning of course has been shown.
  13. Costas mentioned for some reason the tape of the first innings is missing.
  14. Nice set is about all I got right now.
  15. I have a slight memory of him pitching a good game one time , or at the least a decent five innings.
  16. 1999 was such a fun season, hard to believe it's ten years ago already.
  17. Thankfully Minaya is't Cashman who at this point with no other suitors would sweeten the pot by at least $60 million.
  18. Wrong again Bucket , thanks Steve for sorting that out.
  19. Yeah , it looks like a bad imitation they sell over at Fordham road.
  20. Could the ETS be any further away from the M? , h-orrible.
  21. From a chat with Neil Best over at Newsday ] 12:08 [Comment From Dino] I have heard that the MLB Network will have "live look-ins" at games throughout the regular season. Is this true and why would they agree to do this since it seems to undermine the Extra Innings package, if only a little bit? 12:08 They will indeed have look-ins, but they will have rules limiting how often and for how long they can show games to avoid conflicting with local channels and Extra Innings stuf
  22. ="Vince Coleman Firecracker"]Phil Collins' solo efforts seem to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying in a narrower way, especially No Jacket Required and songs like "In the Air Tonight" and "Against All Odds" (though that song was overshadowed by the masterful movie from which it came) and "Take Me Home" and "Sussudio" (great, great song; a personal favorite) and his remake of "You Can't Hurry Love," which I'm not alone in thinking is better than the Supremes' original. But I also think that Phil Collins works better within the confines of the group than as a solo artist- and I stress the word artist. In fact it applies to all three of the guys, because Genesis is still the best, most exciting band to come out of England in the 1980s. In the article I read which I can't be bothered to look for it mentioned that his favorite album ever is Phil Collins "Hits" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hits_(Phil_Collins_album)
  23. ="John Cougar Lunchbucket"] Her husband just got charged with assault and affray after spending the last 24 hours in jail following a beating of a DJ in a pub after Liverpool FC beat Newcastle Sunday. Gerrard along with five others got arrested in the early hours Monday morning after allegedly beating the DJ up , apparently the DJ wouldn't let Gerrard spin his favorite tunes. His favorite singer is Phil fucking Collins , hard to blame the DJ on that.
  24. Happy birthday Greg.
  25. Great list guys , I think it's just about covered. Gary Carter keeping his bags packed waiting for Randolph to drop dead or at the least get fired. The George Thorogood interview over at MBTN was great stuff. http://mbtn.net/node?page=6 Not that it was odd but it was surprising .
