  1. Japanese fans sign petition in support of Bobby Valentine ] THE ASSOCIATED PRESS 9:35 AM EDT, June 15, 2009 TOKYO - Fans supporting Bobby Valentine submitted a petition with more than 100,000 signatures to the head office of the Chiba Lotte Marines on Monday in a bid to keep the American on as manager beyond the 2009 Japanese baseball season. Valentine, in his seventh season as manager of the Pacific League team, has been told his contract will not be renewed at the end of the season. "It's an honor to have people care about me," Valentine said Monday. "The fans in Chiba are passionately committed and the best you will find." Asked if he thinks the signature drive will have any affect on changing the minds of the Lotte head office, Valentine said: "I don't know if it will help because I don't make the decisions. But there is only one place I'd like to be if I came back, and that's Chiba." The signatures were gathered outside Lotte's home stadium in Chiba where Marines fans have been holding demonstrations in support of the popular former New York Mets manager. Team president Ryuzo Setoyama announced in the offseason that the team couldn't afford Valentine after this season. The 59-year-old led the team to the Japan Series championship in 2005 and has been a fan favorite ever since.
  2. ="dgwphotography":qwjhrx0j]="OlerudOwned":qwjhrx0j]Omar and Jerry at the same time.[/quote:qwjhrx0j] I would hope so, because I don't see Omar ever hiring Bobby V.[/quote:qwjhrx0j] I think he'd hire Bobby. In fact they are good friends going back to the Texas days . Bobby is apparently friendly with the Wilpons and has attended charity functions for them. That friendship with Minaya has helped thaw out things with the Wilpons , at least I read that somewhere once. I'd wager that Minaya would hire Bobby htis season. PiggiesTomatoes Jun 15 2009 05:00 PM I echo the sentiment about only being able to vote for one. I'd have rathered vote for Omar but he'll cut Jerry fast so quick to save his own ass (see Randolph, Willie), it would probably never get to that point. I'd pick up Bobby V. at the airport, if the Wilpon's brought him back. Kong76 Jun 15 2009 05:38 PM I was slow to vote, wanted to think about it today. Mets lose a couple of ugly ones in B'more and don't play well at home against the team formerly know as the Devil Rays ... Bye-bye Jerry on Monday morning 6/22. Willets Point Jun 15 2009 06:17 PM I went with Omar Minaya. He kind of deserves it most. Edgy DC Jun 15 2009 07:51 PM ="metirish":19wid08w]WTF was Acta supposed to do with that team? "Disappearing" of guys like Stokes and weird playing-time decisions notwithstanding, he's far more popular than Willie was with the players. Between that and the injury excuse (and the fact that firing him would mean the Wilpons would be paying three managers for this year), I think he'll linger for a while, like gangsta mold. Kong76 Jun 16 2009 03:02 PM Eh, I figured I'd pick a day. I hope we don't have to live through a crappy series in B'more, etc. to find out. I didn't even consider that the Mets were still on the Willie hook. Lazy question, is this the last year or is there another? I forget.
  3. WTF was Acta supposed to do with that team? I remember when Manny was thought of as a bright young up and coming manager , this can't help him.
  4. We have to pick one right? Manuel
  5. I'm opting out of voting in the future, that includes the just finished series. Nothing to do with your excellent work and effort Ben Grim.

I saw a lot of stupid things there today but some of the MFY fans beat all , I saw guys coming towards me wearing " I heart NY " shirts with a picture of Castillo dropping the ball friday night......
  7. They showed the whole thing on the 6 O'Clock News , funny stuff. Francisco just wouldn't go away and kept coming back to the guy. Bruney afterwards apologized about it , or as he said" I guess this is my apology to him"... It was "handbags at six paces" as they say.
  8. What a rubbish game to attend. I was hoping for a pitching duel but those rarely seem to happen. I thought Santana was getting squeezed early and Cora getting jobbed in the third was huge. My seat was in the bleachers but I was obstructed badly by the CF area. Lots of Mets fans there and we had a good "lets go mets" chant to counter there stupid chant. I was out and gone from my seat for good by the start of the fourth inning , yeah it sucked that much. I spent the rest of my time walking around and taking a few pictures. Her is my impression of yankee stadium III , wow it's just not that impressive , it's very big but way to much concrete , waking around the various concourses was nothing special , again lots of concrete where Citi Field has a mix and the concourses look and feel better . The food court area on the first level is nothing and it's inside set back from the concourse . The hallway that you keep hearing about? , yeah so it's like walking through a shopping mall , really it's nothing great , I much prefer the look at Citi Field where they have the players all along the front , they have that inside that hallway. Obviously I am biased but I'm being as honest as I can be here , this stadium is impressive in it's size but the feeling there is just not that pleasurable, not sure if that is the correct word to use but I'll use it. my seat >

  10. Santos hits a home run after a pointless bunt from Church.....2 zip
  11. Who's Brian Bruney again?...oh right , the fat mediocre pitcher .
  12. Nieve looks like he's got some good stuff, throws hard.
  13. Thanks for the heads up , I've just been told that we are going to leave for the game early. I'm going with two MFY fans so I'll be sure to take pictures as they wank off near the museum.
  14. Perfect.... Up and at 'em boys....
  15. I feel terrible for Castillo, he's worked hard this season and got back in the fans good graces(if that means anything) and now this. I don't think it will ever be forgotten.
  16. ="Rockin' Doc":3pw3i8lp]I am rapidly losing faith in this band of walking wounded. Base running gaffes, legions of stranded runners, giving away outs with persistent sacrifice bunting, untimely errors, and poor fundamentals are starting to be too much for me to take. If you're going to hate the Mets every time they lose you may as well jump on the bandwagon of whatever team is winning. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Jun 12 2009 10:16 PM ="Willets Point":2gaapyul]Pretty lame. If you're going to hate the Mets every time they lose you may as well jump on the bandwagon of whatever team is winning.[/quote:2gaapyul] I know, I know, you're an optimist. I usually aim and strive for that. But, shit, man-- we're venting in a friendly space, in innocuous fashion. Let us let it out. holychicken Jun 12 2009 10:43 PM Come on, Willets, you have to admit that this team is incredibly hard to route for at this point. They have been playing terrible ball and losing far more games that they should have won than winning ones that they should have lost. Edgy DC Jun 12 2009 10:48 PM root. Willets Point Jun 12 2009 11:10 PM Venting is great, criticism is fine - especially with the facts to back it up. I object to the fact that every day for like the past two years I come to this site and see reactionary crap like "sucks" and "hate" about a team we're supposed to be supporting. I object to moral judgments like "he's lazy", "he's stupid", "he doesn't want to win" "they don't have heart" and all that bullshit as opposed to intelligent observations about the player/team/strategy based on facts and statistics. I don't know what's happened to the Crane Pool. This used to be the site that avoided all the reactionary hater kind of stuff. Shit, even in 2004 I remember folks here being supportive of the team and that team was pretty lousy. The past four seasons we've had a good, contending team with some of the best, most exciting players in the teams history. I don't like seeing them make mistakes and fail to live up to their potential either, but just spouting a bunch a crap makes this forum no fun. I've tried quitting but keep coming back for some reason. Maybe it's just a memory. Willets Point Jun 12 2009 11:19 PM Short version of the above post: if you hate this team, don't watch them. For your sake and mine. Benjamin Grimm Jun 13 2009 04:45 AM Come on now, "rapidly losing faith" doesn't mean "hate them every time they lose." I do agree that there's sometimes too much angst here; maybe it's easier for some to root for a team that's not expected to win anything, because the losses are less critical. I don't buy into pure optimism. "They'll win because I want them to win and I have faith that they will." That's only worked out twice in nearly a half century. But Willets is right: If watching this team causes upset and aggravation that you can't quickly put behind you, then you might want to consider a more relaxing hobby. Rockin' Doc Jun 13 2009 06:00 PM ="Willet Point":22ljqhel]Pretty lame. [/quote:22ljqhel] I'm not sure if you were addressing my post of last night or not, but since it immediately follows mine I will assume that you were. First of all, nowhere did I use "sucks", "stupid", or "hate" to express my frustration with the Mets play this month. I think that the poor baserunning decisions and the games the Mets have simply given away with shoddy defensive plays, like last night, are fairly apparent and quantifiable this season. The Mets penchant for getting runners on base and then failing to drive them is maddening (at least to me) and is, in my opinion, exacerbated by Jerry Manuel's frequent giving away of outs by sacrifice bunting. I did not say that I was not rooting for the Mets or that I would not continue to pull for the team to win. I said they weren't easy for me to love. I am a Mets fan and I will continue to cheer for them and hope for the best, but I will to do so with a sense of realism regarding their play. I'm sorry if my less than optimistic view of the team's play doesn't meet your approval or high standards for a fan.
  17. We had it....we had this fucking series , the kid goes tomorrow...whatever....Santana on Sunday....grab that ball and we are looking at two wins at least......
  18. 6/12/2009 The Castillo game...
