  1. I don't know much about Suzyn Waldman but I think I am right in saying she was a Red Sox fan..........
  2. Great reads , why were Bud and Kranepool always fighting , any stories there?
  3. Well I apologize for being so sensitive.....what the hell is that about.......it's that time of the month don't you know........pay day
  4. ="LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr"]="metirish"] I like the idea of having better gloves out there , when Pagan gets back that he will help in that regard too. Ooh... let's start with a defensive outfield. Pagan in center, Reed in left, Church in right? Defensive whiz kid Murph starts at first. I like Wright at short-- if you do that, though, howzabout Murph at third and Evans at first? Sheffield and Tatis serve as situational lefty-mashers/twice-a-week starters. Cora's in at short and Wright moves to third for the late innings. Short bench. Lots of pitchers. And if you're going to bunt-- and you couldn't blackmail Manuel into stopping-- let's bunt all the f-ing time. Slap bunts. Squeezes. Bal'mer chops. Funt, funt, funt, funt! Old-time McGraw-style, cleats-up baseball! Slap-chop to go with Sham-Wow! I can't stop using exclamation points! (Oh, and we'll probably have to be a little dirtier for this to work-- leaning into pitches, running outside of baselines to get in throwing lanes, and the like. But hey, apparently, we're baseball's bad guys without even knowing it. If we're going to be punchless, might as well out-Victorino the Victorinos of the league.) Until Delgado gets back. Then it's hammer time. And if we are going to go with "Sham-WOW" as the cheer, then we've got to lobby the team to hire Craig Lefferts as pitching coach-- he's made in Germany. I don't get your sarcasm towards me in this, Pagan can help this team when he gets back and it's not like he would take the place of a slugger when he does play. I don't know either way if Reed is better or worse than Pagan , I've barely seen Reed play.

We become the reincarnate 1890's Baltimore Orioles. Hopefully we don't get pounded in the standings the way that the hooker pounded the Shamwow guy. (What a douche! I wish I was him!) LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Jul 09 2009 11:55 AM ="Edgy DC":1eupf86w]Any reason to think that Reed is Pagan's lesser --- even assuming a healthy Pagan?[/quote:1eupf86w] Pagan's obviously better at getting off-days. Apart from that, a slightly better walk rate. But, yeah, they're pretty similar, skill-set-wise. And I was more half-joking, Irish-- sorry if it came off sarcastically. I actually really like the idea of doing something completely different and fun-- as long as the front office uses the remainder of the season to try and prep for 2010, I'd actually love to see some dice-rolling. Given the power-free offense, fast, fleet outfield defense would actually be preferable to starting Tatis or Sheff "for power", especially considering that Johan, Livan, Perez and Maine are all flyball pitchers. metirish Jul 09 2009 11:59 AM Well I apologize for being so sensitive.....what the hell is that about.......it's that time of the month don't you know........pay day Edgy DC Jul 09 2009 12:05 PM ="LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr":2zz78mqx]="Edgy DC":2zz78mqx]Any reason to think that Reed is Pagan's lesser --- even assuming a healthy Pagan?[/quote:2zz78mqx] Pagan's obviously better at getting off-days. 6. ="Frayed Knot"]Maybe - although you didn't chime in during this thread one way or the other. Nymr83 gets the prescient award on this topic: "that is a shitload of years and money. toronto will come to regret that contract in a few years i think." As always it's interesting to look back....props to Nymr for Ryan and props to Edgy for his Jason Bay comment... I had forgotten about Loiaza and that terrible deal...
  7. I think this was an encouraging start form Ollie , yeah the walks suck but damn we need this guy. Things are going to get better with him, I believe that.
  8. A CPFer sighting? , pretty certain I spy G-Fafif in the front row ....not far from Trump ........Greg sporting a black Mets tee with Mets across the front.
  9. That always struck me as a dumb deal to begin with, but there was a lot of bad big money deals for closers around that time.
  10. From the AP LOS ANGELES - Former New York Mets outfielder Lenny Dykstra has sought bankruptcy protection in Los Angeles, citing more than $31 million in debts. Federal court documents show Dykstra filed for Chapter 11 status on Tuesday. He listed assets of $50,000 or less and liabilities of between $10 million and $50 million. Dykstra, whose lifestyle included a lavish house, a jet and a Rolls Royce, says he owes millions of dollars to his 20 largest creditors, many of them banks. His filing follows at least two dozen lawsuits over his business and financial dealings. Dykstra, nicknamed "Nails" for his rough-and-ready style, is a former All-Star who spent 12 years with the Mets and the Philadelphia Phillies. He won a World Series with the Mets in 1986.

Take it for what it's worth but Heyman today has a "Mets person" saying that they can't match up with Billy Beane on a trade for Matt Holliday , Heyman also scouts potential trading partners for Roy Halladay and has the Phillies on top of that list....again it means nothing but I'd hate to see the guy end up there.
  12. She has you worn out , she's riding you like Jerry is riding David .
  13. You're making sense , stop it now. I guess there is some sort of scale psychologists could study that we as Mets fans go through. Joy Excitement Reality Disgust Pain Hate Pissed off Reality Again Acceptance

  15. ="Edgy DC"] I suspect something's brewing, and I further suspect that something has to do with Howard Johnson, but maybe it waits until the All Star Break. For now, I think Oliver Perez Saving Mets Season is as great a headline as I can imagine. Rubin touched on this yesterday and Gary and Ron talked about it last night , by all accounts no coaching staff works harder than these guys. That sounds like the usual line but I'll take Razor Shines at his word that they do in fact work hard at figuring this out . But really what can you do with these players , fair has nothing to do with it but to me firing all of Jerry's coaches would do nothing for this team, I suppose Hojo can be held accountable for Wright? I don't know but the more I think about it the more complicated it becomes in my head ....
  16. The Mets are losers of nine of their last eleven games. I expect to be in fourth place in the next few days.
  17. I didn't feel like looking at numbers either as I was literally running out the door at the time.
  18. That was a good interview with his college coach , also talked about how nervous Mike gets when pitching from the stretch . I don't know what Wharton is doing but some of his charges have regressed .
  19. It could be worse and we could be there tonight , just started raining and I imagine it's miserable out there tonight , plus this would be a top of the line game for the Mets to charge....poor fuckers who paid top dollar for this.
  20. Frayed Knot wrote: No XBHs since Friday. What does one even say about that?, it would seem nearly impossible for a ML team to not do that.
  21. Jerry looks lost in the dugout.
  22. This is piss poor, hey a DP ball from Church.
  23. That was a terrible call on Rameriz for the SO,
