  1. Is it a bit early to post this? From the Snewz Johan Santana may pitch against his former employer in 2010, but it wont come in Minnesotas new ballpark. A preliminary schedule for next season reveals that the Twins and Tigers are scheduled to visit Citi Field, the Daily News has learned. The Mets also expected to visit Cleveland, in addition to the customary home-and-home series with the Yankees. The Mets last played the Twins and Tigers in 2007, and the Indians in 04. The Amazins went 5-10 in interleague play this season, tied with Arizona and San Diego for the worst in the National League. Other than the Santana connection, there doesn't seem to be much in the way of storylines. The Indians' roster includes ex-Met Joe Smith, while you may remember Anderson Hernandez was originally acquired from Detroit for Vance Wilson.
  2. From the Daily Snewz ] MORE TO COME: Fans will see more tributes to Mets history during the upcoming home stand. According to a team statement: "The Mets have begun installation of photographic imagery of famous players and historic moments in team history on the field and promenade levels as well as the display of team championship banners on the left-field wall."
  3. All going well with his surgery and recovery it will be 2011 when he is back , I iamgine one would need a strong will to get through all that.
  4. Rick fucking Sutcliffe, can't do it , Rick would make a great snooker announcer with his oh so low voice. Get that man a beer to loosen him up.
  5. I am pretty sure I would watch more baseball if Cappy was caught.

Fman99 Aug 13 2009 07:08 AM The important thing is that one of the superfans out there at Wrigley dumped a beer on the head of the Cryin Hawaiian, Shane Victorino, while he was fielding a fly out last night. Couldn't have picked a better target. John Cougar Lunchbucket Aug 13 2009 07:11 AM Now, come on. Like your mother always said, two douchebags don't make a right. He more or less missed and didn't throw the cup, but see if you don't see a second shower come out of the stands from the right of Victorino --- your right, his left -- after the first guy pounds his from your left and Shane's right. Anybody who throws a homerun ball back at CitiField should acknowledge their Cubs wannabeness, move to Chicago and join that crowd. The activities out there seemed to have little connection to the activities on the field. Just a bunch of drunks who start in the bars across the street, show up at the game for a little while to frink some more than stumble back across the street after/during the game. Benjamin Grimm Aug 13 2009 08:33 AM I know that's just a typo on Michigan's part, but I'm intrigued by the verb "frink." Got into a little late-night debate (prompted by a Facebook post) with a Phils-fan friend who does work for various Philly-area nonprofits about this. Vic's apparently a hell of a guy off-field-- she's worked a few fundraisers with him-- a WXPN guest-overnight-DJ gig, some Children's Hospital stuff-- and he's exceedingly generous with his time, and funny, and gracious to everyone he spends said time with*. "Yes," I said, "but that doesn't mean that every time I see him gesture at the Met dugout, I won't give him the finger inside my head." (*Utley, on the other hand? By her thirdhand report, kind of a stoner d-bag, especially since last fall. Oooh, I feel like TMZ!) Frayed Knot Aug 13 2009 11:55 AM I like the 'What did I do?' look on the guy's face as he's being carried out. That and the fact that a lone Philly phan out there is pelting him with peanuts as he goes. 10. ="John Cougar Lunchbucket":1c1qk0wj]I'm a traditional offense worrier, but the fact that we haven't been hurling well enough to win in 2 of every 5 games regardless of O is an added depression. I think we've seen the last of John Maine, and Jerry's remarks about Pelf the other night indicate he's on his shitlist. Livan is what he is, but he seemed to show up Cora last night after that nonplay. Angel Pagan is also in the doghouse, by the way. Knowing that some of the very few guys with major league skills are in the doghouse, however justifiably, while we trot out Sullivan and Hernandez and stuff --- depressing! I was unaware. thought there was the main house, and then there was the shed where he used to stick Church and where he stores leftover chuckles and goatee trimmings. Given the injury situation-- including the fact that the team's been playing with a 23-man roster all year-- I'd think we live in a figurative third-story walkup-- no room for a doghouse. Frayed Knot Aug 12 2009 10:29 AM When we turn leadoff doubles into no - or maybe one - run early in a game knowing that missing that kind of opportunity is going to come back and bite us. We're basically not good enough to let those slide by without regretting it. smg58 Aug 12 2009 10:44 AM I can forgive Pagan for playing like he's the centerfielder on a very desperate team. Taking him aside and telling him he's not improving the situation by trying to do too much out there seems perfectly appropriate. Putting him in the doghouse does not. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Aug 12 2009 10:46 AM ="Frayed Knot":3ns88ezd]When we turn leadoff doubles into no - or maybe one - run early in a game knowing that missing that kind of opportunity is going to come back and bite us. I mean, hey-- the team did score! And it's the first/second/fourth inning? You need to relax, dude. soupcan Aug 12 2009 10:51 AM Last night I had the game on. My son came into the room and saw Corey Sullivan batting leadoff, he looked at me, eyes wide open, looked back to the TV, saw that it was the top of the first, crossed his arms, closed his eyes, dropped his head, shook it in a side to side motion then walked out of the room. John Cougar Lunchbucket Aug 12 2009 10:52 AM Jerry will deny there being a doghouse too, though Rubin's notes column indicated he would use Cory Hotline at CF for several games at Pagan's expense because he likes the "energy" he provides. What's most depressing to me maybe is the crushing realization that we not only had a full season from Delgadio, Beltrran and Reyes last years but excellent seasons form them to boot -- and we still screwed the pooch. This perspective makes me reiterate my forgotten campaign from last year that Omar should be whacked. Ashie62 Aug 12 2009 10:56 AM Omar "well, Santos has been a surprise" and the realization that 90 losses may be in the cards but stubhub tells me I can sit in the promendade of almost any remaining game for $5. USA-Mexico-- AT ALTITUDE!-- may make your heart hurt a bit less. MFS62 Aug 12 2009 11:45 AM Does that mean they're going to be high for the game? Later PiggiesTomatoes Aug 12 2009 12:02 PM ="Benjamin Grimm":1258cyfv]I don't think I've ever had this much apathy.[/quote:1258cyfv] I'm beginning to feel the same way. Crappy, too, when I was planning to flly up on a Saturday and home on a Sunday evening to be able to catch a couple of games at CF. This is a hard team to root for, and not just because of the losses. Injuries are a perfectly accpetable excuse for most losses but the uninspired play on the field is rubbing off on fandom. If it looked like they were consistently hustling and busting it, and playing sound ball, and there were still tough losses, I could live with that -- I'd accept it and appreciate it. But that isn't happening. Sloppy play and a general lack of any get-up-and-go, makes this a tough team to watch. To boot, a great number of these guys aren't even Mets. They're wearing the uniform but in many cases will only be remembered as Mets through sites like this or UMDB. This squad has no real identity or character. Maybe that's part of it. Character is a lot easier to root for. We need a raise. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Aug 12 2009 12:19 PM ="MFS62"]Does that mean they're going to be high for the game? Edgy DC Aug 12 2009 12:25 PM Actually, I think they are playing sounder ball --- far sounder in August than in July. And the last few games-- in ways both obvious (Pagan's travails, Castillo's airmailed toss, Murphy not being where he oughta for the DP last night) and subtle (every single one of those play-at-the-plate throws missing first-base-side, e.g.)-- have been kinda brutal. holychicken Aug 12 2009 01:09 PM When I load up my my.yahoo page in the morning and I see that the Mets have a game later that day. themetfairy Aug 12 2009 01:13 PM My heart broke when I saw Jonathan Niese collapse and fall off the mound in pain. TransMonk Aug 13 2009 07:45 AM I cancelled my MLB.TV package earlier this week saving me $40 for the rest of the season and making way for NFL Sunday Ticket. To be honest, I only got through about 20 full Mets games this season, but had it on in the background while I did other things. It just hasn't been any fun watching games this season. Or last season. Or the season before. Benjamin Grimm Aug 13 2009 07:49 AM The last two seasons had plenty of fun, at least from April through August. 18. Nice report JCL. Nick Santomauro: Cleanup hitter, also a lefty, awful batting stance. I can't believe they let guys get away with that kinda stuff at this stage of their career. Holds the bat with his shoulders pushed out front as if he's trying to get his elbows to meet, then kinda rotates it back as the pitch arrives.
