  1. I think Chipper coming back to "retire his way" will throw a spanner in the works and sabotage Fredi's first season as manager.
  2. Probably not getting Lee now.
  3. Not a frequent year for Maz?
  4. Seo being from Cali he's obviously not a real American.
  5. Yankees met with Feliciano's agent today.
  6. Boras for what it is worth (nothing) is saying Beltran expects to stay a Met.
  7. Rubin says Oberkfell expected to be named bench coach. I like it.
  8. Rubin and others reporting that the mets "may very well lose RHP Elvin Ramirez in Rule 5 draft. No control , but hitting 97 mph in DR with scouts watching".
  9. Edgy DC wrote: Well, the comments might bring up a question if they actually existed. Yes, I just went back over the interview wondering where they were. Batmag acting the dickey again
  10. This is just great , cheers for the links Next year, do you think competing is realistic? What's your outlook going into spring training? RD: That's a tough question, because most teams, going into the season, are never real honest about what they think. so true for some of us fans too. credit to Sam Page for a great interview
  11. Ashie62 wrote: I agree with just about eveything Scott says. I'll bite , you believe just about everything he says....except that Obama wasn't born here right? I propose a major league team for the deep south , a team where all these good ole boys can play together, be like the real American team.
  12. I would say it has been a productive winter meeting for the Mets.
  13. Heyman saying that Lee has two 7 year offers for $20 million plus , and not from the yankees or Rangers.....this is swell so far.
  14. Dying over here
  15. An intriguing candidate, http://proxy.espn.go.com/blog/new-york/mets The Mets interviewed Dave Hudgens for the hitting coach position Tuesday afternoon at the Dolphin Hotel, closing out the field. The other two candidates are former Detroit Tigers first base coach Andy Van Slyke and former Pittsburgh Pirates hitting coach Don Long. Hudgens manages Caracas in the Venezuelan winter league and has minor league field coordinator for the Cleveland Indians for the past five seasons. He also has served as a minor league manager for the Oakland Athletics. He actually was the fifth overall pick in the first round by the Mets in the June 1975 draft but did not sign.
  16. WSJ By CHAD BRAY NEW YORKThe trustee recovering money on behalf of victims of Bernard Madoff's fraud sued New York Mets principal owner Fred Wilpon and his real-estate investment firm, Sterling Equities Associates, on Tuesday. Irving Picard has filed a flurry of lawsuits in recent days seeking to recover money from investors who allegedly received false profits from the Ponzi scheme or persons or institutions he claims enabled the fraud. Under federal bankruptcy law, Mr. Picard must bring such lawsuits by Dec. 11, the two-year anniversary of Mr. Madoff's arrest and his firm's demise. "We are currently engaged in good-faith negotiations with the sterling defendants," Mr. Picard in a statement. The lawsuit was filed in U.S Bankruptcy Court in Manhattan under seal on Tuesday in light of the ongoing negotiations, said Fernando Bohorquez Jr., a lawyer representing Mr. Picard. Sterling Equities and its partners are among the so-called "net winners" whom Mr. Picard claims withdrew more than they originally invested with Mr. Madoff. In a court filing last year, Mr. Picard alleged a partnership associated with the baseball team, Mets LP, gained a net $48 million through its investments with Mr. Madoff. The partnership deposited about $523 million over the years with Mr. Madoff, a longtime friend of Mr. Wilpon's, and withdrew about $571 million, Mr. Picard said at the time. Sterling Equities declined comment in a statement Tuesday, saying the parties are engaged in settlement negotiations. "Regardless of the outcome of these discussions, we want to emphasize that the New York Mets will have all the necessary financial and operational resources to fully compete and win," Sterling Equities said. "That is our commitment to our fans and to New York." Mr. Picard has gone after a number of financial institutions in recent weeks, including lawsuits against UBS AG, HSBC Holdings PLC and J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. The banks have all denied wrongdoing. On Tuesday, Mr. Picard and federal prosecutors reached a joint settlement with the family of Carl Shapiro, one of Mr. Madoff's earliest investors. Under the settlement, Mr. Shapiro's family will pay $625 million. Separately, Mr. Wilpon and Sterling Equities were sued in July on behalf of participants in the company's 401(k) plan. The widow of a plan participant claimed 92% of the plan's assets, or about $16.2 million, were invested with Mr. Madoff's firm at the end of 2007. Sterling Equities said at the time that the lawsuit was without merit and that the plan and its participants were "among the many victims of the Madoff fraud." Write to Chad Bray at chad.bray@dowjones.com Thankfully none of these shenanigans will effect the Mets ...right?
  17. Rubin says Bay asked the Mets to interview Long.
  18. Enrique Rojas who is fast becoming a Twitter sensation reports that Gary Sheffield is at the winter meetings and he is now a agent/financial advisor.
  19. To the Red Sox??? http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/mets/post/_/id/12735/beltran-to-sox-not-likely-but
  20. Edgy Bean Stringfellow at your service.
  21. I don't see anything happening until the Spring when Alderson can eyeball Beltran himself. I agree though that a "will he won't he" go to RF is a distraction/disaster waiting to unfold. I mean , what we don't want is him starting the season in CF and ten games in he looks not his old self and then the calls to move get loud and then a cluster fuck of mis-communication occurs and bingo season down the swanie.
  22. Don Long interviewed for the hitting coach job today....Long spent the last three seasons as the hitting coach in Pittsburgh....cue jokes....Rubin says though he gets credit for helping Bay...
  23. Valadius wrote: I nominate Metirish to replace Charlie Samuels. Not sure what direction this piss taking is going but I like it
  24. It's a conversation we have every off season...at some point all those young studs they got in the draft should come good right?....Bobby V would have been a perfect manager for them, no offense to Hurdle.
  25. Will sign with the Mets Rubin says. According to ESPN.com's Jorge Arangure, the Mets are closing in on a deal with free agent catcher Ronny Paulino. Paulino was non-tendered by the Marlins last week, who signed John Buck to a large free agent contract this fall and didn't deem Paulino worth $2 million as a backup. The 29-year-old Paulino batted .259/.311/.354 with four home runs and 37 RBI over 316 at-bats in 2010. He still has a few games to serve on the 50-game PED suspension that he was handed in August, but would serve as Josh Thole's backup if the two sides reach an agreement. Looks like some decent competition for the catchers
