  3. I'll take the over on the Pirates , this is the year they break 75 wins for only the fifth time since 1992. Over on the Mets , under on the A's
  4. Put him in a Mayo shirt and he'd look right at home.
  5. Is he our token red headed stud on the team?
  6. I remember liking it , Kevin Kline was kind of hot property back then IIRC but that went nowhere.

By all means try and make contact that way, but if someone doesn't respond don't act like its the same as a politician refusing to comment at a press conference. It's not necessarily Rubin's fault, but more driven by the constant lust for instant comment etc that twitter has forced the media into. yeah I guess , like you said it's a big deal and your texting the guy.
  13. duan wrote: "Teufel did not immediately respond to a text message seeking comment." Does Rubin writing this not seem wrong to anyone else? not really , what are you thinking?, that he texted him or that Timmy has a smart phone , or that Rubin has one and knows how to use it , or????
  14. Edgy DC wrote: The list of things that David Wright is wildly enthusiastic about is... not short. That would make a thread. yes him and Collins will have a blast. David showing tendencies of captain type stuff in actually practicing blowing in the off season because Collins wanted to start this carry on during spring training.
  15. Couldn't help but laugh when reading this Rubin article . Mets to bowl during spring training By Adam Rubin PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- Terry Collins wants to instill team unity. So the first-year New York Mets manager suggested to stars David Wright and Jason Bay during the winter that the team ought to have weekly bowling nights during spring training. "They said, 'This is the greatest idea we've heard,' and 'let's go with it,'" Collins said. Wright particularly was receptive, practicing during the winter in his native Norfolk, Va. Wright ultimately had the high score for a single game at 259. Mike Pelfrey was second at 188. For his part, Collins bought a bowling ball with a Mets logo painted on it. The weekly bonding event kicked off on Sunday night at a bowling alley blocks from the team's spring-training facility, on the eve of the first full-squad baseball workout. "I thought it was really important with the new staff, new general manager, to try to get away from the stigma that this team is individual parts, and pull everybody together and have some fun and have some laughs," Collins said. "You know, this is a long year, starting really tomorrow. This is a marathon. And I wanted these guys to enjoy spring training a little bit and come down here in a relaxed atmosphere, so I came up with bowling." Said Wright: "I love doing stuff like that anyway, whether it's golfing, bowling. I love getting together with the guys and just having a competition like that. I guess we'll find out soon what kind of bowler I am. But if I'm going to participate, I'm going to try to go out there and win. ... I've picked up the bowling ball a few times this offseason, especially once I heard we're going to have this league. I don't want to be surprised by anything. So I practiced a little bit and I think I'm ready to go." The 61-year-old Collins suggested he can bowl as high as 190, but arthritis in his right hand can be a drag on his score if he has been overactive throwing baseballs or otherwise overexerting himself at the team's complex. As for owning a bowling ball with a Mets logo, the manager said: "When I knew I wanted to do the bowling thing, I thought it might be some laughs to have a Mets ball. So I saw the Mets ball in the pro shop here and went and bought it and here we are." Of course, with the grind of spring training, Collins isn't sure the Mets can have a spring training's worth of weekly competitions. "We're hoping that it lasts four weeks," he said, "but once we get into games and we start making moves and everything else -- and there may be meetings on Sunday nights -- I think the numbers will change. But tonight we're expecting 50-something guys." Adam Rubin covers the Mets for ESPNNewYork.com. You can follow him on Twitter. the greatest thing they ever heard?....lol....but that's Collins right?, full of energy and positivity , just saw him on SNY , yeah I'd buy what he's selling , hard not to feel positive around the guy. When he met with Castillo he tried to convince him that the dropped ball from nearly two years ago has bothered him since.....
  16. Never looked all that happy but was a likable guy , had that game which at the end of the day will be a nice cherry on a sub .500 career
  17. I'm thinking it's guys like Teufel that will go broke over this. Former New York Mets infielder Tim Teufel, currently the organization's Triple-A manager, has gotten entangled in the Bernard Madoff mess. Teufel, a Mets employee who invested with Madoff because of his association with the Wilpon family, which owns the team, is being sued by trustee Irving Picard in the same U.S. Bankruptcy Court where Mets ownership faces a $1 billion lawsuit for allegedly profiting from the Ponzi scheme, according to court records. The trustee seeks to recover $1,232,463 in "fictitious profits" -- money allegedly withdrawn over principal invested -- from Teufel for two accounts owned by his family. Unlike the lawsuit against Mets principal owner Fred Wilpon, chief operating officer Jeff Wilpon and team president Saul Katz, the suit against Teufel merely attempts to recover money alleged to have been withdrawn over principal. It does not claim Teufel knew, or should have known, about the fraud. On Feb. 19, 2010, the Teufel family had been denied a claim made with Picard for losses they alleged to have suffered in the Ponzi scheme when Madoff was arrested. Teufel did not immediately respond to a text message seeking comment. Fred Wilpon arrived at Mets camp Thursday morning and strongly said his family will be "vindicated" in the $1 billion lawsuit. "We did not know one iota, one thing about Madoff's fraud," he said. "We didn't do anything wrong. If anything, we trusted a friend for a very long time. And as I told you a few months ago, that betrayal is very difficult for me because this was a man, who, we were friends for 35 years and investors for 25 years. "Having said that, we will be vindicated. What you have been writing about are allegations. They are allegations made by the trustee. Allegations are not fact. We have to now come back and tell you what our facts are, based upon facts and based upon the law. And our lawyers are doing that and they will do that. And we will be vindicated. I can't give you the timetable. That depends on issues beyond our control. "I cannot tell you how difficult and painful the attacks have been on my family -- Saul, Jeff, myself, my grandchildren. The one thing no one ever, ever in 50 years in business questioned was my integrity." Newsday first reported the suit against Teufel. Adam Rubin covers the Mets for ESPNNewYork.com. That would wear on my pretty quickly. Not while the Mets are winning 96 games , it's when things go bad that it wears. Yeah this whole who showed up early is bollox, I'm sure the players Union is against guys showing up early.
  19. Brian Lenihan is looking for a job , maybe he can get the Wilpon's a bailout.
  20. You can buy the Mets ... February, 16, 2011 By Adam Rubin Buyer beware on the legitimacy, but this does appear in The New York Times: Richard Sandomir interviews the leaders of BuyTheMets.com, which is trying to solicit pledges via the internet to raise money to purchase the team and the Wilpons' share of SNY. Web site founder Bill Heyn acknowledges it's a "long shot ... but we think it will work." Shares would cost $999. Of course, as Sandomir notes: "One obstacle in trying to turn the Mets into a New York version of the community-owned Green Bay Packers is a Major League Baseball rule that the lead investor own at least 10 percent of the team and control 90 percent of the voting shares." http://buythemets.com/

  23. [Comment From CoreyNYC] Why do you seemingly hate the Mets, their fans, and the entire organization? 2:12 Hmm. There are a lot of smart-alecky answers running through my head, but I'll give sincerity a shot here. It is strange that a reader would think any beat writer loves or hates the organization he or she covers. We don't care. My outlook on the Mets is SO different from yours. I quite like covering the Mets; I find them interesting. Don't really care if they win or lose, though. 2:13 It's also funny that everyone in Philly thinks I'm a Mets fan. Just proves the fallacy of assuming a beat writer has any particular allegience.
