  2. Happy trails Mike, good guy, can't believe it was 2005 when he got traded from the Mets, time flies.
  3. Met Hunter wrote: I really just did a check to see where the number stood. It is a great reference site, as is yours. Seeing how you are a numbers guy, I will break down a couple things for you. Deceased Met players: 1-Gil Hodges 10-Cal Koonce 20-John Milner 25-Dick Selma 30-Tug McGraw 40-Bill Graham 50-Tom Sturdivant 60-Gary Carter And heres one more. At the time of the September 11th attacks, the Met count was at 666. Ironically it was C.J. Nitkowski, a deeply religious man. How's that for a bad omen? I'm sure you guys on this site already knew this. never knew that, C.J. Nitkowski played for the Mets?.....kidding
  4. Seriously, I want to hear Monk say chuffed in his Fargo like accent......that's how you talk right? eh? acting the maggot, can't beat it
  5. Nice career, wanted to look up his numbers versus the MFY's but Baseball Reference is a real pain in the arse these days, used to be you could click on career and go from there......
  6. Met Hunter wrote: This is Keith Hernandez's take on Game 6. I think this is why we all loved Gary the player: "He got us rolling, and I think that's very important to point out," he said. "I had a lot of clutch hits in my career. And I had a chance to do what he did, and I feel that I failed. But Gary got it done. He was the right guy for that situation. He was stronger than I was. I wasn't afraid of those situations. But he welcomed them. It wasn't just about ability. It was about his approach, his makeup. He wanted to be the hero. And you've got to have a player like that. wow, is that a recent take or historical?
  7. Just been watching some Carter stuff on Youtube, watching Gary as an Expo reminds how much I miss that team. great article from TK
  8. Rest in peace
  9. Ike is back
  10. Stuck in an awful traffic jam going down the Sprain Brook Parkway yesterday I got bored and tuned to the Wfan just in time for Alderson on with Francesa....can I start of by saying I hate how almost any regular guest feeds Mike's ample ego by constantly saying " you know as well as I do Mike"......ugh, no he doesn't; really. leadoff hitter will more likely be one of Torres , Murphy or Tejada, none are ideal candidates Sandy says , Francesa thinks it's too much to ask of Tejada to play SS and hit leadoff, said it several times just in case Alderson didn't hear him. Roster is likely set, maybe one or two spots to fight for , thinks this team will surprise fans.......terrible negativity around the team he understands that. In regards to payroll reduction a lot of fans don't seem to realize that a lot of that deduction occurred with Castillo and Ollie jettisoned when Beltran and Frankie got traded.... I like Alderson and trust that he will do the job, just hope the constraints don't get worse.

  12. Noting shocking in this interview but............Costas pressed Bobby on the likelihood that Red Sox Front Office types and ownership like to make "suggestions" to the manager on his line up card....."that happened with the Rangers, it happened with the Mets, Steve Phillips would do it......even Fred Wilpon did it a few times, it's nothing new and for the most part I took on those suggestions, hey how about hinting this guy 6 or 4, sometimes I was looking for answers and they can come from anywhere".....paraphrasing there but that was the gist....it's nothing new Bob.
  13. Love Valentine but for fucks sake Costas spent half the show trying to put down that moneyball nonsense, had to laugh at how he kept looking for Valentine's agreement in his view of moneyball.
  14. G-Fafif wrote: DVR Alert (or just watch): Monday night, 9 o'clock, Bobby V with Bob Costas on MLB Network. Good old days to be discussed in addition to whatever our former skipper is doing now. @MLBNetwork Close Valentine on Rickey Henderson not running balls out: "The third time he did that in a Mets uniform was the last time" #Studio42 at 9pE the third time in the third voice?
  15. Hard to get overly excited about a guy ho hasn't pitched since September 2010, hard to get excited about Torres in CF, if he stinks or gets injured who plays CF. I understand what Alderson is doing but it's a stretch at best.
  16. War What is it good for Absolutely nothing A.J. Burnett What is he good for Absolutely nothing War and Burnett is something that I despise Huh
  17. A's land Cespedes with four-year contract http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20120213&content_id=26674580&vkey=news_mlb&c_id=mlb
  18. Some tweets suggest that a long with Jones the Pirates would need to throw in $10 million of that $33.......that to me still sounds a little rich for the Pirates...2y/$23 could surely get better value for that money?
  19. I just bought it, for $2:50....looking forward to reading it.
  20. Exactly , it's only been a few tweets but I like the route Alderson has taken here, he could have gone all official but what fun would that have been? Of course it's a fine line and ten game losing streaks might not be the best place for it, still I appreciate the piss taking.
  21. Interesting, she would seem to be credible.
  22. Seriously some Mets fans, actually a lot of Mets fan need to cop the fuck on with themselves... Alderson joined twitter and his second tweet causes quite a stir among some fans Sandy Alderson @MetsGM We're driving to St. Lucie because our dog (Buddy) doesnt like to fly. His complaint: Where I sit, no lights and no stews. Sandy Alderson @MetsGM Getting ready for Spring Training-Driving to FL but havent left yet. Big fundraiser tonight for gas money. Also exploring PAC contribution. it's him as confirmed by Buckhart on Hot Stove yesterday
  23. JCL's kid, figures. Dock Doyle on the pipe?
  24. Gotta be Harvey and he's there The Mets announced yesterday that they have invited top pitching prospect Matt Harvey to major-league camp in Port St. Lucie, Fla. It's very likely more of a reward than it is a chance to win a major-league roster spot. Harvey, the Mets' first-round pick (seventh overall) in 2010, enjoyed a successful first pro season, with 156 strikeouts in 135 2/3 innings. He began the season with Class A St. Lucie before graduating to Double-A Binghamton. He turns 23 in March, so he isn't too young to pitch at the highest level. Yet the Mets have brought along their young players more deliberately since Sandy Alderson took over as general manager. The Mets also announced that outfielder Matt den Dekker, their fifth-round selection of the 2010 draft, would receive an invitation to major-league spring training. Dekker totaled 17 homers last year with St. Lucie and Binghamton.
  25. That's what the drink will do to ya........won't be so fucking smug now on YES eh Bob?
