So Jays pitcher Anthony Bass posts a video claiming that according to his stupid fucking bible, the LGBTQ community is "evil and demonic". I guess Bass doesn't know anything about how his religion is rife with gay pastors and priests who've been sexually molesting and abusing thousands and thousands and thousands of kids and teens for longer than I've been alive. Oh, the audacity of those "Sisters" to mock his religion. What an ignoramus scumbag.
  4. It's Kooz because he looks exactly like Kooz. Also, Kooz was on deck when Weis homered, thus the batting helmet. The "butt on the right" is Agee.

  6. L-R: Clendenon, Seaver and Kooz.

  8. =G-Fafif post_id=127069 time=1685556181 user_id=55] The 1916 Philadelphia A's were statistically worse than the 1962 Mets: 36-117 for a winning percentage of. 235, behind our Originators' .250. If the 2023 A's go 38-124, they'll be a fitting sequel to their A'scestors.

  10. =G-Fafif post_id=127063 time=1685554450 user_id=55] Dates are deceptive unless every game corresponds. When one season begins April 11 and the other begins March 30, there's little semblance of parallel.
  11. I've been working these comparisons myself recently. I'm rooting for the A's to win. btw. That worst record business is a Mets record I enjoy and would prefer that the Mets hold on to. If that's how youse feel, the good news is that even if the A's are on pace to finish worse than the '62 Mets, it wont take much for the A's to ultimately win more than a quarter of their games because the w-l are so dreadful to begin with. When your winning percentage is so low, it's easy to improve on it.
  12. Edgy MD wrote: Also, the Pads picked Joey Fuego in the fourth round. Yeah. I must've hit a wrong.button or something because the BRef draft page is a tiny bit complicated. That first round is looking a little bit better than I first thought but overall, it's still incredibly crappy.
  13. Edgy MD wrote: [Anthony Kay is trying to login] Hah. It didn't feel right when I wrote Aaron Kay but I couldn't figure out what it was. Also, the Mets had two first round picks that year, the other pick being Justin Dunn.
  14. I'm totally with FK here. They're trying to make a tight two hour movie, like always. If the story could be told without the 9/11 tragedy, it should. The Chad Bradford factual alteration makes perfect sense from a movie storytelling perspective because Bradford epitomizes the sabermetrics philosophy adopted by the A's: the unorthodox looking pitcher who is nevertheless, extremely effective stat-wise. So the scriptwriters had Oakland acquire Bradford for 2002 to better demonstrate the A's philosophy shift. Very few true story movies are 100% accurate. I watched Bohemian Rhapsody last week and Queen was performing Fat Bottomed Girls years before the song was actually written. This week I saw Black Mass, which absolves practically the whole Boston FBI other than two agents, of complicity in the Bulger scandal and ignores entirely that rogue agent Connoly was also on the take. Makes you wonder what Connoly's motivation was. Moneyball is about 20 years old and I've never heard anybody mention the missing 9/11 angle. It would've needlessly cluttered the movie.
  15. Was checking out the 2016 MLB June draft, where the Mets drafted Alonso late in the 2nd round (25th pick, 66th overall), two picks before the Jays drafted Bo Bichette. Alonso, Bryan Reynolds (also 2nd round), Bichette and Shane Bieber (4th round) are the prizes of that draft. Alonso might very well be the best pick of that draft as things are turning out. The first round was an unmitigated disaster, with the most productive first round pick, to date, might be Padres selection and current Met Joey Lucchesi. The Mets first round pick in 2016 was pitcher Aaron Kay.
  16. =ashie62 post_id=126962 time=1685482468 user_id=90] It can become a culture wars vent at times Not saying I'm right in any way at all but it makes me uncomfortable to read here at CPF on the baseball side

  20. I like how he starts off by writing that a baseball game is a place for people from all walks of life to be included. Then he goes on for like a hundred paragraphs how that group intentionally offends his religion but without ever explaining why or how. What a bunch of primitive neanderthal savages most of us are, believing that the universe is controlled by an invisible magician who floats in the sky and makes everything happen. It's nuttier than Jack and the Beanstalk. What an ignoramus this guy is.
  21. Some people call me Maurice. I'm smart! Not like everybody says... like dumb... I'm smart and I want respect! I have never been a quitter. To leave office before my term is completed is abhorrent to every instinct in my body. Forget it, Jake. 22. Don't know if this tale was mentioned here or on a Mets broadcast, but it keeps on pooping up on my news feed: Mets' Pete Alonso hit first-pitch homer because he had to poop: ‘Straight to the bathroom' https://nypost.com/2023/05/27/mets-pete-alonso-hit-first-pitch-homer-because-he-had-to-poop/https://nypost.com/2023/05/27/mets-pete-alonso-hit-first-pitch-homer-because-he-had-to-poop/
  23. Rangers manager Bruce Bochy sez Jacob deGrom could return in two or three weeks. Could. If so, when deGrom returns, he will have missed about two thirds of this season almost halfway into it.
  24. Correa hasnt been an elite fielder for two years, now. I dont see where you wrote that you weren't considering defense. You simply wrote about Lindor's "track record". It seemed to me that you neglected, rather than purposely skipped defense.
  25. Frayed Knot wrote: =TransMonk post_id=126640 time=1685112114 user_id=71] Carlos Correa: 169 AB, 36 H, 6 HR, 14 R, .213/.302/.396/.698 While I think he can improve toward his career numbers, I can't help but think a bullet was dodged here. Mets fans would not abide those numbers on this team as We're kind of abiding those numbers from Lindor, or at least pretty close to them [.226/.302/407 // 709] What's helping Lindor out is a better track record here rather than just arriving from out of town as Correa would be doing. But both are having the same type of season: the walks are there, the XBs are there, just not the BA.
