  1. I'm surprised that this was ever a mystery on this forum. What? Nobody here knew that story?
  2. If Kershaw doesn't pitch another inning this season, Dickey would have to pitch nine and 2/3 innings without allowing an earned run in order to pass Kershaw in ERA.
  3. If the voters made their selections while pretending not to know the pitchers' won-loss records (not necessarily a bad approach, according to me) then Kershaw would probably win the Cy Young award in a unanimous landslide. If the season ended last night.

  10. Kershaw is slated to start tonight. The Dodgers have six games remaining, so Kershaw can also pitch the Dodgers last game of the season on normal rest. According to some reports though, Kershaw, because of his hip, will be shut down if the Dodgers are mathematically eliminated from playoff contention. The Dodgers cannot win their division, but are three games behind the Cards for the last Wild Card play-in slot. Benjamin Grimm wrote: (How many more starts does Kershaw have?) One, maybe two.

He actually retired the first two outs on just four pitches total but then lost his control and threw in a bases-clearing double (Darin Ruf) for good measure. He then tossed up a blank in the 2nd but his pitch count has got to be way up there already. After falling behind 3-1 in the 1st inning, Nats score the next five runs. 6-3 Nats after six and a half. Gio in line for his 21st Win -- a serious crimp in RA's triple crown bid. http://scores.espn.go.com/mlb/boxscore?gameId=320927122&teams=washington-nationals-vs-philadelphia-phillies
  12. Seaver in 1971, like RA today, also struck out 13 batters in his 20th win game. Seaver repeated the 13K/20th Win double the following season. Koosman turned that trick in 1976.
  13. Game notes The Mets drew 2,242,803 to Citi Field this year, down from 3.15 million in 2009, 2.56 million in 2010 and [crossout]3.52[/crossout] 2.35 million last year. This is the team's lowest home attendance since 2.19 million at Shea Stadium in 2003. ... Mets broadcaster Keith Hernandez shaved off his mustache before the game in a charity fundraiser. .... http://scores.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=320927121 That's a y-o-y drop of 36.4%. Are you sure we drew 3.5 mills last year and not 2.5?!? (looking up) Baseball-reference has 2011 attendance at 2.352. Down 4.7% this year. Game Notes were apparently corrected during last 10 minutes. http://scores.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=320927121

  17. And Dickey takes his turn at bat. Not that Terry isn't capable of relieving RA to start the 8th, just the same.

  22. If they can finish 20 games out with him, they can finish 20 games out without him.
