Edgy MD wrote: This will also speak to hitting metrics, as it will reveal more clearly whether a guy got that double because he walloped the ball at a trajectory and to a place where 83% of balls fall for doubles, or it benevolently fell in at a spot where and with such a force whereas only a mere 14% of balls are so lucky. I'd like to see the technology developed where this data can even be retroactively calculated based on available video. Come on, NASA, get with the program. This is the future of batting analytics. I'd rather have this data over any other, because if I know how hard a player is hitting the baseball, and can account for trajectory, thus knowing how much time it takes for a batter's batted balls to reach their landing spots, I can formulate algorithms that should tell me what his batting average, his slugging percentage, his home run rate should be. These stats should correlate very positively with how hard the batter hits the ball. The harder the ball is hit, the faster it gets to its landing spot -- the less time a fielder has to generate an out. I''ll also know which batters are overly lucky or unlucky, and whether a batter's stats are sustainable and repeatable. And if a player's stats are significantly better than his hit tracking data suggests, well that player is either lucky, or he's got mad Ichiro/Rod Carew skills to aim or place the batted ball -- i.e., hit 'em where they ain't.

Life of Pam and Danny Frisella March 03, 2014, 05:00 AM By Sue Lempert Everyone seems to know former Foster City councilwoman Pam Frisella. But there was a time when she was just known as Dannys wife. Danny Frisella was a Major League pitcher who spent most of his career with the New York Mets. He was a graduate of Serra High and the schools baseball stadium is named in his honor. The field is named after Barry Bonds, but thats another story. Danny graduated from Serra in 1963. He was a star baseball player there. After a year at CSM and two years at Washington State, he was drafted by the Atlanta Braves but he opted to go with the Mets. His baseball career had its ups and downs (at one point he was cut by the Mets his competition was Nolan Ryan), until he met Pam. Then, according to her, it was mostly up. They met on a blind date with her sister and her sisters boyfriend, also a Serra grad. It was love at first sight but they barely had time to know each other before Danny went back to the Mets. The couple married in 1971. Pam was pregnant with their first child when Danny was traded to Atlanta in 1973. In two years, he was traded to San Diego. The baseball wives hung out together when their husbands were playing away games. But it was a frenetic life. Always on the move and little possibility for a baseball wife to hold a job because her husband was always being traded. Just before opening day, Danny was traded to St. Louis. He had to leave right away but Pam was left to do the packing. They were in St. Louis for two months before he was traded to Milwaukee. *** Danny Frisella was a player on and off the field. He had a positive and joyful attitude toward life. He explained the trades as someone wanting him rather than someone wanting to let him go. When Pam was pregnant with their second child, Danny decided he wanted to play just two more years. Then he and Pam would open a jewelry store in La Jolla. That was their plan, their dream. Danny went off with the stores owner in the latters dune buggy. The buggy hit an obstacle in the sand and Danny was killed. They had been married just six years. Pam was seven months pregnant when she got the news. Fortunately, her parents were visiting at the time. Her wide network of family, baseball wives and Serra friends came to the rescue. And most important, the Major League Baseball Association took good care of her and her children. Pam found a place to live in Foster City. She moved in on Wednesday and her second child was born on Saturday. That was 37 years ago. *** The way Pam describes Danny is the way I think of Pam full of life, always smiling, always doing something extraordinary. Before she met Danny, she played womens professional football in Detroit. Position-defensive safety. She met Father John Kelly at her husbands funeral. Friends said she had to meet Kelly because he was Dannys favorite Serra teacher. Kelly became a close friend. Even though Pam was a Lutheran, she became a member of Kellys church. He left the church and the priesthood several years later and devoted his life to nonprofit work and helping others. He started Samaritan House. Pam was at his side, helping with fundraisers and organizing volunteers. Through Kellys influence and raising her two boys, she had a purpose in life something for which to live. She realized she didnt want to be a victim. She wanted to make sure that Danny made the right choice when he married her. Today, Pam is Kellys advocate. She makes sure he has the proper medical care, housing and other needs since he suffered a stroke last year. She is by his side as he was by hers after Danny died. *** When she decided to run for City Council in Foster City in 2005 (she has lived in the same house all these years), I validated that I was Pam Frisella in my own right. Occasionally, she runs into someone who says, Oh, youre Danny wife. But most people just say Hi, Pam. Frisella was termed out in 2013 but does not plan to run again. Recycling should be left to Recology, not politics, she explained. However, she is sharing her energy with several nonprofit boards, the Police Activities League and HEART (Housing Endowment And Regional Trust to create more affordable housing the in the county). How many votes do voters get each round? More than one. I'll have a better idea of how many first round votes each contestant gets when I know how many people entered the contest, and thus, how many contestants will advance to the next round. Get Beatley. Here's a sneak peek at some of the Liverpool to Crane Pool rules: It's a two round tournament, with no head to head matchups. In each of the two rounds, all of the song parodies will be placed in one thread. There will be one poll per round. The first round parodies receiving the most votes will advance to the second and final round. Almost half of the contestants will advance to the second and final round. The tournament championship will be awarded to the contestant whose second round parody receives the most votes. For that MetSPeak bullshit from last week about how the Mets have an $85M payroll because they're being fiscally prudent.
-
Well, yeah, I suppose WFAN woulda kept the Mets if they could get the broadcasting rights for free. But WFAN was losing money on the Mets -- their ad revenue was less than what WFAN was paying the Mets for the braodcasting rights.

Didn't WFAN dump the Mets? (I don't remember the Mets leaving WFAN).

Rips of Mets' Ruben Tejada irk David Wright The anonymous comments painted Tejada as still seemingly out of shape after he spent much of his winter in Michigan working out to try to win back his job as the Mets starting shortstop. By Kristie Ackert / NEW YORK DAILY NEWS PORT ST. LUCIE Put a name on it. That is what Mets captain David Wright had to say to whoever was the anonymous source taking shots at Ruben Tejada in the press this week. Thats one of my biggest pet peeves in all of baseball, Wright said. If youre going to criticize the guy, put your name behind it. The anonymous comments painted Tejada as still seemingly out of shape after he spent much of his winter in Michigan working out to try to win back his job as the Mets starting shortstop. General manager Sandy Alderson said the organization had some reasonable options, but right now the 24-year-old is the Mets No. 1 choice at short as they enter into Grapefruit League play. That, however, does not rule out the Mets making a move before Opening Day, Alderson has conceded. While the Mets have not made an offer to free-agent shortstop Stephen Drew, they are not opposed to making a deal if his demands come down considerably. Alderson said Wednesday, however, that he had not had any conversations with Drews representatives recently. The Mets are also watching Mariners infielder Nick Franklin very closely this spring, a team source confirmed. The Mets like Franklins power, but are concerned about his ability to play shortstop every day, according to the source. With the signing of Robinson Cano this offseason and with Brad Miller already established at shortstop, the Mariners are at least willing to talk about dealing Franklin. But Wednesday, with the criticism of Tejada still lingering, Alderson also said he was disappointed. It is unfair that comments of that sort (were) made, Alderson said. Its not something that I am proud of in terms how it necessarily represents the organization. Alderson went on to say that even though he can not discern much of a difference from looking at Tejada, the organization was happy with his commitment and approach this spring. I think were happy with the attitude he demonstrated in the offseason, Alderson said of the embattled shortstops time training in Michigan. I think weve seen greater enthusiasm. Ive always felt from his standpoint it was more about his mental and emotional approach to the game than his capability. Taking all those things into account, were pleased. While the Mets are pleased Tejada showed commitment in the offseason, Alderson said it has to translate to the field to make a difference. Wright seems to think is will. This is the best shape I have seen him come into spring in, the third baseman said, and I can see he is moving around a lot better out there. Tejada is trying to win back his job after a brutal 2013. He hit .202 in 57 games, and was demoted and twice injured. He showed up to spring training in 2013 heavy and slow. Terry Collins said Tejada will get plenty of chances to prove his critics wrong this spring. At this moment, Ruben Tejada is the shortstop here, he said. Weve got to be patient with him, get him a number of at-bats this spring. Hes been told that and well see how he plays. We dont have a lot of options. Hes the guy right now. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/mets/ain-wright-rips-ruben-irk-david-article-1.1703276 _____________________________ Carlos Beltran slams anonymous critics of former Mets teammate Ruben Tejada 'If you have something to say, come forward and say it,' Beltran defied those who have gone off the record with negative stories about Tejada, who played with Tejada in 2010 and 2011. By Andy Martino / NEW YORK DAILY NEWS Wednesday, February 26, 2014, 9:45 PM BRADENTON, Fla. Carlos Beltrans Yankee experience began with Wednesdays game, as he trotted from a dugout for the first time alongside new teammates such as Brian McCann and Jacoby Ellsbury. And while the longtime Met is enjoying his new job, he did spend a few moments wondering about the drama in Port St. Lucie. Whats going on with (Ruben) Tejada? Beltran asked in the Yankees clubhouse, referring to the extended cycle of negativity surrounding the young shortstop. Mets officials have long criticized Tejada, on the record and anonymously, for his work ethic and conditioning, and that pattern continued this week. This struck Beltran, who has endured similar experiences, as unfair. Anonymous? Beltran said. Come on. Anonymous? Come forward, brother. If you have something to say, come forward and say it. Beltran said that when a young player such as Tejada sees negative stories about him, he is affected. Imagine, he said. Of course, it has to make you feel bad. Horrible. When you see all that coming out, you feel bad about yourself, and feel bad about the whole situation. The best way to solve that is by communicating. Not in the papers. You solve things by talking to the person. Person-to-person. Beltran played with Tejada in 2010 and 2011, and was impressed. Sometimes when youre quiet and you dont say much, and you respond back with a smile, some people misunderstand, Beltran said. Maybe they start putting a stamp on him, that he is that type of guy. But my experience with him is that he is a great kid, and I love him. In Port St. Lucie on Wednesday, Mets general manager Sandy Alderson told MLB Network radio: Look, we have probably 30 front office and coaching staff down here. Theres going to be a stray comment about players from time to time. Thats unfortunately the nature of the media in New York. Over in Tampa, Beltran could only chuckle at the situation. Im not surprised, he said, shaking his head and laughing. No, Im not surprised. By anything anymore. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/mets/beltran-slams-anonymous-critics-ex-mets-mate-tejada-article-1.1703284#ixzz2uXZ8PG9u

I saw American Hustle in the movie theater last December. Wanna know why? OK. I'll tell you why. Because I saw the trailer for American Hustle on TV, featuring the opening track on Led Zeppelin's debut album -- Good Times, Bad Times -- and decided right then and there that I hadda hear that song on a big screen, coming out of gigantic movie theater speakers. Whatta gyp. The song wasn't even in the movie. Just the trailer. I hope they paid a fucking fortune to license that song. Talk about an american hustle. pRyb9wH91cs

Wait a second. The Mets can afford to make cold calls? -
From Grantland's NRI round-up: New York Mets: Noah Syndergaard, RHP Hey, look, its another really good, really big right-handed pitching prospect with star potential. Syndergaard, another casualty of Torontos cash-in-prospects-and-go-for-it-now spree last winter, is one of two starting pitching prospects snagged by GM Sandy Alderson in what now look like major heists. (Getting Syndergaard and catcher Travis dArnaud for R.A. Dickey was one, getting Zack Wheeler for a Carlos Beltran summer rental was the other.) Syndergaard is a 6-foot-6, 240-pound hoss of a Texan who fanned 133 batters (against just 28 walks) over 117? innings last year between the high Single-A and Double-A levels. The Mets added reinforcements over the winter by signing players like Bartolo Colon and Curtis Granderson, but theyre probably still not contenders meaning they wont have much incentive to rush Syndergaard. A 2015 rotation with a healthy Matt Harvey, Wheeler, and Syndergaard at the top could be big trouble for the rest of the NL East, though. Cleveland Indians: Jeff Francoeur, Designated Punim Look at this face and tell me you wouldnt want this guy on your team. While Francoeur never quite became Roy Hobbs, hes historically been a very playable outfielder when used in a platoon role; in 2011, he hit .302/.363/.570 against left-handed pitchers while showing off his always present rocket arm in right field. Francoeur was absolutely terrible offensively the last two years, and his speed and defensive range dipped as well. Hes still just 30 years old, though, and if he played in a platoon with David Murphy while making a maximum of $1 million, Francoeur could still prove to be a useful piece for a contending team.
