Nah. Those cards were done months ago. I made about 30 Mets cards New Judge style. And that other style card was part of a crazy stalled project. I set out to do an entire set of 2015 cards -- one card for every single player who played a game. Players who played on multiple teams were to get multiple cards -- one for every team. So, for example, I did three Clippard cards, an A's, a Nats and a Mets card. I didn't even come close to finishing that idea. But I did do the entire Mets team. All I did today was stick that "Banned" stamp on one of the cards. If I was gonna do a Mejia card today from scratch, I woulda put Mejia on a '72 traded card, substituting "BANNED" for "TRADED". Here's the New Judge panel for Mejia, available on specially marked cartons of New Judge Cigarettes. [fimg=1033]https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1611/24357915924_da6bfcbaac_o.jpg[/fimg]

  3. My best Clippard memory is probably his MLB debut with the Bronx team against us. As a Met, he was pretty good right up until he wasn't.

Yeah, but then in 2028 you have to have the "do we retire 36 for deGrom or Koos?" debate. If I owned the Mets, Kooz's number would've been retired a long time ago. And 8 would be circulating. I think that the Met "thing" that makes the least sense to me is that Carter should be next in line to have his number retired.

Tyson would see him strike an authentic boxing stance and the instincts would take over. That's not true. Tyson visited the Mets at Shea that season, in part, to specifically meet Ray Knight (the visit was documented in various publicity shots depicting Tyson play-punching it out with Doc and Darryl, like the photo above). Tyson even presented Knight with a set of his boxing gloves as a gift, and signed them "From one slugger to another", alluding to Knight's fight with Eric Davis. 8. The joke's on Sarony. He's dead and his copyright's expired.

  11. The answer we were looking for is "BIG DEAD MACHINE". Thank you for playing. Losing participants will receive a four piece jigsaw puzzle of the photo below, which depicts Erhardt's sign and maybe even a hooky playing Zvon. 12. Alright. I'm posting the answer in the next five or ten minutes.

Eh, they're still freaking awesome. I think Keith preferred the traditional look -- buttons all the way up and down the jersey and no racing stripes.
  16. Zvon wrote: Who's the guy in the Mets dugout standing -- lined up in the photo behind a crouching Mays -- with the glasses with the plastic looking frames? I can't think of anybody on the '73 WS roster who even remotely looks like that Met.
  17. metsmarathon wrote: I absolutely unequivocally love love love love this. They're just the coolest uniforms ever. Me and Keith disagree.
  18. I have a shot from Spring Training March '64 that depicted what was, at the time of the photo, probably supposed to be the Mets outfield of that upcoming season -- Altman, Hickman, Thomas and Snider. Altman and Hickman held up their ends but Snider was sent to the Giants a couple of weeks after that photo was taken and Thomas was traded to the Phillies during the '64 season. Joe Christopher (not pictured) got most of the other OF innings.
  19. The photo I'll post at the end of this quiz looks like it was taken from around the Mets on deck circle pointing towards the Reds dugout. Most of the foreground is the front of the portion of the Reds dugout that's closer to home plate rather than third base. The fans already on the field aren't too densely packed in yet, so it appears that the photo was shot right after, or even right before, the last out was officially recorded.

Was it about The Big Red Machine? OE: Oh, started this before the posts above. If you were that close, then maybe you're in my picture. Because when I get around to posting the answer to this quiz, I'll post an accompanying picture that includes Erhardt's sign as well as fans storming the field in front of the Reds dugout. OO,kool. I hope someday there is video discovered of the last few innings. Cause I know for sure I was shown on TV during that time. Let me take a look at my picture. Do you remember what you were wearing? How did you get on the field? Did you jump onto the field from the visiting dugout roof?

  24. Chad Ochoseis wrote: PETE ROSE IS AN ASSHOLE ...no clue, but given the hint, I gotta believe it's Rose-related. You're not reading the clues properly. I hinted that Erhardt's sign was topical. A "PETE ROSE IS AN ASSHOLE" sign, on the other hand, is universal, and would work just as well whether the Mets opponents are the Reds, or, say, the Padres. Let's turn this quiz into a Wheel of Fortune variant. The first word in Erhardt's sign was .... "BIG".
  25. batmagadanleadoff wrote: Youse are gonna hafta up your games to win this quiz. Erhardt's sign was a lot more clevererer than the stuff youse are coming up with. Here's a hint: Karl's sign was topical. It wouldn't have worked in the WS, for example.
