  1. The 2001 World Series was objectively perfect. The MFY fans got a seven-game "distraction" from all that was going on (that was the line, that this set of baseball games was important because it provided a respite from all the bad news facing New Yorkers/MFY fans, who were mistakenly thought to be the same thing) along with three home wins, two of them breathtaking (or disgusting). The rest of us got a glorious ending. The whole thing lasted seven games and it was chock full of drama. Couldn't ask for a better or longer distraction, more memorable highlights and, at last, a more thrilling conclusion to the dynasty nonsense. So much of the country had pledged "we're all New Yorkers now." I saw nothing wrong with returning the favor to Arizona for the duration.
  2. MFY fan calls Somers after Klap leaves and tells us "Metropolitan" fans should be ashamed of themselves because of 9/11 -- we all have to stick together. Prove to me Philadelphia attacked the World Trade Center, and I'm with you, pal.
  3. Klap just said "Rivera's not perfect." Take away his BBWAA card!
  4. Bob "Soft Rain" Klapisch just told Steve Somers he was surprised that the Angels made the MFYs work a little in the playoffs. Indeed, it was quite a stunner that a division champion didn't roll over and die at the mere thought of being on the same field as Derek Jeter.

  6. Tug wore a Phillies cap too and we looked past that.
  7. I understand that the way Citi Field is configured for Bar Mitzvahs, you can see only seven of the Ten Commandments clearly.
  8. I will be attending an actual Citi Field Bar Mitzvah in a few weeks and will report back.
  9. I can't stand Brian Fuentes. I can't say I had much of an opinion on him prior to this series.
  10. Once upon a time, a manager leaves a starter in to face Scioscia in an LCS game and it proves lethal. Twenty-one years later, Scioscia takes a starter out in an LCS game and it proves disastrous.
  11. My best day (unless Edgy tells me differently) was July 25 in Houston, when my new team was still breathing in the Wild Card race and I kept us on life support a little longer by homering and driving in four runs to smash the Astros 10-3. I loved becoming a Second-HAlf Met. Too bad our playoff hopes wound up a sham, but I'm just happy to be here. Can't imagine Andy Green wasn't thrilled either.
  12. I'm Don Zimmer, 1962 Met who would have fit right in with the 2009 club. I never did much care for alphabetical order.
  13. I'm Ramon Castro. My best day of 2009 was clearly July 23. I caught a perfect game. That I was wearing a White Sox uniform doesn't make any less wonderful. Second-best day? Besides May 29, when I found out I wouldn't have to be a Met anymore? Let's say it was May 14, when I provided the ninth-inning RBI to insure we'd beat Brian Wilson and the Giants. I wonder if Ryan Church even remembers being a Met.
  14. Whenever Steve Phillips thinks "play the field" and "Hundley," it's usually a disaster.
  15. Emil Brown here. I got a start in Washington on June 6. I passed Luis Castillo on the basepath. He played on the same team as me. Not my best day, I suppose, but surely my most memorable. Will somebody please get Robinson Cancel up in here?
  16. I thought we were just mimicking management and pushing Robinson out the door as quickly as possible.
  17. I've never seen so much enthusiasm to get Robinson Cancel to the podium.
  18. I'm Lance Broadway and any day somebody didn't make the porn star joke about my name was an awesome day for me. I usually pitched in lost causes, but I did throw two scoreless innings against the Braves on September 16, which is a game that we didn't lose until the ninth, which wasn't my fault, so that would be my entry. Say, there's a knock on the door. Why, it's the pizza delivery guy...and his name is Emil Brown! Wokka wokka wokka...
