  1. John Stearns hit his first homer at Wrigley Field, apparently before the douchey "throw it back" code was enforced. Joe Piganatano got the attention of whoever caught it and offered to exchange him another ball. Guy asked for a bat. So he gave him a bat. A "how about..." one-upping negotiation doesn't seem too greedy or out of line. But screw the O's fan. Give Carter another ball, tell him it's home run and he'll just tear the cover off it anyway. 'Cause he's The Animal.
  2. Benjamin Grimm wrote: That's what I want too. Seven or eight Carters and one or two Barajases. I believe the proper plural for Barajas is Barajii.
  3. Metsies heading for the Cuyahoga, where the visiting baseball team as opposed to the river itself will be on fire.
  4. First three-game road series sweep of an Interleague opponent since...ever! (We took three at MFYS II, but that included a makeup weeks after the first two wins.) Only InterSweeps prior to this one were at Shea: Tigers in '04, MFYs in '04, A's in '07 plus Blue Jays all three times they came to Shea: '97, '99, '01.
  5. Wright 3.0 Bay 2.5 Carter 2.0 Pelfrey 2.0 Cora 0.5
  6. 5-0 cushion. Here's hoping hot weather and bandbox dimensions only work against old Braves pitchers, not young Mets.
  7. Wigginton to Feliciano: "Take me with you, bro. I can show you cool stuff in Queens!"
  8. Boy does Mazzone's head hurt, wherever it is today.
  9. Jesus saves...the baseball from his first big league hit.
  10. "Donovan! Where's Animal?" Nice topical reference there.
  11. You're bringing out the ANIMAL in me!
  12. Bay does the right thing -- not hitting it to Adam Jones.
  13. This inning calls for some Old Bay Seasoning.
  14. When a 1999 Brave gives up a home run to a Met, an angel gets its wings. And Leo Mazzone bumps his head on the dugout wall.
  15. mil-HOUSE! (Today it works.)
  16. mil-HOUSE! mil-HOUSE! mil-HOUSE What I chanted from the Mezzanine at Kevin Millwood eleven years ago. (Not that it worked.)
  17. He recovers to get Peralta, his fourth K in two innings. Stephen Strasburg's still pretty motherf*cking great. Nine innings pitched: 18 strikeouts, lifetime ERA of 2.00.
  18. I saw that McD commercial for the first time (twice) during last night's game, the one where the girl is drinking the iced tea and it forms a straw tan on her chin. They just showed it and I am already immensely sick of it.
  19. Travis Hafner solves Strasburg for the kid's second gopher. If Costas were doing the game, he'd note how many home runs Robin Roberts gave up.
  20. Pelf vs. Millwood is the pitching matchup.
  21. On TBS right NOW!: The 'Burg retires the Tribe 1-2-3 to begin his first road start ever. Buck Martinez's hair, I swear, is a dead ringer for the George Washington wig the kid's Nat teammates stuck on his head after the game the other night. You can listen to Bob Costas testily defend his "Walter Johnson, move over" hyperbole with Dan Patrick here.
  22. Did Coach Buttermaker get halfway through filling out his lineup card and then look down the bench and ask "Who hasn't played lately?"
