  3. Dr Pepper -- second-best thing to come from Waco, Tex.
  4. Mets need two runs without a home run to set a team record for that.
  5. Tejada 1.0 Bay 0.5
  6. The Mets at night Were dull not bright Deep in the Heart of Texas! Now to shine in daytime... Jose Reyes - SS Willie Harris - DH Carlos Beltran - RF Daniel Murphy - 3B Angel Pagan - CF Lucas Duda - 1B Josh Thole - C Jason Pridie - LF Ruben Tejada - 2B Jonathon Niese - LHP

More winning! 070: 1972 -- Everybody but Leron Lee cooperates with Tom Seaver 071: 1963 -- Everybody but Jimmy Piersall puts one foot in front of the other 072: 1964 -- Everybody but Warren Spahn doesn't start an 8-run inning against the Mets Also... 070: 1990 -- Eleven wins in a row for the fourth (and thus far last) time ever 071: 1969 -- Move over Little Al, here come George Thomas 072: 1962 -- Sixteen Bases on Sixty-Four Balls...received by the Mets
  8. Howie yesterday vouched for Frankie's new leaf off the field, and I'm glad to hear it. If we believe in second chances and rehabilitation (in his case, anger management), then that's good news for him and anybody who comes into contact with him. I hope it sticks. He's pitched mostly well this season, as well as any high-priced, high-profile closer has pitched for the Mets over a three-month span in the past twenty years, probably. I've generally been in the Not Hate camp where he's concerned, probably owing to my lingering goodwill for him as an Angel from when I could ignore his day-to-day foibles. Yet if you could dump this contract, go for it. I'm almost surprised at how unattached I am to him as a Met in that regard. Wouldn't really bother me if he became an MFY at this stage of his career. He's been a Met, an All-Star Met his first year (hard to remember), but he came here as a mercenary. He can leave as a mercenary if need be. Bay, too.
  9. Yay, Cam gets to play on a real team! He's been a GCL Met for three seasons.

But you know theyre not going to do that. If they sign Reyes, that will be IT. If they sign Wright next year, that will be IT. And that leaves us with the same team were treading water with now, minus a few guys who are contributing, with two long-term big money deals added in. I refuse to have that kind of defeatism. Kind of an opposing viewpoint from a good friend whose writing (in e-mail form) I enjoy, so I asked him I could string his thoughts together into a post, and he said sure. His voice represents the nagging doubts deep inside my Met psyche. Don't Trade Reyes. Are you absolutely sure? Yes. Don't Trade Reyes. Are you sure that's the best thing? Absolutely. Don't Trade Reyes. Isn't it worth exploring every avenue? Um, well, yeah. But Don't Trade Reyes. But isn't he your most tradable commodity? And isn't he going to command a whole lot of money a cash-strapped organization isn't necessarily equipped to provide? And will the team be able to improve over the long haul if they make that commitment? Shut up! Don't Trade Reyes! If you say so...still, you might want to think about it. Quit nagging at me! Don't Trade Reyes! Fine. We won't. But are you sure...?
  11. Received an e-mail from mlb.com a little while ago with the following header: Manage a MLB Team on Facebook I wonder if Riggleman received it, too -- and if he unsubscribed immediately.
  12. HahnSolo wrote: I heard Riggleman on the FAN with Craig Carton this morning (good and surprising get for Carton, BTW), and it sounds like he was most irked by the fact that Rizzo got a 5-year extension after last season, and he got nada. I think Riggleman's on a damage control tour. He did Francesa after the Mets game last evening.
  13. Lance Johnson's September 1996 had the kind of finishing kick worthy of his nickname: 45 hits, including 10 doubles and 4 triples. If Reyes wants to catch the One Dog, he'd better be close to 200 by the dawn of September (if he's still here). John Olerud had 45 hits in August 1998. Jose had 40 in May 2011.
  14. METS ALL-TIME HIT LEADERS Through 6/23/2011 1. Ed Kranepool 1,418 2. JOSE REYES 1,226 3. Cleon Jones 1,188 4. DAVID WRIGHT 1,182
  15. Capuano 3.0 Reyes 2.5 Murphy 2.0 Beato 1.5 Rodriguez 1.0
  16. Jose takes advantage of dropped-foul hospitality with an RBI singe. /claw
  17. Meanwhile Caps makes like a wriggle man as he wriggles out of bases-loaded jam to keep it 2-0.
  18. Picturing Riggleman and Edwin Rodriguez bumping into each other. "Hey Edwin, I heard you resigned." "Yeah, I couldn't take the constant losing. What about you?" "I couldn't take the constant winning." "Go fuck yourself."
  19. Riggleman is one play-in game from 13 years ago removed from being Dave Bristol credentialswise, yet he's being hailed as Vince Lombardi industrywide.
  20. Riggleman apparently pissed about his contract situation. Midseason, team on a roll...selfish quitter would be my talk radio assessment.
