  1. I feel like I've been stared at by Jeff Francoeur all of 2011.

  3. Factoring in the literal gloom, the plunge in temperatures, the spitting rains, the caliber of opponent, the fact that I was there the night before to witness ninth-inning heartbreak and the length of the proceedings (plus the guy in the ATF cap and Army t-shirt who lectured the Mets for being a bunch of millionaires who are afraid of a little rain before he went off to ingest some alcohol, burn some tobacco and explode some firearms -- and another guy who explained loudly to all six of us in the Promenade that the Nationals would keep scoring because this way their agents would be able to get them more money), that may have been the worst Non-Collapse game i've ever been to. It was all I could do to not give Justin Turner six Schaefer points out of gratitude for ending it with a double play. But nice to see themetfairy and dgwphotography before it all went to hell.
  4. Last five; nine of their last ten.

  9. Mr. Softee entered Mets pop culture lore, sort of, a couple of weeks ago.
  10. Occasionally the Mets throw in a little interstitial music between innings -- specifically when there's some dead space between whatever was sponsored and whoever's batting next (lest there be a noiseless interval). Early last night, the intro to Bobby Womack's "Across 110th Street" wafted over the speakers. I could deduce no reason for it (if we discount my pet association with it, that the original Polo Grounds, in the 19th century) was located at 110th Street and Fifth Ave.) except somebody in the booth was having a good night. Tale of pushers, pimps, junkies -- and 16 blocks from Citi Field in the Queens version. [youtube:xhr9w7z3]qmc9tDky9B4[/youtube:xhr9w7z3]
  11. My boy is Sterling from Kingsport, and headed for Savannah. He talks to ESPN NY about growing up loving the Mets and now, like Mark Wahlberg in Rock Star, being one of them.
  12. Poppy Montgomery is Unforgettable as the star of the new CBS crime drama poses in the jersey of her favorite team Wednesday night. It's a show about a detective who remembers everything -- unlike Angel Pagan who forgets to get out of the picture, or so it seems.
  13. BEST EAST EVER Through 146 Games 1986 METS: 96-50 2011 Phils: 95-51 Congratulations to the Philadelphia Phillies on clinching their fifth consecutive playoff berth. Not really.

  17. "Kids -- we athletes don't say 'it gets better' or lend specific support to you if you're lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender, but our always inspiring vice president of marketing alluded to it at a press conference, so next time you're being bullied, remember: Dave Howard had a lawyer suggest it's not OK."

  19. Much appreciated, batmags. You limb-going won't send you for a fall, but there are some other seasons with highlights to come.
