It's hard when you lose to your crosstown rivals. Do you really want to be part of the team that gets swept by your crosstown rivals? --Joe Girardi, who would know, May 30, 2013
Three sweeps: Subway Series @ Citi Field; Subway Series @ MFYS III; 2013 Subway Series. Don't shortchange us. May 27-30. Let's not also shortchange ourselves of four glorious days in May.
MFYs pass a "Happy Walkoff" card around the clubhouse, sign their names and leave it on the chair in front of the locker of whoever got the big hit. Just like in an office.
The tickets are the same as Mets family members and priced the same as Mets family pays for tickets, a spokesman for the Amazins told the paper. Because of the variable pricing, ticket prices are different. Its the same as Opening Day. Its not gouging. "It's not gouging" from the Mets, even if it's not, sounds like a politician denying charges of child-molestation with "No, I'm not a child molester." Just using the phrase is ill-advised. But yeah, up to 526 with ya's if ya don't like it.

But a brief salute to the career of Mariano Rivera feels like passing an emotional kidney stone. Biggio: Local boy who stopped by now and then. Ya got 3,000 hits? No kiddin'! Good for you, pal! Chipper: We sort of invented him. It became a thing after a decade. I'd dare say he felt like Cousin Larry. Plus he endless paid homage to Shea in a way ownership never did. Rivera: His entire purpose in our lives was to ensure we lost games we were losing. Technically all opponents try to do that but his very specific job description was about ruining our night. And he was forced into our direct line of sight by MLB's gimmickry (2000 WS aside). It's a classy thing to do to honor a retiring great on his way out, but this doesn't quite feel like that. But I'll take it over however much they're going to kiss The Captain's rings when his time comes.

Nothing feels more propagandistic than reporting that a baseball game was played in front of a crowd (or "an announced crowd") of 23,149 when there are clearly no more than half that figure in the park, no matter how many are off acquiring a refreshment or using the facilities. The bottom line may be what matters in reporting to the league office (singular) but part of the historical record is how many actually bore witness to a given game. Please add turnstile count to the list of things wished brought back.
