  1. Mo Vaughn (did not play for 2001 Angels due to injury but came to the Mets in the offseason of 2001-02)
  2. [youtube:cfkeovgr]ZetIsAGJmqk[/youtube:cfkeovgr] (seems appropriate here)

I hope the kiddies weren't home from school yet. Indeed. Imagine how many children would ask in horror, "Mommy, what's that goddamn Kyle Farnsworth still doing on the Mets?"
  4. Frayed Knot wrote: Chris Young (the tall, white pitcher, not the black OFer) A.k.a. the other Young meat.
  5. Lefty Specialist wrote: Who are they going to cast as Josh Thole? Has to be an actor who can crouch, then jump up and chase a ball to the backstop. Repeatedly. Lassie?
  6. My mind is programmed for no particular reason Shingo Takatsu retention more than it is quasi-technicality Daisuke Matsuzaka.
  7. Dice-K, who I thought would not be eligible, but read the fine print, I guess.

What a perfectly benign clue. Well here's another clue for you all, besides that the walrus was Paul. The last Met to this quiz made the cover of Sports Illustrated. As a Met? How would I know? Here's another hint. Our one-time SI cover boy fits the definition posted at the top of this thread, in that the last team he played for before coming to the Mets in-season were the eventual WS champs of his first Met season. But ---- this player -- this former SI cover boy -- belonged to another team in between his stints as a Met and that WS winning team. But he never played for that intermediate team. Did the man from Topps ever take his photo in the Sadecki Spot?

Probably eliminates Michael Jordan...

  12. Shingo Takatsu, 2005 White Sox. The guy with the "funk," per Willie Randolph.
  13. Tom Hall, 1975 Reds (for Mac Scarce, I believe).
  14. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Alex Trevino, 1990? Also, I have a feeling it was somebody from Atlanta in 1995, but I can't think of who it might be. Are you thinking of Kevin Lomon? We Rule V'd him from ATL but sold him back during '95.
  15. Not Al Jackson. Not lotsa guys, but Little Al was PTBNL in a deal in July of '67 from the Cards...but not named until after STL won it all.

Foli enjoyed a lot of "he was the missing piece" love from Howard Cosell that fall. Little mention was made of Frankie's speed.
  17. George Lopez grew up wanting to be "like Tommie Agee," according to the somewhat reliable Mets Twitter account.
  18. Tonight's announcing partner-at-large is Scott Graham, teaming with Howie. He's the NFL Films voice of record, following in the Philadelphia-borrowed tradition of John Facenda and Harry Kalas. The pipes on this guy! As smooth as Doug Flynn on the 4-6-3. But kind of distracting at the same time, like, "What's the NFL Films guy doing talking about Juan Lagares?"
  19. When in Vegas, bet on Black, because that's where he's starting the season.
  20. batmagadanleadoff wrote: G-Fafif wrote: Whither Brooklyn Burgers? And what of Keith's Grill, where Brooklyn Burgers were featured? G-Fafif wrote: Keith's featured Brooklyn Burgers, the former official burgers of Citi Field. Strange that his stand wouldn't be mentioned if it was converting to Pat's meat. Culinary intrigue. The answers await a mere Wright days away. I heard that the meat company that makes the Brooklyn Burger decided that Citi Field and other local arenas, including Barclay's Center were charging them too much for product placement and advertising, and so decided to market the Brooklyn Burger on their own without any local stadium tie ins. Thanks for the meaty answer. KG lives, according to the later release (mentioned in passing by Mets). Funny how for years the Mets touted BB and then they don't exist. I get why, but still feels Orwellian.
  21. My enthusiasm for Montreal to spotlight itself has been dimmed by a vision of "he hasn't been the same since playing on that turf" appearing in somebody's game story a few weeks down the road.
