Rubin has the new kid wearing No. 16, made famous by Rob Johnson, I suppose.
  2. Wilmer Flores has pulled into a four-way tie for 20th place among Met Citi Field sluggers by smacking his 5th home run there. He is joined at five by Justin Turner, Rod Barajas and Gary Sheffield.
  3. On April 29, 2014, the Mets were 15-11, four games over .500 for the last time...until they reached 7-3 last night, April 16. Next goal in sight: Five games above for the first time in three seasons.

  5. I started keeping track during 2010 because home team HRs had been so few and far between. The fences now seem so close upon first 2015 inspection that one might have to actually update the list frequently from here on out.
  6. Duda hit his 36th last night, pulling to within 10 of the Captain. Td'A's 7th puts him in a five-way tie for 12th with Granderson, Recker, Byrd and Valdespin.

  8. Daniel Murphy became the fourth Met to total at least 20 home runs at Citi Field on Tuesday night. Here is the updated Top 10. 1. Wright 46 2. Duda 35 3. Davis 30 4. Murphy 20 5. Pagan 15 6. Beltran 14 T7. Hairston 13 T7. Reyes 13 9. Bay 10 10. Francoeur 9 Jeff Francoeur's ninth-inning home run in a Phillies uniform is not included in the above total. Threatening Frenchy's surprisingly entrenched place in the Top 10 are Kirk Nieuwenhuis (8), Curtis Granderson (7), Anthony Recker (7) and Travis d'Arnaud (6).
  9. Anthony Recker became the 154th third baseman in New York Mets history Tuesday night and the 25th player to debut at third base for the Mets since David Wright (No. 129) essentially stuck a foot in the historically revolving door on July 21, 2004. Of course by sticking a foot in a revolving door, Wright had to go on the DL, creating rare dollops of hot corner playing time for others. Here are all of them, by date of position debut. 154. 16. mVTC7Vggd2M Broke, busted, disgusted Wilpons can't be trusted And Sandy wants to trade Dillon Gee David couldn't make it Decided he would take it And have himself a lapse mentally D'Arnaud and Cuddyer couldn't get no higher in A-T-L Friday night. That's not what they were aimin' at. May their aim be better Saturday night, 7:10, WPIX. Gee vs. Teheran. Tell all your mamas and papas to tune in to see the Mets deliver.

  20. In Mad Men’s second half of the seventh season premiere (S. 7 E. 8), April 6, 2015, Joan Harris is seen reading the May 1970 issue of McCall’s, with Tom and Nancy Seaver on the cover. Implicit in that development is Matt Weiner time-jumped from July 21, 1969, to the final week of April 1970, meaning my extensive collection of "Mets win the World Series and Don takes Sally to the ticker-tape parade" fan fiction is for naught.
  21. In the second episode of Weird Loners, or at least the parts I didn't fast-forward through in the search for Mets content, Eric the Mets fan, who is missing his late dad with whom he watched games, convinces hot neighbor Zara to watch a doubleheader with him. She's disturbed to learn there is a second game, though the between-games interregnum lasts about 90 seconds. Each is wearing a Met jersey of sorts. His is not regulation but hers is a SEAVER 41 blue pullover top that Tom might have worn in 1983, and, I have to say, it has never looked better.

  23. Blockbuster alert: The Atlanta Braves have traded Craig Kimbrel and Melvin Upton Jr. to the San Diego Padres for Matt Wisler, Carlos Quentin, Cameron Maybin and Jordan Paroubeck, reports Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports. As a part of the deal, the Braves will also receive the Padres' 41st pick in the 2015 draft. Kimbrel recorded 47 saves out of 51 opportunities while allowing just 11 earned runs in 2014. The 26-year-old also finished with a microscopic 1.61 ERA.
  24. Surprised MLB doesn't market today as Superfluous Exhibition Saturday, brought to you by whatever sponsor helps you get rid of whatever you don't need (also brought to you by an insurance company, helping you in case somebody you didn't see getting hurt gets hurt).
