  4. Benjamin Grimm wrote: It looks like this game is still a little low on votes. Participation seems to be tailing off just a little bit. I suppose that's to be expected; this usually happens whenever the Mets are playing poorly. ZING!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. What I think I like best about this annual ritual of Fmania is that Fman goes to the trouble of including each batter's statistics, just in case that's what we actually came for. That's what Suzyn Waldman said.
  6. Edie Falco threw out the first pitch today. Solid choice. Legit MLBS.
  7. Remember that night Johan Santana blanked the Reds and hit his only major league homer? That was July 6, 2010. It was the last time the Mets were 10 games over .500 -- until now, April 23, 2015.

  9. It's a five-way tie for 13th now, with Wilmer Flores having hit his seventh Citi Field home run.
  10. Last time the Mets were 9 games over .500: Goodbye July 7, 2010; hello April 22, 2015.

  12. During the dark ages, the latest juncture at which the Mets were over .500: 2009 -- 73 games; finished 22 under 2010 -- 147 games; finished 4 under 2011 -- 109 games; finished 8 under 2012 -- 93 games; finished 14 under 2013 -- 19 games; finished 14 under 2014 -- 31 games; finished 4 under 2010 is the full season that holds the dubious distinction for latest over .500 without finishing over .500.
  13. The last time the Mets were eight games above .500 was June 3, 2012, the culmination of No-Hitter Weekend at Citi Field. They were 31-23 then. They are 11-3 now. Next "most games over .500" season in sight: 2010.

  15. The #stumpgary question Tuesday night was name the five Mets to play third in 1986. He had little problem getting HoJo, Knight, Mitchell and gimmick answer Gary Carter. The stumper was Tim Teufel, which is ingrained into me because of the "79 Third Basemen" song that appears on An Amazin' Era. Teufel got into a game at third early in 1986 and when the VHS was introduced at a press luncheon I was lucky enough to attend on July 8, I was impressed that the songwriter (whose name I once knew but don't remember) worked Teuf in. Then, after Kid was pressed into hot corner duty on July 22, it was remarked soon after, "Now they'll have to revise the song." The song is here, via the good graces of YouTube and the diligent digging of dgwhitham following a social media discussion of the kit and kaboodle. Nz_X5Xkoya4&feature=youtu.be FYI, we're four third basemen away from doubling 79.
  16. Kevin Plawecki don(n)s 22 to(k)night as he attempts to nail down the World Series MVP hardware. Hansel Robles provides subliminal advertising for the Celebrating Jesse Orosco bobblehead just announced as coming to Citi Field on August 29 by wearing 47.

  19. "Travis d'Arnaud must be stopped," agreed Jeff Francoeur and Kirk Nieuwenhuis, and they engineered the power-hitting catcher's otherwise dispiriting trip to the DL the day after Travis belted the eighth Citi Field home run of his Met career, tying him with Kirk for eleventh place and positioning him to breathe down Francoeur's neck at No. 10. Unaffected by the conspiracy is Wilmer Flores, whose sixth Citi Field home run of his Met career boosted him into a four-way tie for 17th place alongside Chris Young, John Buck and Fernando Tatis.

  22. On July 13, 2012, the Mets came out of the All-Star break and lost to the Braves, Chipper Jones making Josh Edgin his final home run victim from our ranks. Their record dropped to 46-41, and it was the last time the Mets were ever five games over .500. Until tonight, April 17, 2015, as the first-place Mets ascended to 8-3.
