  1. One of the truly legendary Originals left us today. Choo Choo Coleman died today in Bamberg, S.C., a little shy of his 81st birthday. (His birthday is, according to his family by way of Mets PR, August 18, 1935, not whatever's listed on BB Ref.) This George Vescey profile from 2012 worth revisiting. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/24/sports/baseball/mets-choo-choo-coleman-50-years-later.html?_r=0

  3. Bus pass pinned to my shirt or jacket worked at the outset of first grade. Had my name and cross streets.
  4. I'm still trying to tell the Ramirii of 2012 apart.
  5. In the 1966 film Penelope, banker’s wife Penelope Elcott, played by Natalie Wood, asks police lieutenant Horatio Bixbee, played by Peter Falk, upon finding him in a pack of baseball cards (that Falk is carrying only for the bubble gum) and “Do I get to I keep Ron Swoboda?” as they part ways. 6. Best Gary Cohen pun of the game: when talking about Rene & TJ Rivera in the same game he said that CitiField had become Two Rivera Stadium It was a decent line here and here, too.
  7. The Mets are hot, hot...can they be hot a third consecutive time for the first time since Arizona was a territory? Only Buster Poindexter and Bartolo Colon know, as three in a row are on the table in the dry heat of Phoenix. Opposing the Bart of the desert is Met-killer (based on last week) Robbie Ray. Game time is probably some time that nobody else starts games. Those Diamondbacks sure are exotic.
  8. Jonathan Papelbon not an absolute pleasure to be around...who woulda thunk it?
  9. Ah, fuck. Let's win a second in a row anyway.

  12. Edgy MD wrote: Matz, no? Yes. Ynoa first since Greer to do it as a reliever. They and Doug Simons are it in that regard. BTW, Ynoa, who snapped a four-game Met losing streak, was born on the day the Mets snapped a three-game losing streak: May 26, 1993, four months before Kenny Greer came to the fore. Simons and Greer were born on days the Mets lost.

  16. W.B. Mason sponsors Sunday's giveaway. Steven Matz tries to take away the rubber game from Clayton Richard. Padre trivia: teammates call him Clay Dick...probably.

  18. Time for deGrom to Styx it to San Diego. Jarred Cosart goes for the Padres. Pride Night goeth before the concert. Show some, Mets.

  20. Ashie62 wrote: You could make the argument the Giants won the Beltran Wheeler trade. Beltran arrived, got hurt, didn't help them and left with no compensation by way of a draft pick. Wheeler gave the Mets a year and a half of pretty good pitching regardless of the injuries. Other than not having to deal with Zack's elbow, I don't see what the Giants won.

  25. Born on the second anniversary of the most recent Mets' world championship. He and Jon Niese can share a cake during the postseason. Will be Met third baseman No. 162, so we're covered with one for every game of the year.
