  1. Quickest top of the first of all-time, or so it seemed.
  2. Mets are wearing their blue road tops, which have been a rare sight this season.
  3. Your fancy fourth-place Philadelphia Phillies, for the last time this year: Hernandez 2B Paredes LF Herrera CF Franco 3B Howard 1B Rupp C Blanco SS Altherr RF Eickhoff P
  4. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Really? Yes, I suppose it would be foolhardy to not risk an injury to Cabrera's knees in a meaningless game. Top three in the lineup requested a couple of at-bats to stay in the groove.
  5. Mr. 1973, you can come in now. It’s time for you to meet your grandseason. His name is 2016. Do you see the resemblance? Yes, right there, it’s in his trajectory. Pick him up. Hold him. Have a gander at his late August. Normally for a bouncing baby playoff team, it would be much higher. But on 2016 here, it was set much lower. Uh-huh, just like on you. Meet the rightful heir here.
  6. Jay on 99 RBIs. Needs at least one AB.
  7. Love the Pretenders, but these are contenders. Now let's make Citizens Bank Park our playground.
  8. Zvon wrote: He can cry and that kinda stuff but he better not be offensively dramatic. Or dramatically offensive.
  9. d'Kong76 wrote: 1-13 with a homer late on Sunday with the Mets up 12-0 would be ok drama. Other than that... /cosign
  10. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: So, the Cardinals' maintenance issues help them maintain their proximity to our asses? Last night's Reds-Cards kerfuffle may have had an additional, infrastructural contributing factor. What a screwy system and even screwier circumstances.
  11. In his noncontiguous stay that dates to August 6, Ty is .333/.463/.433. Forty-one plate appearances, so a limited sample size, for sure, but as a potential 25th man, he strikes me as modestly potent lightning in a bottle. As a 27th man, he's gold.
  12. Ryan Howard's final series as an overpaid Phillie. Hope he doesn't get all dramatic over it.

Bump. Every time you think you've seen the one event that perfectly crystallizes the absolute absurdity and how perfectly unfit he is, and what a crying shame so many people are rallying behind, this absolute dipshit of a man and joke of a candidate, along comes another. He found a way to combine wild conspiracies, racism, sexism, xenophobia, unpleasant disposition and his utter stupidity into a single thing. But he did make it into the baseball thread that has the least to do with baseball, so there's that.

  16. His service is outlined here. Mr. Hennigan served in the Army from 1966-1968 with one tour in Vietnam. He received the Sharpshooter badge (rifle), Vietnam Service Ribbon w/Bronze Star, and several other decorations. After being honorably discharged from the Army, Mr. Hennigan had a career as a major league pitcher with the Cleveland Indians and the New York Mets. After leaving baseball, he joined the Texas DPS for five years, and the Shelby County Sheriff's Department. He then joined the Center Police Department, from which he retired in 2012, after 40 years in law enforcement.
  17. MFS62 wrote: That plop you heard last night was a large turd finally being eliminated from the AL Wild Card hunt. Thus lending credence to the phrase, "That turd don't hunt."
  18. Edgy MD wrote: I mostly like Ty Kelly because he always looks like he's this close to crying. Because he cares, dammit.
  19. MLB Network covered the hell out of the ground rule double that wasn't called a ground rule double, directing their Ballpark Cam to show the advertising signs over the LF wall are decidedly not in play and relaying Cardinal GM John Mozeliak's confirmation of same. Extraordinarily and unnecessarily muddled situation for the video age. This is the sort of knotty problem you'd expect to read about in Baseball Digest from before replay was an option. Bad job by everybody concerned...except Yadier Molina, natch.
  20. In another one of those not immediately reported or detected situations, it has been learned that Phil Hennigan, relief pitcher for the 1973 Mets, passed away on June 17 in Center, Texas.
  21. Centerfield wrote: OMG WILL YOU GUYS STOP. d'Kong76 wrote: Let's go Reds/Rockies is about all I can muster on the subject at the present time. Agreed, mostly...though, damn, I like Ty Kelly.
  22. [youtube:336eb50w]vPnLXjx5qOg[/youtube:336eb50w] Dedicated to versatile, switch-hitting, always hustling Ty Kelly.
  23. Former Met Bobby Abreu's former fiancee Alicia Machado is in the news, you might have noticed. They had quite a run, apparently.
  24. Mets'll be @PHI on 9/30, unless the continued FLA designation is for luck. BTW, FLA has been MIA for five seasons. Literally and figuratively.
  25. Anybody catch the dig at GKR's predecessor earlier? A clip from 2000 played, Ronnie referred to Mr. "CAHN-fidence," while Gary simply uttered, "Can of corn."
